Receiving My First Covid Shot and My Gluten Free Chicken Sandwich Fiasco

The vaccine went well. I went to Walmart for my appointment. Registering on line had been easy – except for maybe getting a convenient appointment time. But my appointment was set for lunch time and although longer than a normal lunch, it was a good cause that will protect my coworkers, so hopefully no one minded my long lunch. If so, then “bless their hearts”.

Chic Filet Fiasco

I went thru Chic Filet Drive thru, after my shot, which is quite popular in the noon o’clock hour. Determined as we all were to get our chicken, we all endured the line. I got a grilled chicken on a gluten free bun and it was horrible. I’m trying to be good, but that does not work for me, lol. I’ve been other places where the gluten free bun was good. I guess next time I’ll try the whole grain – you can ask for either one.

The gluten free bun came in a plastic wrap and the rest of the sandwich came in a flat bowl with a top. It made it very difficult to eat on the way. I had to put the sandwich together at the red light. It had hoards of lettuce just howling off of every side. (Yes I know “howling” is not the appropriate word but I want to use it as that is what it felt like). And was I supposed to ask for a sauce? It had NO dressing on it whatsoever. But rest assured the juice from the tomato and the liquid they cooked the spicy grilled chicken in, had no problem finding places on my clothing to rest as it dripped and dripped. I quickly grabbed napkins and put it under the sandwich and then tried my best not to eat the napkin itself while driving as the bun and the napkin likely tasted about the same. Luckily my tunic top covered the greasy stained pants I was wearing, as I stood up. Later I found a little packet of dressing sauce thrown into my fruit cup bag. Now why didn’t they put that in my sandwich bag where it belonged? Anyway, lessons learned in trying to eat better. Gluten free ain’t always good.

It’s a maze of trying to figure things out – and the hardest part of all is figuring out what foods work that taste good ON THE GO! Let me know your tricks please? What do you order in the drive thrus across America when you have to eat on the go?

I went back to work and got the hardest return done – it’s an all in one for Oregon that includes withholding, unemployment taxes, as well as two or three other taxes that Oregon has. So that is done. Today at work I’ll work on all the unemployment returns for various states. Next week I’ll have to work on Transport company unemployment returns.

Later at Home

Once home and no plans I was able to work on the house a bit. I did two loads of laundry, started the dishwasher, and ironed up a few things for next week, and reloaded my vitamins for next week. I also made an appointment to have my nails done after work today (Friday). I took some things down to the basement for storage, and I cleaned off all of my stuff from the kitchen table.

I also created a bag to go for when we go to Mom’s Saturday – sharpies, florescent stickers, her jewelry she left here, her mail which I forgot to give her when I drove off last weekend (can you tell we are all stressed?, lol).

It felt so good to have a couple of hours to GET SOMETHING DONE!

Tonight when I get home I have to get this shower gift wrapped that I’ve been trying to wrap for ages. I wish they had given an address so we could just ship it once to the Momma to be -but they forgot to give an address so I have to wrap it and reship it to the Momma to Be now that I have the address. I didn’t go to the shower. It was in a different city an hour away and we had Mom and was involved in the house buying. So hopefully I can get that gift wrapping done. We will be going to the Post Office tomorrow to send that and also to drop off my now filled “Thred Up” bag which I have clothes in it I’m no longer wearing. That’ll be too big items out of my way that I’ve been tripping over the last few weeks!

George and I watched Designated Survivor and then I crashed. Bed felt so good.

Middle of the Night Stomach Ache

I had a mild tummy ache in the afternoon yesterday and then a more persistent one in the overnight. I wondered if I was getting appendicitis. It was different than the diverticulitis feelings. It was very sharp. I couldn’t tell if it was ovaries or stomach. I figure it was from the shot. But the pain was persistent so I got up and found the acetaminophen bottle. Try opening that at 1:00 a.m. in the dark. I was trying not to turn the light on, but I could not align those notches in the dark. lol. I needed a bit of light so I fiddled around and found my phone and finally found the flashlight on there and then the blind could see, and probably so could the neighbors. Anyway, got the top off. I was afraid I’d be too awake to go back to sleep but I slept with no problem. I did not want to get up this morning though. I wondered if it was the shot that made me hurt like that. I have no idea!

Blood Pressure Update

So it’s still a bit high. The worst today was 154/99 and then the best was 144/89. I’ve been taking it in the morning which is after I’ve slept, but after my shower. And also before I take my BP meds. So they have worn off a bit by then I guess. I will take some readings in the afternoon. Maybe even take it to work and take a reading. But my plan is that after a week of monitoring it, if I don’t see a decrease, I’ll call the doc and let him know. The meds had been working so well for me. This year is not going to get any less stressful so I need to figure it out. I will monitor it through the 20th and make my call to the doc around the 21st, whatever day that is. If it starts coming down though I won’t call. It’s at least a plan. So I’m not going to worry over it, I’ll just follow my plan! I will continue to try to thwart the stress though. I thought I left all the stress when I left HR but apparently moving/house buying and the time it takes to build a house for Mom is equally as stressful as an HR job as the BP is going up again! Oh well! I’ll figure it out. I always do.

I need to start walking some and trying to exercise, but I have no idea when the time would be for that! I don’t want to give up blogging, but I may have to on some days. Or give up doing housework but that will make my blood pressure rise just seeing the house messed up. I cannot stand a messy house. It’s mess now as I’ve not had time to even sneeze if I wanted to.

Ok off to work now. Probably no post tomorrow as we’ll be heading to Mom’s.

Take care ya’ll.

Productive Monday but What Will Happen the Rest of the Week?

Good morning! It’s Tuesday and payroll day. But I’m popping in to say Hi really quick. It was good to get “Monday done”. It was a fairly easy day with little frustrations so you gotta love that kind of Monday.

For lunch I had the Lean Cuisine’s Coconut Chic Pea Curry. It just sounded good and had protein and the veggies. A bit high on the sodium side but not as bad as some. I had a side of carrots and Catalina French dressing, the taste of which has really been appealing lately. I have even dipped crackers in it on a desperate day when carrots were not in my mini fridge.

George had a special errand to run for us and so dinner was a bit later. I was able to get a lot of things ticked off my Monday list. Sending out a Birthday card to someone that turns 100 this week, folding laundry, checking the Christmas list to see what’s left, packing my bag for today, and unpacking yesterday’s bag, and removing my nail polish, opening mail, taking care of doggies, and eventually sitting down to work on the next iMovie.

I can see the light at the end of the tunnel. I’m almost through editing all the footage and doing voiceovers of the photos and am going to have to back some of the footage out b/c it’s too long. I always end up with more than I think I have. But I need to get on with this one. Why? So I can get on with the rest of them. lol I love doing them even if no one watches them. HA! At least some of you do. I appreciate that. I know in time it’ll grow, or not, according to God’s will.

Talked to Mom today and as of now I’m “it” for Thursday’s doc visit in Franklin for the eye appt. It could change but for now I have to plan as if I’m taking off Thursday. I’m toying with the idea of just working extra hours today, Wednesday, and Friday and then going in on Saturday to make up for it so I don’t have to miss my Dec 12th (one day of PTO I have left). If I make up the hours it shouldn’t be a problem. Even though I’m salaried, I’d be expected to take a PTO for being off unless I come in to get the work done.

Mom’s appt is late morning Thursday and in Franklin. Mom is in Columbia, work is in Nashville, and I’m in Mount Juliet. So nothing is easy as far as trying to get in any hours of work on Thursday. I’ll likely spend the night with Mom Wed night to make Thursday easier. It’s possible to get a couple of hours in Thursday – later in the day but only an hour or two, but we’ll have to see how long the appt is. I’ll likely work longer today, Wed, and Friday and go in Saturday some to keep from losing my PTO day I’ve been looking forward to in Dec. Of course I should take back some of those Saturday’s I worked before as a part of a 6 day week and earlier this year when the pandemic started as a comp day and claim those. I don’t want to lose any salary and hate to ask for the comp time, but no one minds when you work extra – they will let you do that in a heartbeat with no questions asked! But if I took the comp day it’d be frowned upon. Easy to give a day but not to get it back in return without putting myself thru hell over what everyone else thinks or says. I make it hard on myself and everyone definitely lets you because it’s to their advantage to do so. ::sigh:: Oh well. lol Anyway, I’ll figure it out. Honestly I don’t want to work Saturday either, lol! We were supposed to go to Lebanon to our little grocery store we like. We’ll just see how it works out. But I’ll meet my responsibilities to ALL parties as best as I can.

Sometimes 4 years does not seem so long to retirement. But weeks like now where I need to be there for Mom, and having a grandchild on the way, and not enough PTO days to go around to everyone, makes me really want it to hurry up. It will work out how it is supposed to is what George always says. I guess it will. I don’t know if I believe that or not. I’m still considering it. Because things definitely happen that were not supposed to! LOL

So when George got home, we had a Korean Taco dinner with egg rolls on the side. It was really good. We watched the 3rd show of the Queen. It is really good now as we are at the part where Diana enters the picture. Wanted to go into the 4th show of the season but it was almost bedtime.

Our temps have turned off cold 30’s at night whereas they had been in the 50’s or so. The days have been about in the 60’s or low 70’s. But last night when the sun went down it was chilly and guess who wanted to come in for a snooze. Our Little Bit, He knows were his little bed is.

So I’m going to wrap up early here and head on in so I can put in some extra time to make up for Thursday so I can try to get my work done.

And that gets ya’ll up to date. Unless I have something good to share or I’m just needing to spout off something, I’ll probably wait until later in the week to post. I’ll concentrate on life for a bit and come back and tell you about it, Lord Willing and the COVID doesn’t Rise. It’s closing in on all the circles around us. It’s everywhere now and seemingly uncontrollable. A lot of people we are in contact with now have been exposed it seems or have a family member with it, or has it themselves.

We had a scare with the thermometer yesterday. It starting giving over 100 readings on everyone. Everyone was feeling fine. But they swapped it out and we were below normal then. LOL. Kinda funny. Good thing we didn’t all go home. Maybe we should have with the virus so ever present everywhere. Anyway, we’ll see. Better go get going on payroll. Who knows what will happen. Drives a planner person like me crazy not knowing what my schedule is. I mean really, am I taking Mom to the Doc, or are we all getting COVID? It’s totally possible now. Because it’s arriving everywhere around us. It’s here, there, and everywhere now.

Ok, I’ve worked myself in a frizzy. But will pray the week turns out just right! Gotta go. I’ve already typed through the part where I can go in early. LOL

Eating Out During Covid, and Working on the next Vlog Video

Famous Dave’s, Almost Empty

We had a fine and dandy weekend. Never long enough. I didn’t get in as much housework as I intended. But I did get the fall clothes tubs up from the basement. I had my winter jammies, scarves, winter purses, and some sweatshirts down there. I also got rid of two sacks of clothes for donation. And everything organized. Laundry was done and ironing complete. But I could use another day to finish working on the house. I’d take a PTO day but I have to save them for flooring days and also for January.

We were able to go out to eat Saturday night at Famous Dave’s. We got the meal for two that comes on a Trash Can Lid.

My favorite was the chicken and the ribs. Brisket not bad but as far as tender and flavor – the first two get my vote. Hard to decide between the ribs and chicken because their chicken was just absolutely delish.

Here he is, Mr. George, about to dig in.

Famous Daves went over and above on the duties to protect employees and customers. First of all since we’ve been there, some paint and flooring have been added and it gives the place a brighter and cleaner look. But besides decor, they took our temp at the door. They set everyone apart. They asked that you wear your mask when entering and standing and. moving about. Despite the efforts there was hardly anyone there. Of course we ate earlier than the normal crowd but still at around 5 minimal people were entering the restaurant. It was so good and it was a fast meal! The order came quick.

And George wanted to settle a tip situation at Hermitage Steak House. They had not put the tip through. So George took them cash to cover it. The manager was so nice. While there Saturday to settle up (before we went to Famous Dave’s) we booked Brunch for the next day. What???? We hardly ever do brunch out anywhere, but you know breakfast is one of my favorite meals! We usually eat our big meals at the end of the day, thus the almost impossible task of losing weight made that much harder. But we had a Noon meal. Again, hardly any folks there. But it was wonderful.

Of course, I’m there with no makeup on as I’m not wearing makeup under these dang masks. People will just have to be scared, not sorry. LOL

Since it was Brunch. I made it true to the word and got the salad bar with it. (They fix it from a check list).

Smoked Salmon Eggs Benedict

Oh my heaven do you know how wonderful this Eggs Benedict was with the smoked salmon?

I just love this place!

After that we went to Kroger and bought a few needs of things we ran out of or were making dishes with this week and then our dog food that we buy.

This was hilarious. Those don’t look like strawberries. And even funnier it’s on a tomato box.

George made some Rosemary Olive Oil yesterday and I worked on the next iMovie.

So I worked on this most all of yesterday because I wanted to! I’m happy to say that it is ALL complete except one part at the end – my OUTRO and then doing the thumbnail. So this will be up before the week is out Lord Willing.

I still have a LOT of little details that I wanted to do this weekend that remain “undone” so I’ll work this week after work trying to get those things done.

I’m feeling a little pinched on all sides as it is quarter end, we have plans for the next two weekends, it’s getting near time to start getting ready for the holidays, we still have the flooring issue to settle, pick out, and schedule. And I agreed for us to host that One Chip contest. Ahhhh! Anyway, it’ll all work out. I will get done what I can get done with the time I have and what doesn’t get done will sit there rot til I get to it, eh?

Well, ya’ll have a good week ahead. I’ll be trying to keep my head above the water! And here comes some cooler temps – at least I hear it is. I’ve not really had time to watch the weather or the news.

Take care!
