Sunrises and Rainbows, Moves and Changes, and Quarter End Crunches

We have had lots of beautiful sunrises and sunsets and rainbows. I’ll scatter the pics across today’s post. The camera doesn’t quite catch the beauty, especially in the window. I’ve used my photo editing on the Mac to try and correct the photo to what I actually saw. The iPhone camera seems to be deteriorating over time. Is that possible? It just doesn’t have the precision it used to, but soon I’ll be upgrading to the 13 – either Pro or Max – not sure which.

I hesitate to even blog today. Have mostly been working on quarter end and the next video while at home. Thank goodness at home, I’ve had less to do. It’s the calm that God is delighting us with before the storm of a busy season and moving again of Mom and getting her settled.

I only have two more returns to do today and both are bigger ones. The federal return for Transport, I stayed and worked on yesterday and have a draft copy ready to go. I will seek advisement from my boss on the COVID amounts and how that impacts it. I will let her look at it before sending it in to have it blessed before I do. I also have an STT return to do and pay the tax for – for Oregon. That takes about 1.5 to 2 hours and the computer (online) does not save your work for manual entry. So you have to have something to drink, have been to the bathroom, and a good stretch of time, and no interruptions because if times out – you are screwed and have to start all over. Can you tell I’ve been there done that?

I had a return yesterday that even though it had a save button, I didn’t know that the system had already timed me out. I had stopped to answer a question or phone call or something like that and went back to it. (This was doing the Oregon “all in one” return where I have to manually enter all the employees, their earnings, their withholdings, their hours worked). I entered everyone and it let me but when I went to save it – it would not do anything. I printed out the page before trying to save it (thank goodness) as I had looked up all that info from various reports. But I had timed out and it went back to the log in. (Insert eye roll emoji.) So putting it back at least when I entered it the 2nd time – I at least had a print out and didn’t have to look up the data from various sources again. Except it was in a different order (insert favorite eye roll emoji here). Then I was .52 cents off, lol lol. But I found it pretty quickly.

I wasn’t going to eat lunch out but this week I’ve not had any good frozen meals that looked appealing. I’ve eaten those for weeks now. And I don’t want McDonald’s which is the only fast food place really close without driving 10 to 15 minutes. So I went to Santa Fe and got fish tacos one day. It’s really close to work.

They were real corn tortilla’s. The fish was good and on my “list” of things to eat once a week at least. So it was all so good. And I was done in 45 minutes which was surprising.

I did the bad thing and went for fish and chicken dinner at Captain D’s yesterday. It was good to have the time away and my head out of the numbers and papers for a few minutes. It appeared that I would have time to get everything done and I’m on the last stretch and will barely make it.

We’ve had a lot of rainbows.

I’m sorry my iPhone camera is just not pulling through for me these days but hopefully it’s better than nothing. It was also a low light situation with the sun just coming up.

This was a great shot after work yesterday. There’s my car too.

A beautiful display of the storm squall as it passed through and also appeared to be dissipating. I’ve started taking the back roads. The interstates have been full of aggressive drivers lately, people just trying to run over you, pulling in front of you, tailing you, racing and threading in and out of traffic at high speeds. The trucks are going fast and often do not seem prepared to brake (some do and I give them credit), but the ones who don’t taint the outlook of having to drive with them around. Lately there have been people shot at on the interstate, pointing guns at people on the interstate, police chases, horrible wrecks shutting it down (of course, stupid drivers aggressive behavior catching up to them), fatalities, and you know, I want to live to see my grandchild grow up and be able to enjoy my retirement days. So I’ve decided to take backroads. It takes 10 to 15 minutes longer on some days but I just enjoy the ride now and go at safer speeds and usually the crazy people are on the interstate. Not always but usually as they are too impatient to take back roads. There are more lights and school zones. I just have a good audio book on and it gets me through. Or some good music. So my commutes are back up to 45 min long now instead of the 23 minutes on the interstate during virus times. But oh well. At least I’m safer. Not really sure what it will be like when I have to go to the new plant. All that remains to be seen and we’ll either readjust something or make some “difficult decisions”. A lot of our office employees live even further out than me and our offices will be moving south of town. I’m pretty worried about losing a lot of our office staff when the time comes. Some people already spend 45 to an hour getting there and will be looking at doubling their time. Change comes and it comes often and we have to be prepared. At least there are job openings everywhere now. Some even at home or anywhere you want to be as long as there is internet.

I love my job except for maybe a few weeks out of the year, this being one of them. It is not always a convenient job for being able to go see my family in Texas. Quarter end and holidays are always the best times for us personally to go but not the best time for me from a work standpoint. That has been tough. We wanted to go for Thanksgiving which is ideal personally and also for Katy but it puts too much stress on others that have to do my job when I’m gone. So we gave up that idea. Only 3 years to retirement. But we’ll have to see what this move brings and how long the drive is on the back roads because I don’t want to take the interstate. That is in an even rougher part of town.

We have enough going on right now though than to worry about the office job location change and commute. We’ll worry about that one later. Right now we are about to embark on moving Momma again.

Monday we see the house from the inside for the first time. And then a week from today is closing. We are all getting excited. We are not excited for the move itself. I worry about George but it will be easier and we can take our time this time. Mom will have to buy a lot of appliances. We’ll have to line shelves and all that. It’s going to take a bit to get it all settled enough for her to move in. But it’s about to happen.

I like to organize and decorate so will help her with that. I also like unpacking but it’s hard when it’s someone else’s stuff.

I’m also looking forward to having my big bed back, my closet back, my bathroom back and more space across the board. I’m looking forward to us eating while we watch a show and not at the table, so we have time to watch our shows again. George has to rush to the back to Mom’s room where his computer is to pay the bills and do things on line so he is usually doing that after dinner – either that or delaying dinner by doing it before. He often would get in there in the mornings but she is asleep so he can’t do it then. It’s been a reshuffle for sure on our routine but it’s been for a good cause and we knew it was only temporary. When I move back into my bedroom, I will have the bigger closet space and shelving and can get my fall clothes out and will have my shoe rack back instead of this two little baskets I’ve been using. Then I can put my office stuff back in the closet shelves and bring my extra office table back and my supplies and camera equipment can sit about again and I can get the office stuff out from the baskets under the bed. I have to stand on my head to get any thing out of them. So I’m glad Mom will have her own space and we can go back to what we are used to. And to our routines. I’m also going to be glad to have my recliner back. I’ve missed it!

So not only do we have to move Mom but we’ll be doing some internal moves in our own house as well getting things back to the way we like them. Even little things like having my robe hang in the bathroom instead of the bedroom and having my towel rack back. And not having to change the bathroom trash as often. I’ve had to change it every other day instead of the usual once a week. An easy task but that has been one Mom has completely “let me” do. I have to chuckle at that. lol

Anyway, I’m going for more coffee and need to head in to do this last day of Quarter End. I’ll probably be back on Sunday for an update. The last hoorah weekend before we start running around like chickens with our heads cut off again. I’ll work on the video tomorrow instead of blogging but will be back Sunday. I’m making good progress on video but likely be the following weekend before it’s up and live. Just a bit more editing and graphics and overlays and it’ll be time to upload.

Oh but let me leave you with this. This is the audio book I’m doing currently. It’s pretty good. It involved an RV trip is why I downloaded it. ha!

Have a great weekend! What you gonna do this weekend? I think we are gonna rest! Might go to the new Christmas shop though.

TENNFold Brewing, Donelson, TN / St. Jude Giveaway House, Mt. Juliet / Settling Mom in Our House

TEN Fold Brewery, Donelson, TN

Wow, this new brewery has been open for a year – opened as the Pandemic started. We have kept close in most of the year to our area, and this is about 25 minutes out from our house. We didn’t even realize it was here. But they survived and seemed to be going strong. We arrived yesterday at 11:05 just after they opened. Many breweries don’t open til afternoon. This one serves food though and not just appetizers so they were open for the lunch crowd.

We had run our morning errands, the first of which was taking back Mr. Honker of a Truck to Enterprise where we dropped her off and out of our way so George could come back and settle up this morning. A GRAND sigh of relief at dropping that thing off. Then we drove to a post office that was closed so had to drive to the main Donelson post office to mail a package off to our grandson, Little Roo. Maybe Kate will send us a pic of him getting it. Katy doesn’t know what it is and reads the blog some, so I’ll wait to mention what is in it.

A quick google revealed the new brewery. “Heck yeah” was the words of the day as we both looked forward to an “after move, Father’s Day, Brewery excursion”. It may have been early, but it was time! lol. George’s phrase “You can’t drink all day if you don’t start early”. For the most part he is only kidding because it’s a funny phrase he picked up somewhere. I say partly kidding because he likely had another while upon the riding lawn mower at end of day.

Oh my, the taste of their beer was SPOT ON! Nailed some excellent flavors. And a very interesting “hard to choose just six” flight menu.

TENNFold Brewery, Donelson, TN

We ordered a couple of appetizers. Honestly it was too many carbs with all the bread and beer too! But we ate it anyway. What was that promise of eating better next time? Oh well.

MUST DO Meatball Appetizer, TENNFold Brewery, Donelson, TN

The flavors of this sauce, the parmesan and the pesto was excellent. The bread was the freshest I’ve ever had and this makes me think their pizzas are going to be knock out good! We’ll have to come back for pizza and OH we WILL be back!

Darn, I should have taken some video, sometimes I totally forget about vlogging! It’ll show up one day in the vlogs but with animated photos!

St. Jude Dream Home Giveaway in Mount Juliet

So off we went to our next excursion which was the St. Jude Dreamhome Giveaway House. We bought a ticket for $100. It goes to the charity, but you get a chance to win the home and get a tour of the property, or win the new Ford Bronco or other prizes. We did this in 2019. It was fun. So with the PanDamnIt going away we did this again this year.

So, we did a very quick walk through. We liked the house at first impression and the newness of it, compared to what we have in our house. However, considering the space we have here, there is just NOT a lot of storage in this house. After coming away from it, and in looking at the pictures, it’s a little dark for my style and comes across very plain in the pics. On a bright and sunny day, very little light poured into the rooms. The addition of all the blackness, gives a dark and dreary tone to this house. I think one could make it pretty with the decorating and certainly add lots of lighting. The house looks very masculine to me. But a woman could take it and pretty it up and brighten it up for herself! ;-). I’m thinking white roses here! And lots of light decor and pillows!

Anyway, after that we did a pretty good grocery run, George with OUR buggy and me with Mom’s.

Then we got home and realized Mom had saved the wrong mattress. Somehow the mattresses got switched around and she had us keep the wrong one. Either she gave hers away or it’s out by the road for the city to pick up. We are not sure. But the mattress in the hall is the wrong one. And it’s still in the hall. George had moved about all he was moving yesterday, lol. I told him I didn’t want the thing in our way all week, but we’ll see. It probably will be. Anyway George said he asked Mom before he moved mattresses anywhere, which ones went where. I think they got moved around though and mixed up somehow. So she ended up with the one she didn’t want and the one she did want either was the one that was given away or at the road. So we told her we’d go pick out another if she just cannot stand my mattress here.

Anyway, hopefully things will settle soon. We have found most all of what is needed for now – charging cords, personal supplies, password books, and other items. Working things in a couple of boxes at a time. We had all the last minute packing items all in one section so it’s been pretty easy to find those things from the last load.

Mom had a point, for the next move – we’ll be doing it exactly backwards! Furniture first this time. No more big trucks though. This one is closer to us so we can do several moves and George won’t have to worry about driving a BIG HONKER. lol. Then someone in the room (George) said “can we not talk about moving for a while?” LOL LOL LOL.

And we had left over Chinese last night but we added egg rolls from the freezer section at Kroger and made those in the air fryer. Quite nice.

Overwhelming To Do List and New Agendas

Almost makes me hyperventilate when I think of what all I need to do and want to do, not only for me but for Mom. This is an adjustment for her in a big way as she has moved from her house and lost a lot of her independence, but it’s also a big adjustment for us too. I’m sure it’s both exciting and scary on both ends.

It’s a lot of responsibility that I take seriously. I’m also afraid of losing my independence too, like getting my solitude time, getting to do things I like to do, and not wanting to be needed every minute of the day.

I’m just being honest here. I’m so happy and joyous that Mom is here and we are going to and have already had some fun memories. It’s just an adjustment we all have to go through and it is nothing personal. It’s just life. But there is a certain element of joy at having more than one generation in the house. The conversation is livelier, the camaraderie is there, and the helping of one another out, and support is there. So it’s a good thing.

And I’m going to head out to go get payroll done. When this payroll is finished, it’ll be quarter end. So that means come Thursday I’ll be working on month end, quarter end report printing, and all that. I’m glad the move is over so I can concentrate on that.

I do however, have to make more pet grooming, find doctors, set up pedi and mani appts (gotta get that done), figure out some time to go shopping, get flooring for the whole house (Lord help us), hem my blue pants, do the family calendar so we all know what is going on, get Mom’s car washed and vacuumed, get mine washed and vacuumed, change purses, plan Mom’s birthday, plan/shop for George’s birthday, plan July 4, meal planning, summer bucket list before it’s gone, have some fun, work on iMovies, go back to church, clean my house from top to bottom (ok the bottom -basement – is too full of stuff so just the top), continue my photography/camera learning, and video improvements, watch my shows, plan some travel, read, and daydream about RVing and….and…and…and….

“You are Here”: Update on Mom’s House Build and Move

Monday morning brought the meeting on Zoom where Mom had to sign off on the plan review. A little glitch being that Mom could not get on zoom, but I don’t think she would have been able to see it anyway. I refused to do the meeting alone even though Mom said I could and the project manager asked me to. I demanded that we conference her in on audio and asked for the project manager’s patience and understanding. I didn’t want to be responsible if they left something out and I didn’t catch it. lol. I would never hear the end of it. I’ve also been in business too long not to cover my “assets” in anything in life. Just something life teaches ya I guess. Everyone always looking for someone to blame! So I made sure she was on the call. I mean this is a big deal signing off on a house being built the way you want it. I didn’t want to be the scapegoat if it all got screwed up!

It included changes she added during our Low Voltage and Design Studio meeting – in other words – extra outlets, media wall outlets, extra lighting, etc. I’m glad she was on it because there were a few things that they covered and had to let her know.

  1. We were not happy that due to a very slight grade on her property there will be a couple of stairs going down to get to the patio. Dismay and ::sigh:: – so much for completely flat and no stairs. The front will not have a grade and no stairs. But what can you do? She will be using the back more than the front but what can you do? It’s the land and the way it has to be built for some reason. So George will have to add a railing for her there too.
  2. They let her know where the A/C unit would be. It’s going to be far enough away from the patio that we hope it won’t be noisy while she sits on the patio. I think that will be ok.

Anyway they went over everything and so that meeting is done! We are really pleased overall with the Goodall Home process. It is very organized. I’m pleased to say that we are making our way through the stair steps and things will start to slow down on having to “be places” after the Pre-Drywall Meeting. That meeting will be in a few weeks. They will call us in a couple of weeks to set it up.

We have completed 1-6 steps here. We of course will do the Pre-Drywall Meeting in person. So I will have to take off work for that, go get Mom and bring her in.

They told us they will be breaking ground next week and starting on the house! That is awesome!

So once this Pre-Dry Wall meeting is done we will not have any more on site meetings til it’s built and then we will have several. And the final move in. BUT we will have weekly zoom calls or conference calls with the project manager. He informs us of what was completed that week and what would be completed the next week.

Also we will likely ride out there on our own some and view and take pics – but at least that we can do on evenings and weekends.

I’ll admit my tummy leaps every time they say “meeting” and “it has to be on a “Monday – Friday” during business hours. My head is spinning at the amount of time we are having to take off work. I saw in the beginning that any vacation trips would be out the window this year unless it is a weekend trip but where can you go for two days? lol. That’s stressful in itself. But it will be worth it to have the most disrupted year of our lives, to be able to get her up here. So worth it.

I’m very pleased that my work has been so incredibly nice to me over all this. They have let me off, let me make sudden trips, alter my hours a bit and so forth.

This morning I am going to sign off on the storage unit. I have to drive over to Lebanon – about 15 min away and sign the lease agreement. We are having to get two instead of the one big one. They chuckled when I asked to for the big one. They said they hardly ever have those. So it will be good to get that done. I took work home and did that last night since I’d be missing that this morning. And I’ll just eat lunch at my desk this afternoon. So I should hardly miss a beat of getting work done.

I got to sleep in this morning. George had to wake me up before he headed out so I didn’t sleep all day. I was unusually tired last night. And still tired this morning. I think it’s the shot. I remember getting tired after about a week of the 1st shot. I imagine I’ll do the same this week. Probably have not quite recouped from the illness brought on by the shot. No fever left but just have not bounced back and every now and then I have very sharp pains that roam still.

Upcoming Plans: Shopping at Target and a Pedi!

So GOOD things on the horizon though. I’m going to set that PEDI for tomorrow after work I think. Then Friday I have a fun visit planned for Target. Just imagine the pic below as their RED LOGO! I’m SO looking forward to it.

Photo by Engin Akyurt on Pexels.com

I’m going to walk though slowwwwwwwwly and look at EVERYTHING! George is going to wonder what happened to me!

I’m going to buy a couple of more towels so we have enough – mine are getting old anyway. Gonna buy tea glasses as most of our glasses are low ball, beer glasses, wine glasses, juice glasses, or fine crystal, etc. We usually sip wine with dinner but I need to have some tea glasses for Mom and I as we will be drinking a lot more tea. I need some small little baskets for the counter tops in the bathroom for Mom’s make up supplies, and routine products used for easy reach and low clutter.

I need face wipes, a family calendar for the den so we can all be on the same page. (I will still have my planner though as I have to have it with me at all times).

And Mom needs 3 huge clothes tubs for her off season clothes to bring here. The seasons will just be changing when her house is built but we’ll probably have to do some clothes swap out before she moves. Also if the house is delayed it all we go into cold weather. So we will keep her extra clothes on site in the tubs like we do some of mine. This house has nice closets but no walk in closets so off season clothes don’t fit.

So yeah, lots to look forward to as the days pass.

That is all I know right now. Work, getting this move done, Mom here, and then her house built, and the other move done. But we have come a long way. Amazed that her house is already under contract and that we have moved a lot and packed a lot already. So much more to go. Still praying for strength and stamina! 😉

Better go get ready to head out the door. Ya’ll have a splendid day and I’ll be back to say “hey” on Friday.

I have been, as you may know, working on videos on alternate blog days. I began going through my iPhone photos and deleting unnecessary photos and videos and the next step with it is to drag over any video footage or photos that will be used in upcoming videos to it’s “assigned iMovie folder”. I have to do Feb 27 through current date. Anything before Feb 27 I’ve already moved over. Yes, there is a process! lol I make it a habit to go ahead and move over any Canon video as it is shot so I don’t forget!

Anyway, better gooooo!
