Saturday Excursions and Progress on House Building, Health Challenge, and To Do Lists

Well Nadine’s in Hermitage is not very pretty, but we dropped Fancy off for her trim and headed over to this “Pizza Hut turned Diner” restaurant. They have an excellent breakfast. I suppose it is much better than IHOP or Waffle House, and we thoroughly enjoyed it.

We are vowing to go next door to the Butt Hutt for take out ribs one day. It’s on our bucket list.

We had a good little day out. George got to go to some yard sales and we went to Houston’s Meat Shop (local butcher store in Mount Juliet). We bought steaks for tonight. Mom stocked up on their biscuits which are homemade but frozen. We bought a few other things for the freezer for later. We manage to keep the freezer’s full in today’s pandemic and pandemic aftermath as these are weird times and there are rumors of food shortages and supply shortages with our economy scrambling. I guess most nations are going through the same? Here’s Mom going into Houston’s. She’s wearing her mask.

They also have a little market also. We love to go in here. We always go here when we want a steak or to stock up on chicken. We also stop when we are having company for breakfast for their biscuits. Makes it easy.

After stopping at the house and dropping off frozen goods (we live so close to here) we took Mom to see her house. We didn’t think the garage door was installed but it is. If. you look closely you can see it and the little handles. Look at the garage at the house next door, how it has those little handles at the bottom – well if you look close at Mom’s garage area at the top you can see the little handles. They have it installed it’s just up because they are working on it.

I hadn’t realized it was going to be Tudor style, I had pictured it with stone decor like the others. The outside color and materials were not something you could pick. But it looks nice. It’s certainly coming together. Mom was upset that her front door had window panes as she said she had asked for a solid door. I don’t remember. I remember them asking about the door knobs and maybe the type of design within the door itself but don’t remember any talk of windows being in it or not in it. I’m not sure if Mom and I assumed it was all door and no windows. In today’s world I’m surprised that it WOULD have a window. She’s looking at the contract and we can’t really tell from that. I think she may call about that on Monday. I knew there would be things to crop up that she would not be happy with and I’m sure there will be more. I guess she will have an option to change it afterward. At least I think so. I’m not sure if they consider that part of the outside or not. It may be. I also would not like to go to the door when the door bell rings and be subject to whoever is standing there. People could look in on you. I like to have the option of acting like I’m not home if a salesperson or someone else I don’t want to talk to comes to the door (mostly sales people, lol). So I get it. I’d be upset too. Only I probably wouldn’t have noticed til I got in there. Mom is worried someone will break the glass and twist the door knob. She can get blinds to go over it I guess but you think that they would just have a solid door and a peep hole. Oh well. I mean as far as that goes, there’s windows all around so they could break in to those too. What’s the difference? She wasn’t upset with the windows though.

But it was good to see progress. I wish we could have gone in. But they were working on it and the weeks are soaring by fast so we’ll be seeing it soon and hitting the ground running. It’s VERY exciting. I’m excited for Mom and I’m looking forward to helping her get set up. We’ll have a busy season of decorating and unpacking and setting it up to get her functional and then she can go through boxes one at a time for her 30 years of accumulation. Ain’t NOBODY got time for that, probably not even her. lol. We will help some and perhaps can get her a yard sale together by next spring or next fall depending on the time frames and how much time we have. The community has a yard sale twice a year and that will be great!

That is her patio there. I think they have to pour the concrete in the upcoming week. She gets an email or a phone call with what they did last week and what they are doing this next week. So this is all coming together. The walk through is Mon Nov 1 and the closing Friday Nov 5th.

Around 2 we picked Fancy up and then I offered to take Mom to get a hamburger. She immediately said yes. Now you know here I get my love of burgers huh? Fancy likes to get her own burger – she gets the meat but only part of the bun of a plain hamburger. She always used to get a burger after her trim. Both Mom and Fancy are happy. I did not get a burger. I had pop corn and that was all I needed until our dinner. George fixed us chicken baked in a sauce, acorn squash, and baked potatoes. I had been craving the baked potato. I only had a little butter on mine. It was all so good.

Knocking the To Do List Out of the Park!

I’m extremely happy with what all I’ve been able to do despite our day out yesterday. Don’t get me wrong, I enjoyed the day, was present and mindful and glad we did what we did. But when we were home, I was hitting the ground running. Laundry is done and folded. Sheets changed. Fancy’s blanket is changed out for her little bed. I vacuumed the house. I booked both hotels for our East TN and West NC mountains trip in December. And the big news….drum roll…. I FINISHED THE NEXT VIDEO! ;-). I begin to get cranky when 3 weeks is past and it’s not done. So it was a highlight on my to do list. It will be out soon. I’ve exported it and just have to go through the process of picking out the thumbnail and getting it set up. I’ll come back here and post when it’s out and will also post on social media but frankly it’s just hard to get seen on social media as they squash the links and videos for the most part to get rid of agendas if it doesn’t match the sites goals. I also talk about my vaccine in mine. So even YouTube may not allow this video. It’s mostly encouraging but I did get a fever from the 2nd one and I put that in there so if it’s taken down you’ll know why and you will then have witnessed first hand how our freedom of speech is slowly (more quickly these days though) being taken a way. Not wanting to get off on tangents!

Today’s goals are: getting that video up and posted, likely for a 6 p.m. release time, EST. I have to go the store today, cut George’s hair, do some on line Christmas shopping, make my Christmas lists/notebook where I keep up with everything.

So here’s the To Do List for this past week. I will reset it for the week to come and delete these but I had decided to leave all the check marks there until Sunday because it’s important to see we actually can make some progress, even when we are busy. But I’m so happy and glad to have worked hard and knocked a lot of it out of the park this week. Now THAT’s what I’m talking about!!!

KYD55 Challenge Progress

The challenge is going well. This set up of this, I can tell you, has just been amazing. Here’s what works:

  1. You are not only working toward a health/wellness goal, but also personal goals, and also helping others as well. It’s just all encompassing. (Five pillars of: nutrition, water, moving your body, service to others, reading for goals).
  2. The goals are attainable.
  3. As I’ve said before you can choose to make it what you wish, although they gave us guidelines, it’s exciting to see that you could take this structure and do all kinds of things with it. You could take the 5 pillars and make them different things. Or within those same 5 pillars you can make your own rules.
  4. I can see how the 55 days is to set a habit. These were small changes that I can see as being able to carry on continually. Some small changes that turn out to be big ones to set you off in the right direction.
  5. The limits I set for myself are working- like dessert once a week or two bites if I absolutely have to have it. This is huge! It’s worked. Now I did have “two big bites” on those mini Nothing but Bundt cakes – my “two big bites” there might have actually been 4 but you know what, there were three other nights that I said NO to dessert because it was not a part of my goals because I was setting new habits. And it was ok. I have frozen pineapple chunks if I absolutely have to have something. This is huge for me.
  6. The movements have been big. I just do 80 exercises throughout the day. Arm lifts, leg lifts, windmills, toe touches – all during the day so that I have 80 before bed. Do you know how easy this is? It works. I have been able to do a 20 min walk once per week. Maybe on another challenge for 55 days of needed change – I’ll work on adding it to two a week. This is huge also b/c you are slowly changing your habits to what you want it to look like instead of just setting goals you can’t attain and then get discouraged.

I’m just so happy with it. There have been a few days where I’ve been short on the water goals. I think I slow down when I see I’m doing good and then forget and then the day is gone. But for the most part I’m doing it and as long as I get in about 75 at least I’m good, but 94 is my goal. Flushing those kidneys and liver out.

I’ve also listened to three nutrition Podcasts – part of my bucket list goals and also part of my KYD55 goals. So I’m trying to work some Apple Cider Vinegar into my diet. The nutrition podcasts I listened to were really kinda leaning toward the KETO side of things. I’ve chosen to embrace Whole Foods as much as possible. I’m not totally giving up the “western diet” but for the most part trying to make better decisions toward eating healthier and real food. I like the word “embrace” that is powerful to me and it repeats itself in my head. I’m holding on, clinching to it, and that helps my psyche to know “this is the route I want to take”. It’s subtle changes in the diet, but when making my decisions – this is working. When I pick things up at the store, when I take things to work, when I pick things out in a restaurant. The only thing I’m not doing is making everyone around me eat like I do. If George fixes pizza or we go out for a burger – I’ll eat it. But I’m trying to make better decisions and will order the best options I can, remembering what I’m choosing to embrace as “my thing”.

After 9 days, my arms feel less fat, my chin feels less fat, my stomach is begging to flatten just a tad – I can feel some burning of fat taking place.

What’s not working

My legs have been very weak this week. My guess is that the new Vitamin D’s I’m taking are not getting through, not being absorbed. I looked and felt of them closely. It was a new brand I tried claiming to have more in them. But the shell was harder than most and I’m not sure that it was a natural shell or casing. So I’m going to have to order some of what I had been using. I can’t afford to not be able to walk and I’ve been having issues simply just getting up from a chair because my knees and legs are so week. It’s very scary. I’m almost to the point of being like Mom and she is 20 years older than me. So I must get this under control. I do think I damaged my knee doing pushups and so I had to give that up. The ISA shakes from the wellness company I use help with leg weakness and also the Vitamin D does when working. So I have to figure this out. This past week has been difficult for getting up out of a chair and also for climbing stairs. I’m only 59. This should not be happening. So I have to figure this out and quickly.

I’ve rallied on enough here. It’s been nice to blog on a day without restraint, without looking at the clock, and without hurry.

Hope you all are doing well and I’m gone on to eat breakfast and shower and try to get this video loaded and get George’s hair cut.

Are you all having a good weekend?

Air Tight Storage, Sunday’s Progress, To Do List for this Week, and Forgiveness Study

Yesterday and the weekend as a whole was productive. I really didn’t get to do much on my personal list though, just my chores and responsibilities.

Went to the store and on my list, I had planned to buy some containers. For what ever reason all of our Tupperware this year is in turmoil and nothing is matching. It all got out of sorts somehow. I don’t know what is happening. I’m not in the kitchen much. I just know that I have reorganized that darn cabinet 6 or 8 times and I’m about done with it. I am switching to glass and airtight stackables. Mom said she is giving us that for Christmas and I said no b/c I already have plans for that myself. And likely we shall have it before Christmas. I’m going to buy a few at the time. I started with 3 yesterday. I’m claiming these though! These are going to be my “work” fridge containers. I will pack them full of either fruit, carrots, celery or whatever, for the week. When empty I’ll bring it home and fill it again with something.

This is in an effort to change my “lifestyle” of eating. And I’m so excited about these containers at Publix to be able to reorganize my “style” as well as my “habits”.

You can write on the lids with an erasable marker I guess, but since it’s see through I don’t see a need.

I’ll be going back for some additional sizes for sure. But I may wait a while. I told Mom not to bother to get them b/c I know what I want and I have plans already. But excited to use the ones I bought yesterday. I have to have a habit now of filling my little 3 containers with healthy munchies for work. I also realize that lunch can look a bit different than what I’m used to it looking like. It doesn’t have to be a sandwich or a salad or soup or a meat and veggie lunch. It can be celery, carrots, nuts, a piece of fruit and a string cheese stick. lol I’m learning to develop a love for Whole Foods and that is my goal.

That said, I still bought the makings of a salad, some frozen lunches that were mainly “whole food” (chicken, shrimp, and veggies or rice….mainly just less pasta). I also bought turkey – less salt and preservatives – and a whole grain wrap. I bought some frozen spinach to throw in eggs on the weekend. It took a little bit of consideration and planning and mainly creating a meal plan for the week of sorts – so that I did not go to my normal “go to’s” on a whim. I also bought those imitation crab sticks (they are still fish) for my once a week fish habit as well as tuna fish) in case I don’t go to Logan’s and get their salmon. I don’t want to go every week. Matter of fact it’s not been as good lately.

I did the ironing and finished the laundry, including washing and folding George’s sheets and I put the other sheets on his bed, fresh for him. In my “service to others” I turned down his bed and put his pillow and Roger’s monkey there to give him a smile when he went to bed.

I also took Mom out to eat lunch. Well, she wanted to pay for it. We went and picked up Cracker Barrel and ate it in the car. We had salads. We were going to go see her house but a bad looking storm on the radar was headed our way. For the most part it missed us as far as the storm part but it rained quite a bit. The skies were starting to get blue so I asked Mom what she wanted to do and she agreed if it was going to be nasty or raining a lot it’d be hard to see the house anyway. I offered to drive her out today but she asked if we could eat breakfast out after dropping off Fancy for her trim on Saturday and us going then. So that’s what we’ll do.

I had a Bridal gift to wrap yesterday and did a little planning for this week by updating the to do list, checking the calendar, and updating the to do list for this week.

Last Week’s List:

This Week’s To Do List:

As you can see the video is a ways down the list. I was disappointed not to have time to work on it. I’ve been getting only an hour a week. I may have to slow down the blogging and insert an extra day in there for working on the video. I normally worked on the video Tues and Thurs mornings but I am losing 4 hours a month of video editing b/c I have to go in early on Tuesdays now to work to make up for the hours I’m missing once a month to go the eye doctor. It’s not a problem but it is a fact so I need to figure out where to plug those hours in. The only thing I can figure is less blogging. I may also have to start scheduling my editing time. I hate to do that though. It’ll inconvenience George or our time together. But I’ll figure it out. I’m just trying to go with the flow. But I think that is what bothers me the most is not getting time to do the thing I enjoy the most, besides blogging, and that is doing these videos and having time to spend learning the camera and improving the videos and learning new things.

I began my Forgiveness study and I thought this was very powerful about Joseph.

1 . Forgiveness is not denial.

2. We need to name the sin against us to forgive it.

3. We need to express our feelings about it.

4. Letting it go.

5. Don’t stay in the past (although sometimes the sin is still in the present).

6. Understanding that the debt will NEVER be paid.

It’s helpful when you think about Joseph who forgave His brothers. He had a calling from God to fulfill a purpose and the fact that he was mistreated sort of became a non-issue at that point. He chose not to belabor the issue. God took care of him and his needs regardless of how the brothers treated him. It would have only hurt Joseph if he had chosen to “not get over it” and move on with plans. It also would have hampered his plans that God had for him.

So hey! Day 1 on the forgiveness app is a winner!

Phone Wallpapers

Here’s some phone wall papers for you. I tried them out. I actually have the brown one on my home screen. Might use the coffee one later, although I should have changed the colors. These are some I downloaded from the Canva app. I love Canva. If you don’t have, you should. Lots of free stuff for any media you use. I have the premium version. It’s quicker than paint shop pro! And with premium I can make a graphic without the background. I wish I had more time to play and create graphics for the blog and the vlog, but even on the go with it on my phone, I seem to have minimal time. I’m usually having to check email and respond to messages, keep up a presence on Instagram. I forget about Facebook sometimes. I try to pop in once every couple of days. It’s amazing how I’m letting go of social media as a source of connection. I’d rather text with friends now and have a community on the blog and vlog. Trying to build the vlog but it’s just not there yet. lol

Ok I’ll be back on Wednesday for a midweek update. I’m going to try hard and get some of these things off my list. And make some headway. We have plans Wednesday night with friends that are moving to Florida and this is their last week. We just ate with them Saturday but we are going out one more time. We are going to miss them. And Thursday after work I have a bridal shower for a coworker.

And that is all I know today. I hope all of you are well and prospering and happy. What all do you have on your to do list this week?

Scotch Eggs, Bare Grocery Shelves, and Setting My KYD55 Self Improvement Plan

Sunday we ate in the Sun Room. The temps are moderating where we can eat out there in the evenings too. George fixed “Scotch Eggs”. They were so good.

I have mine broken up here on my plate so you can see inside. It’s boiled eggs coated in sausage and then air fried in the air fryer. It has several steps though. It’s not quite that simple. I think he had to add flour and corn meal and spices, etc.

There’s a mustard sauce that goes over the Scotch Eggs. They were so good.

The grocery shelves had some bare spots in the produce section. The sacks of potatoes and onions were dwindling. George said it could be the lack of help to stock it. It makes you feel so bad for these businesses and it’s just so weird that no one is working suddenly. Well some of us are keeping the world afloat. I’m not sure why people can feel like they don’t have to work. I guess they have enough support they don’t have to. There are signs everywhere with places begging for help. I have bagged my own groceries the last 3 times I’ve been there. I enjoy it. Good for them that I do, lol. I’m not very fast at it. I stand there trying to get the bags open, lol.

The eggs were skimpy too. And where there were any Kroger coupons on items – it was gone. I guess those not working are really having to coupon. lol. We were able to use a few coupons but not many. This is kinda scary.

The grocery clerks told George that turkeys would be harder to get this year. So when Mom and I were at Aldi, we bought a turkey breast and put in the freezer so we at least have that. We will keep watching though in the next few weeks for the Smoked Turkeys.

George and I fixed the Beef Bourguignon dish yesterday. Actually he fixed it. I gathered ingredients and filmed it. So expect a video at some point. Right now I’m in May 2021 with the videos. I was almost about to catch up and then fall happened, lol. I’m sure I’ll get behind again with all that will happen with Mom’s move, getting her settled, Thanksgiving, shopping, Christmas, and Texas, and then the New Year catch up and the New Year start up. Ahhhhhhhhh!

So the bread goes in first and you pour the beef bourguignon on top.

If you want to try the recipe, it’s in one of my old blogs below:

Getting Ready for the KYD55 Challenge: Reading, Eating More Nutritious Food, Moving More, and Drinking Water

Photo by Pineapple Supply Co. on Pexels.com

So, I have been working some yesterday on the upcoming KYD55, redefining that. I really had to push to get that done yesterday. I stayed in my bedroom and worked on it after dinner. Here’s the plan for this 55 day push with focus. I can keep doing 55 pushes as I need to I guess. It’s nice because you can set varying focuses as needed. So here’s mine.

First of all it’s important to set the goals and/or realize and remember what they are and here’s mine, not in any particular order:

  • Lose Weight
  • Feel Better
  • Be Healthier
  • More Energy
  • Stronger Muscles
  • Be Happy
  • Enjoy Family and Friends
  • Be there for Family and Friends
  • Stay Spiritually Connected
  • Enjoy Hobbies
  • Live Longer

Water intake per day:

94 ounces and I downloaded the WATER Reminder App. Not sure if I will use it but we’ll see.

Reading 5 pages of any of the Below.

First of all, I chose things based on my goal. I normally read 2 chapters of the Bible and feel lucky if I get to read anything else. But when picking your subjects, since the reason for doing this is improvement, then it needs to be something to help toward your goals. the Bible of course is one, and I chose to do a study on forgiveness as I have realized that I’ve not quite been able to let go of a few things. I can improve my heart in that area. I also want to learn more about my camera, vlogging, creating video, SEO and growing a blog and growing a YouTube channel. And I’m also wanting to learn more about eating nutritional diet so any encouragement there will be good. I’m including “watching a video” or “listening to a podcast” as a part of this reading section – it’s just information gathering for your brain anyway it comes to improve your life. And because being happy is one of my goals, I get to read fiction! I can do this! It’s only 5 pages! The Bible I’m counting as two. IF YOU were to do this program which would you choose? What would your reading material be?

Act of Service Each Day

Well, I’ve not constructed a list yet. But I think each day will present its opportunities. Most days I’m doing something for Mom but I will take the opportunity to be more mindful to do things for my family and friends and check in with them more. I will also be looking more intently at serving others when I’m out and looking for those needs instead of being out for my own agenda. If some seem insignificant, I will do a “set of three”. πŸ˜‰ You can never be too kind right?

Movement

Here is where I’m excited. Because I’ve set my goals up for success. It’s totally doable. Right now I basically am doing nothing, so any improvement is good.

  • Twenty minute walk (at once) – one time during the week. I have all week to do this!!!!
  • 80 Muscle Strengthening movements. I don’t know what to call this but it can be any of the following. I just have to do 80 a day. In sets of 20. Maybe I roll my neck 10 times around. Maybe I reach my arms to the sky 20 times. Maybe I do 20 side to side bends. Maybe I do 20 air punches forward. Maybe I do 20 windmills. Maybe I do 20 leg lifts. I can do 80 across the course of a day. Might do 10 sit ups.
  • I have to try to do a push up once a day. Just one. Just try. πŸ˜‰
  • Ten Deep Breaths per day in a row

Embracing – Nutrition / Eating Plan

I chose to go with the “embrace method” or all encompassing. Some are just eliminating one thing. But I need to embrace! Here’s my plan:

  • Less starch, flour based foods, sugar
  • More fruit, veggies, greens
  • More water of course
  • Less alcohol. No more than 1 a day if any.
  • More whole foods
  • Less processed foods

I need to have healthy food available, plan ahead, and plan meals.

My rules?

  1. Have something green every day
  2. Have fruit every day
  3. Dessert once per week
  4. If I just have to have something – only 2 bites
  5. Remember that “emotions” lie when we’re talking emotional eating!

So if you were going to tackle such a plan, what would you do? What are your goals of improvement? How would you tackle this? It’s something to think about.

Busy Week Ahead

Better go. Will be a busy week ahead. Here’s my To Do List. I’ll be back Wednesday for a mid week update.

Have a great week ya’ll!
