We Rescued our Forever Pup, Finally!

Well guess what! Meet Dexter! Our little beagle mix 10 week old puppy. He is Mr. Distinguished. So he is a laid back doggie. And he’s a bit not feeling well in a reaction to the meds they give them when they come in to the agency. So his last dose of that was this morning. He should rebound from there (I hope) and the vets are closed so we can’t get him in to see vet to schedule the rest of his shots and treatments until Tuesday at the earliest but some time this week.

I am shocked as I really wasn’t sure we’d see one to come home with. I immediately saw this one but someone else scooped him up before I did. When her husband told her to put him back that they already have enough pets, I scooped him up myself and I did not let him go until we left the store, except for sharing with George of course. I let him hold him til we could get the adoption papers signed which I had to do the application and contract on the phone.

As you can Tell George is a little choked up. After everything was signed tears started falling from my eyes and we started to walk away people were coming up to congratulate us and meet the dog. We both were just dripping with tears and so choked up we couldn’t speak. I just said “we recently lost our dogs and are so happy to have another”. We take our pets seriously. And they liven up our hearts and our lives so much. Finally we gathered composure enough to gather dog food, pet bed, pet bowls, and we had to get my car to the tire place for our appointment there. We didn’t get to get his name tag yet b/c we were in a hurry.

George had him in his car in his new bed in the floor board as mine was about to be dropped off. The first thing he did was upchuck. We thought it was just nerves. We got home and put him in the grass and he had horrible diarrhea. You would think he was having a colonoscopy tomorrow. We got him in the house and he drank a lot of water and immediately threw it up. Yikes. This was starting to scare me. But I looked up the meds that she said he was reacting from and sure enough it says side effects of vomiting and diarrhea. It’s a strong med but it gets rid of any parasite types of things. So anyway we’ll see what happens. He is sleeping very much like a sick dog right now. I was very disappointed in that. We have had a lot of sick dogs at the end of our previous dogs life, so I’m ready to be beyond sick doggies. So I hope he will be ok.

He drank water a few minutes ago and kept it down so hopefully the further away from the med dose, he will get better.

He is truly a little love button. Not sure who he will sleep with tonight, if anyone. We might need to let him sleep in his bed in a controlled room space for the first few nights til this subsides and we know his trends and personality more. That is my recommendation anyway.

He loves his bed that I picked out. He goes right to it and lays down. I bought him a teddy bear for comfort. He likes to sit our laps and will let you hold him and love on him and walk with him. He’s like a little baby. He likes tummy rubs and he likes you to rub behind his ears and under his chin.

One thing I liked about him was that he looked like a healthy dog. Irony when he began being sick as we pulled away from the Petsmart. We adopted through an agency called True Rescue I think. It all happened so fast. We didn’t have much time and others were wanting to adopt pets also. But I’m sure he will pep up soon as these meds wear off.

We are beyond excited.

So I have finished the next video last night and began the upload before going to bed. I got up this morning and it uploaded 2%, lol! My iMac when on sleep mode and it didn’t do anything else. I have shaken the mouse every few minutes and changed my screen saver to an hour for when we were gone. This is for the birds. As of now at 5 p.m. it is only 67%. So it’s a shame it takes a couple of days to upload or at least one day with constant monitoring. I think this will change as when I cancelled our cable with Comcast, I upgraded our internet to a business grade of internet. It’ll be almost twice as fast. I mean, why not, our bill went down tremendously. The new router comes in and we also have to take the old routers and boxes back. I’ll really know for sure when the bill comes in but we dropped our landline and the cable. We only have internet and it does come with a free streaming box and a free streaming section with some shows, but we are paying for the Live Hulu as it comes with the channels we need and live TV. So I’m a little nervous about how everything will work – like will we have a new remote? I guess we’ll see.

Anyway, expect a video to go live – on Monday morning at 7:00 a.m. Since I missed the Saturday window, most people are off Monday and it’ll be good release day. And I’ll have time for it to finish the upload today and can work on the thumbnail and schedule it tomorrow.

Expect lots of cuteness in the days coming, and pray for the little fellow to feel better so we can get to know him and him us.

Last night as the sun went down I spent some time with Little Bit.

It’s morning again. I am just now getting to finish the blog entry. Dexter has woken up – he slept with me – all night. I took him out around 4 as he stirred. But we went back to bed. I got up before he did. He finally awoke, rolled over and wanted a tummy rub. lol

So as the day went on yesterday he became more playful. He kept his food down and his poop was normal this morning and he did it on the pee pad. We are so thrilled. So the meds are wearing off and he’s a normal pup today. He’s wanting to play.

Our life will be a bit hectic this week as we add him to the routine. It feels good getting a night under the belt and seeing that he is a good sleeper in bed.

But I need to go and get ready for church. This morning the video is at 92%, lol. Get used to cute fur baby pictures. We are so happy God has answered our prayer and given us this pup who is already house trained and so smart. I hope he does well while we are gone. We have to keep him in the bathroom I think because he will scratch the doors and that will keep him confined from cords and things. He loves to chew still. But gosh we are over a big huge hurdle with him being house trained. Wow! How lucky we are. He seems to pick up things quickly too. He will get used to the new routine. Once we get him settled and with his shots etc, we will get another dog to keep him company. He will have to be neutered in July. So we’ll see what happens. But yay! We have our pup!

What it’s Like to Order Hello Fresh Meals | Jif Peanut Butter Recall | Weekly Update

Ok, so the Hello Fresh came in! I know some of you were interested in what this was like. We ordered three meals a week for 2 people. I think it’s reasonably priced. I loved it! So George could have used some seconds and we could up the meal number if we wanted but I think we’ll just add a side and it will hopefully it will be enough for him. He said he would try to get by though.

It was wrapped well and with two large ice packs that we can use again and again.

The recipe cards are so easy and they are huge. You can save them and make the meal again on your own if you wish. Our first meal was a chili pork cabbage dish. It was a sweet and sour kind of dish and was atop rice. It was very good. I think I’ll be learning how to cook better with this.

The best part was that all your ingredients, just what you need, was right there. There are some items though that you need to have on hand and when you go in to your app or on-line account, you can see what items you need to have. Usually it’s things you would already have like sugar or vegetable oil, salt, pepper, etc. We really enjoyed our meal. And most meals are 30 to 45 min. It was a quick “come together” and it was fun!

The meat was packed right next to the ice packs and the ingredients for each meal were packed in a brown bag and labeled, so you don’t have to separate or figure out what goes with what meal.

I snapped a pic as I emptied out our meal for the evening.

Some Things to Remember About Hello Fresh

  • If you know someone with it, ask them for a code to get a discount on your first box.
  • Even after you start, you get rewards down the line here and there.
  • You can increase your meals if you want seconds or are having company
  • If you are busy or gone you can halt your meal a week or two – up to several weeks at a time if needed. (We stopped ours for next week as we have company coming to town. If they don’t come we’ll just eat out of the freezer.)
  • You can add on to your meals – like salad or deserts
  • You can change the style of eating if you want a lower fat version, vegetarian version or pescatarian version. I believe you can change it for each order.
  • Why waste food by buying a whole thing of cabbage or a whole thing of scallions if you only use a portion for one meal. Less waste and it’s all gathered together and ready to go.
  • A great option for busy people (or lazy or let’s say otherwise focused folks, lol, who don’t want to have to worry what to throw together for dinner)
  • There are other products you can add in like oatmeal cups, granola bars, chocolate, and a few breakfast and lunch options. I threw in some things on the next order (week after our company comes – if they do) just to keep from having to go to the store.
  • Your length of time in a grocery store will diminish. You’ll still have to go to the store periodically (or order it delivered) but probably pop in for your fresh produce – apples and berries and such for other meals, but your recipe search and ingredients list will diminish along with the boring repeats you end up cooking every week. (I take Mom grocery shopping and so I often don’t have time anymore to study and think and search for my own items and study labels and take my time, so this is going to help us.)
  • The more meals you choose for each week, the lower price per meal is. We opted for three as it seemed a better price and give us almost half of our meals for the week. The other half of the week we’ll still get to be normal cooks being creative and eating from our freezer.
  • Keep in mind what you normally spend at the grocery for your meals and you will see the price is fairly reasonable in comparison.
  • I use Target and Amazon for offsetting the household items and eliminating those from the grocery list. Keeping my store runs even quicker.
  • Get ready to enjoy cooking. 😉
  • You can download their app!
  • You can go in and modify and change, or suspend your order for the upcoming weeks
  • You can cancel at any time.

That is all I can think of for now. I’m just thrilled over it honestly. And the menus change each week. And you can peek weeks ahead and modify several weeks at once. I love it! This is NOT a paid advertisement. It’s just me sharing and enjoying it.

Peanut Butter Recall

Well darn it, after talking about not having to go to the store again….there’s a peanut butter recall. I had just bought mine and eaten a 1/4 of it. The product code is on the back where the date is. Go to the JIF site. I’ve attached it here —> JIF RECALL INFO. If you need to get a coupon for another, they will send you a free one. You can file your “quick” claim here, but you have to provide the product code to prove along with your name and address. Both Mom and I had bad ones.

JIF CLAIM FORM. <——Here’s the online claim form. It is truly a quick process. I didn’t get sick or anything with mine. I started not to throw it away but I went ahead just in case salmonella appeared at the bottom, lol.

So Monday was Mom’s eye injection appointment, the one I go in early for on Tuesday’s every week to make the time up so I don’t have to use PTO time. That seems to work out well. I got to work and had to rush to get everything done because I had been off on Thursday and Friday for my colonoscopy. So it took a while to get it all under control and everything ready for Tuesday. I was prepared to work a bit over until about 6 p.m because I was really behind in non-payroll related duties but George called and said that he could not start his car. So at some point in the 4 p.m. hour I had to leave and go to Gordonsville, TN and get him. My journey on this day was this:

From Mount Juliet to Lebanon to get Mom, to Hendersonville for eye appt, to Lebanon to drop Mom back off, to Antioch to work, to Gordonsville to get George, to Mount Juliet to open the Hello Fresh Box and cook dinner while George went to buy a car battery.

Search for a Fur Baby

I was notified that Monkey was still available and they checked our references on Monday and I’ve not heard anything yesterday. ::sigh:: I emailed and thanked them for checking our references and considering us for Monkey and asked what the timeline might be for our meeting her. Maybe I’ll get a response today. It was late in the day when I sent the email. Monkey had several applicants. I’ve prayed for her. This way of trying to get a fur baby is breaking my heart each time. I want to do the right thing to adopt one from these shelters, but it is so hard to get through the system. I feel like an applicant looking for a job, or trying to adopt a child. I know it’s an important system but I feel like a number and it’s impersonal and there is not much control and we are at their mercy with not much choice. So I don’t know. I’m starting to question the routes we are taking to try and find our forever pet. I have a family member that circumvented all this –but paid a large sum– for a puppy. I never dreamed it would be this difficult or that my heart would break over and over. I’ve been told no because we work, no because we don’t have a fence. Everyone is shocked at our experience with this so far. I just thought if you wanted a dog you went and got one. I have asked God numerous times. I know He is in control but of all the things I get sentimental about – my fur babies are up there on the charts. I miss ours. We’ve always had one for the last 20 years or so and I miss having them. Who knows why God says no or allows our hearts to break over and over. I’m sure He has a reason.

So last I came back from Antioch to home in Mount Juliet and George wanted to go get his car so we headed out to Gordonsville. Then we ate Greek out at a new place in town. It was wonderful and also they “deliver”! It was really good. Sometime we are going to order the meal for 4 and eat for 2 to 3 days, lol.

Also here is an iPhone wallpaper if you want to save it for your own. I made it for a “pool background” for my iPhone backdrop. Also you can’t really notice the “seams” when it’s underneath all your apps. Just thought it would be fun for summer. I make these on Canva.

Puzzle. Did I show my puzzle the other day? If I did sorry. Here it is again. I made a lot of progress while taking it easy with the Colonoscopy prep and recovery. This is the Christmas puzzle I wanted to work at the end of the year last year. Yes, my whole life is behind it seems. But this has been fun and when it’s over I will set out another to work.

Exercise program.

Got up and did a 13 minute program of lite cardio this morning. Yay! So I’m working into it. And I still had time to do this blog! Woooooo Hooooo!

I’ll be back on Friday with updates. I’ll share the YouTube lady I’m using for free exercising and also will tell you some Alexa tricks I set up this week that are amusing. I have these written on an index card so I won’t forget. I’m out of time and need to head to work. A lot of extra things to do this week to make up for last week and also it’s “month end” which means I pay all the states that we pay payroll withholding taxes for monthly.

I am curious if you have ever tried Hello Fresh or any other meal prep delivery service? Do you think you would like something like this? Anyway, I’m over and out. Ya’ll have a good rest of the week. We are sliding into the weekend from here. And guess what! We don’t have any plans and want to keep it that way. It’s been many weekends ago since we have not had plans. So shhhhh don’t tell anyone!

My Inexpensive Nighttime / Bedside Routine

Bedtime is something I look forward to every night now. Once dreaded as a child, the peace and rest, and self-care threaded into the night time routine has now become something I depend upon and enjoy. I notice that my picture above has something missing from my bedside table and that is my iPhone. And it does not include the bathroom routine of teeth brushing and face washing of course. Let’s go back in time and see.

I do not usually spend a LOT of money on make up or cosmetics. But I have bought a couple of regimens that were expensive because they were MLM – multi level marketing, but they worked really well on my face. I just refused to continue paying those prices and sought the same ingredients in other products as much as possible. More on that in a minute. But I say that about the expense, because you will see here just how basic my cleaning routine is.

Cleansing Towelettes. First of all, these cleansing towelettes that Target has have been wonderful for my face. I no longer hang my head in the sink basin and splash my face and rinse with soap and then water again. No longer is water going everywhere, all over the counters, down my elbows, lol. I had always washed my face the old fashioned way until I went on an overnighter to Oregon and they had little packets of face wipes. They were another brand, but I fell in love with them. I have bought many different types when I see them on sale, but I’m always going back to these because they are just the right width and do not seem to lose their moisture, they are gentle on my face and they remove the oil and make up, are not oily, leave no residue, and do not seem to strip my natural oils. I use one or two a day depending on how much make up is on my face. I can even get close to my eyes with them. This is my favorite night time product!

Of course there is the toothpaste. I love Aquafresh Extreme clean because I like the aftertaste and freshness it leaves and getting the toothpaste out toward the end is easy. I keep some type of sensitivity toothpaste available when I begin having any sensitivity with cold against my teeth as this helps with that tremendously. I’ll use for a couple of nights and then go back to the other.

I have absolutely loved the Publix Eye Makeup Remover. I noticed this had been on the sale bin. And so I’m wondering if they even have it any more. I absolutely love how it is NOT oily. The Clinique one that I am using next and have already tried it is oily. I’ll use it but I’ll dread it, lol. I’m going to find a non-oily one when that is gone.

I have a few necessary items that I have added to my nightly bedtime routine over the years as I’ve gotten older. Live and learn lessons there. That includes water, probiotics, Isagenix IsaFlush, and Isagenix Sleep Support. These are the two Isagenix products I am having a hard time giving up or switching over to a non-MLM brand. I have found a sleep support alternative on Amazon to try. I also notice that Isagenix products are on Amazon also, surprisingly. Not at the customer pricing with Isagenix but by the time you consider the shipping fee, Amazon might be the way to go as long as the product is not expired. I just downgraded my Isagenix site to preferred customer to avoid annual membership fee (rolling eyes here) and so my discount decreased. I had stopped the auto ship and was surprised by the membership fee. Geez. So the fee – it is supposed to be returned. I called yesterday and made them reverse the charge which is to happen in the next 3 to 14 days. I am keeping Isagenix open though as an option because these two products have worked so well. They really are not that expensive either until you start adding shipping on it.

CeraVe Night Cream. This has been the best night cream for me. It truly is restorative to the skin’s surface. I don’t know about what is in and what is not good about night creams. I just know that this had some ingredients in it that one of the MLM (expensive regimens) had so I tried it. It’s on Amazon but my first one came from Walmart. I am laughing remembering how George and I were shuffling through all the night creams looking for the same ingredients. And he found this one. I really don’t even know which ingredient it was of ALL the ingredients in this cream that was the deciding factor, but this one is it. I can tell a difference and it makes my skin soft. And seems to regulate it so it’s not as oily or dry. I also try to use a mask every now and then, but I’ll admit I’m not too good at taking the time to do that. The down side is that– it IS, of course, on your face when you lay down and I hate putting my face against the pillow with it on- but I’ve gotten used to that now so it’s only a second. It doesn’t get all over the place, it mainly just stays on me. You can’t even tell on the pillow. And it doesn’t get in my hair.

Isagenix IsaFlush. This supports digestive regularity. It’s very gentle with natural ingredients so I have felt comfortable taking it every night. It’s mainly magnesium as the active ingredient. But the propriety blend along with peppermint, hyssop, and other ingredients have kept me coming back to this. I suppose I will try to find a lesser expensive magnesium (meaning free shipping on Amazon) and see how that does. I am convinced this also helps me with leg cramps but nothing is proven, lol. Isagenix does not cure any disease or illness. I usually don’t even mention their name as since we have lost our freedom of speech in the last year, they offered to close my account for me if I even mentioned their name in the same sentence with….you know….that thing we’ve dealt with for two years that made everyone wear masks. However, is wrong for me to put in writing I think it has helped me? Probably, the way the world works today.

Probiotics. Somewhere I read that this works best at night. So I began taking it at night. Faithfully. This one is my favorite as it includes cranberry. But I alternate between 2 to 3 brands as I have discovered it’s best to switch up your probiotics a bit. I didn’t just close my eyes and pick one. You have to do some research on gut health, based on your own health issues, and then choose the probiotics that you need for that particular issue. I went for gut health and digestion and anything that will help prevent diverticulitis and constipation. Your needs may be different. But I buy the probiotics that puts what I need for my particular body to get the desired “outcome”. lol

Isagenix Sleep Spray. This is mainly melatonin with tart cherry juice, lemon balm, chamomile and a few other ingredients. I do two sprays a night. They recommend three. This lasts me a while, but it gives me a little something extra that helps lend to a good solid sleep. It’s under the recommended daily allowance. I can get melatonin spray on Amazon and will try that next to see if I like it – if it is less expensive. Again, it’s the shipping on Isagenix that sends me over the edge when I’m buying just one or two products. So I’m having a hard time letting go of these last few products but likely I will find substitutions as prices are only going up and it’s just outside of what I’m willing to pay with shipping.

Water. I keep a glass of water at the bedside and many nights I’ve drank the entire glass, if not I try to finish it off as I head toward the coffee pot, taking the glass back into the kitchen. Water is some of the best medicine ever! Just keep drinking it. We need it to filter out so much and we just don’t get enough intake. Buy a big bottle and keep filling it. Keep sipping. Add fruit if you need.

My phone. My phone plays an important part at bedtime. I have my sleep schedule programmed in and when I have the “bed time” set, it does not allow texts or phone calls. I did go in and fix it where Katy or Mom and a few close friends/neighbors can text or call though in case of emergency. At 8:30 bedtime routine is set – no more phone distractions unless I choose it. I also have my phone set to where it dims as bedtime nears, and I turn everything I can into dark mode as the sun goes down. I try not to look at my phone much but I admit I sometimes do look at weather, to see if Katy posted on Instagram, and to answer any blog messages – which I do all day as it comes in as an alert like a text message – so I just reply on the fly.

Thanking God and Being Grateful through Prayer. And I love falling back onto the pillow and heading into a good night’s sleep. It never takes me long to fall asleep. But I try to thank the Lord for all He provided for me during the day, for His protection and His presence. I ask Him to watch over my family and me during the night.

Weekly Update

  • Katy and Cody and Little Roo have had the flu —I’m not sure how many times one family can get the flu, stomach bug, and other illnesses in one winter season, but my gosh they have been through it this year.
  • Then there is the scare that we had rented a tree house in Hot Springs next week. It wasn’t – it was a house but some emails made us wonder for a few minutes. lol
  • My flower vase is missing from work – the ones the Valentine flowers were in. I won’t say someone stole it as that sounds mean and accusatory to say, but it was there one day and gone the next and hasn’t been seen since. So you tell me. When reporting it I’ve mainly been asked “why would someone want your vase?”. Like someone asking a kid, “are you sure, something is not right about that?”. You tell me. I kinda got the feeling they didn’t want to believe me. All I know is it is no longer there. I haven’t missed anything else in the office other than a few packs of nuts. That I have noticed anyway. It was a vase I had since my twenties. You just feel so violated when something like this happens. I was going to bring more flowers in for spring, but nehhhh, I’m not in the mood now. We shall stare at the empty space for a long time. I told God that whatever went afoul He knows and saw it and can take revenge if needed. It is so strange. Was it made of crystal? I think it was given to me as a wedding gift. I hope it wasn’t THAT valuable. It was thick and heavy. It was my favorite of all my vases, mainly because of its size so I will miss it, but at least it’s not my car right? So…whatever.

You just can’t have anything nice anymore apparently.

And that is all I have for today. It’s just all work, very little play. I went to work early – maybe by 6 or 6:30 – don’t even remember what time it was. I left work after 5. So about an 11 hour work day with a total of 1.5 hour commute (45 each way). I did have an hour to goof off since George cooked dinner.

We watched Good Girls – season 4 I think it is. It’s back on Netflix. Then bed.

So not much of anything exciting going on. I think Mom and I will get Pedi’s Wednesday. And Fancy trim and furniture shopping for Mom is on Saturday.

So off to do payroll today. I can feel the dark clouds creeping in to my soul as the skies are grey again, temps are cooler, and I become more withdrawn. Spring will break soon and hopefully my spirit will liven again. Til then I tried to entertain you will silly things like bedtime routines – which aren’t really that silly but makes for a better solution than whining about needing time to do things. Right? 😉

Have a good one today. Dig deep within to find the JOY. Some days are harder than others.
