Sunrises and Rainbows, Moves and Changes, and Quarter End Crunches

We have had lots of beautiful sunrises and sunsets and rainbows. I’ll scatter the pics across today’s post. The camera doesn’t quite catch the beauty, especially in the window. I’ve used my photo editing on the Mac to try and correct the photo to what I actually saw. The iPhone camera seems to be deteriorating over time. Is that possible? It just doesn’t have the precision it used to, but soon I’ll be upgrading to the 13 – either Pro or Max – not sure which.

I hesitate to even blog today. Have mostly been working on quarter end and the next video while at home. Thank goodness at home, I’ve had less to do. It’s the calm that God is delighting us with before the storm of a busy season and moving again of Mom and getting her settled.

I only have two more returns to do today and both are bigger ones. The federal return for Transport, I stayed and worked on yesterday and have a draft copy ready to go. I will seek advisement from my boss on the COVID amounts and how that impacts it. I will let her look at it before sending it in to have it blessed before I do. I also have an STT return to do and pay the tax for – for Oregon. That takes about 1.5 to 2 hours and the computer (online) does not save your work for manual entry. So you have to have something to drink, have been to the bathroom, and a good stretch of time, and no interruptions because if times out – you are screwed and have to start all over. Can you tell I’ve been there done that?

I had a return yesterday that even though it had a save button, I didn’t know that the system had already timed me out. I had stopped to answer a question or phone call or something like that and went back to it. (This was doing the Oregon “all in one” return where I have to manually enter all the employees, their earnings, their withholdings, their hours worked). I entered everyone and it let me but when I went to save it – it would not do anything. I printed out the page before trying to save it (thank goodness) as I had looked up all that info from various reports. But I had timed out and it went back to the log in. (Insert eye roll emoji.) So putting it back at least when I entered it the 2nd time – I at least had a print out and didn’t have to look up the data from various sources again. Except it was in a different order (insert favorite eye roll emoji here). Then I was .52 cents off, lol lol. But I found it pretty quickly.

I wasn’t going to eat lunch out but this week I’ve not had any good frozen meals that looked appealing. I’ve eaten those for weeks now. And I don’t want McDonald’s which is the only fast food place really close without driving 10 to 15 minutes. So I went to Santa Fe and got fish tacos one day. It’s really close to work.

They were real corn tortilla’s. The fish was good and on my “list” of things to eat once a week at least. So it was all so good. And I was done in 45 minutes which was surprising.

I did the bad thing and went for fish and chicken dinner at Captain D’s yesterday. It was good to have the time away and my head out of the numbers and papers for a few minutes. It appeared that I would have time to get everything done and I’m on the last stretch and will barely make it.

We’ve had a lot of rainbows.

I’m sorry my iPhone camera is just not pulling through for me these days but hopefully it’s better than nothing. It was also a low light situation with the sun just coming up.

This was a great shot after work yesterday. There’s my car too.

A beautiful display of the storm squall as it passed through and also appeared to be dissipating. I’ve started taking the back roads. The interstates have been full of aggressive drivers lately, people just trying to run over you, pulling in front of you, tailing you, racing and threading in and out of traffic at high speeds. The trucks are going fast and often do not seem prepared to brake (some do and I give them credit), but the ones who don’t taint the outlook of having to drive with them around. Lately there have been people shot at on the interstate, pointing guns at people on the interstate, police chases, horrible wrecks shutting it down (of course, stupid drivers aggressive behavior catching up to them), fatalities, and you know, I want to live to see my grandchild grow up and be able to enjoy my retirement days. So I’ve decided to take backroads. It takes 10 to 15 minutes longer on some days but I just enjoy the ride now and go at safer speeds and usually the crazy people are on the interstate. Not always but usually as they are too impatient to take back roads. There are more lights and school zones. I just have a good audio book on and it gets me through. Or some good music. So my commutes are back up to 45 min long now instead of the 23 minutes on the interstate during virus times. But oh well. At least I’m safer. Not really sure what it will be like when I have to go to the new plant. All that remains to be seen and we’ll either readjust something or make some “difficult decisions”. A lot of our office employees live even further out than me and our offices will be moving south of town. I’m pretty worried about losing a lot of our office staff when the time comes. Some people already spend 45 to an hour getting there and will be looking at doubling their time. Change comes and it comes often and we have to be prepared. At least there are job openings everywhere now. Some even at home or anywhere you want to be as long as there is internet.

I love my job except for maybe a few weeks out of the year, this being one of them. It is not always a convenient job for being able to go see my family in Texas. Quarter end and holidays are always the best times for us personally to go but not the best time for me from a work standpoint. That has been tough. We wanted to go for Thanksgiving which is ideal personally and also for Katy but it puts too much stress on others that have to do my job when I’m gone. So we gave up that idea. Only 3 years to retirement. But we’ll have to see what this move brings and how long the drive is on the back roads because I don’t want to take the interstate. That is in an even rougher part of town.

We have enough going on right now though than to worry about the office job location change and commute. We’ll worry about that one later. Right now we are about to embark on moving Momma again.

Monday we see the house from the inside for the first time. And then a week from today is closing. We are all getting excited. We are not excited for the move itself. I worry about George but it will be easier and we can take our time this time. Mom will have to buy a lot of appliances. We’ll have to line shelves and all that. It’s going to take a bit to get it all settled enough for her to move in. But it’s about to happen.

I like to organize and decorate so will help her with that. I also like unpacking but it’s hard when it’s someone else’s stuff.

I’m also looking forward to having my big bed back, my closet back, my bathroom back and more space across the board. I’m looking forward to us eating while we watch a show and not at the table, so we have time to watch our shows again. George has to rush to the back to Mom’s room where his computer is to pay the bills and do things on line so he is usually doing that after dinner – either that or delaying dinner by doing it before. He often would get in there in the mornings but she is asleep so he can’t do it then. It’s been a reshuffle for sure on our routine but it’s been for a good cause and we knew it was only temporary. When I move back into my bedroom, I will have the bigger closet space and shelving and can get my fall clothes out and will have my shoe rack back instead of this two little baskets I’ve been using. Then I can put my office stuff back in the closet shelves and bring my extra office table back and my supplies and camera equipment can sit about again and I can get the office stuff out from the baskets under the bed. I have to stand on my head to get any thing out of them. So I’m glad Mom will have her own space and we can go back to what we are used to. And to our routines. I’m also going to be glad to have my recliner back. I’ve missed it!

So not only do we have to move Mom but we’ll be doing some internal moves in our own house as well getting things back to the way we like them. Even little things like having my robe hang in the bathroom instead of the bedroom and having my towel rack back. And not having to change the bathroom trash as often. I’ve had to change it every other day instead of the usual once a week. An easy task but that has been one Mom has completely “let me” do. I have to chuckle at that. lol

Anyway, I’m going for more coffee and need to head in to do this last day of Quarter End. I’ll probably be back on Sunday for an update. The last hoorah weekend before we start running around like chickens with our heads cut off again. I’ll work on the video tomorrow instead of blogging but will be back Sunday. I’m making good progress on video but likely be the following weekend before it’s up and live. Just a bit more editing and graphics and overlays and it’ll be time to upload.

Oh but let me leave you with this. This is the audio book I’m doing currently. It’s pretty good. It involved an RV trip is why I downloaded it. ha!

Have a great weekend! What you gonna do this weekend? I think we are gonna rest! Might go to the new Christmas shop though.

New Year’s Eve Update

Hello Friends!

I’ve been enjoying my mornings with the sunrises. Today it will be rain and likely lots of it. I’m tempted to take a safer back route to avoid the crazies on the interstate but it’ll take way too long to get to work I think. Those crazies on the interstate are really getting crazier these days during the pandemic times. It’s as if they don’t care if they die or not so why not speed. It’s unbelievable what I’ve seen people do out there. I’m getting more and more fearful of the interstate. It seems there ARE NO RULES ANYMORE.

Yesterday morning in our work parking lot, I drank my coffee with the wind blowing in my face and watched the clouds rollover the sun rise. It was one of those “stop and smell the roses moments”. It was nice. I was thanking God for his artwork and for the moment to just stop and “remember who you are and where you are going”, a moment of thanks, of feeling blessed. I remember thinking “this moment is mine and no one can take it”. And that comes from me and my little time problem, ha! So much in life snatches so much of your time. I’m pretty guarded over my time. That goes waaaay back into the high school and college days I guess when time got tighter. And it’s been that way since.

I didn’t really get on here to begin talking about time. It is just one of the many side trails we could go off into. But that would take too much time (too much time to talk about time- ha ha) so we’ll keep going down the “what’s happening” trail instead.

What’s happening is that daughter Katy will be induced soon. Likely next week or first of the next one. They did blood work and all is ok but they asked her to keep the next appointment on Tuesday and will schedule a date then. So….we are preparing (already had been) to get packed and get ready to go once we have the date or get the call. We have made lists galore – what to take, what to pack, what to get at the store, what to eat on the way, and so forth.

I have also been working hard to get things done at work. It’s month end, quarter end, and year end. So I have been racing to get extra things done. All my reports are printed which have to be done before the next payroll run. My end of year Periodic Maintenance is done. And my tax tables are changed in the system. I did research on some of the states as I’m not getting mail that the states are sending out. I guess it’s going to someone else. I don’t know where it’s going so phbbbttttt on that. I just looked it up on the internet in our accounts on line to see what our new rate is and what the base wage is. Many did not change. A couple were electronic notices. But anyway, at least I knew where to find it. All that was taken care of.

So today I have to try to squeeze today and tomorrow in – as we are not there tomorrow. Part of Friday may have to be squeezed into Monday. Also have to work on holiday pay a bit today to figure those that are not eligible. Fun times. But this was an important week and now I will just spend January plowing through month end withholding payments, quarter end withholding payments (my weekly paid ones are done for this week), quarterly withholding returns, do my reconciliation report, then I can start on unemployment returns for the quarter, and then do all the many reports for Oregon (rolls eyes at their many taxes, lol) and then I will do all the unemployment returns and then all the year end reporting for all states and then the W-2 reporting. It’s quite the January. A lot to do. And I’ll be missing a few days of it. So the window will be tight. But I feel better remembering there is always a week of the month where I’m waiting on others so that means being off a week maybe won’t be that distressing after all.

We have been making birthday plans. It’s all tentative. You know how I feel about tentative plans, lol. But it doesn’t really matter. One way or the other on my birthday we will be going out. George says he will take me out just us and then we are going out with my SIL and BIL. Different dates of course. I’m not sure which one it will be on the 3rd. But I’ve picked my places! Stay tuned.

HBO Max

I discovered I have access to HBO/HBO Max. We have AT&T unlimited and so was able to get this streaming for free. I had to do a bit of research to figure all this out. It didn’t seem to be flashing at you anywhere. But I at least discovered it while checking into seeing how much it would cost. There were a couple of shows advertised recently that I thought we’d check into it. One was “The Flight Attendant” and we began watching that. I guess we’ll see how that turns out. I kinda had bad dreams after watching it, but I’m on the edge of my seat to see what happens. lol.

If you have these plans below as screen shot from my phone, you will be eligible for HBO MAX.

It’s not like we don’t already have enough to watch.

The to Do List is Stacking Up

What could be overwhelming, is actually a little fun – as long as it stays that way. There has always been lists of “What to do after Thanksgiving”, “What to do after Christmas” and “The New Year List”, and now there is an “After Texas List” and a “February List”. I’ve not gotten much further than that. But you know me and planning!

Most of it is simple. It’s not accomplishing big projects but just knocking simple things off. I mean doing my nails has been on the list for a week, lol. Downloading Big Sur on the Mac is on my list. Right now my lists are everywhere. Notes here and there. I’m looking forward to a “regroup” this weekend to get a bit more organized and to get some things done. I’ve not even had time to download December’s free audible book and now it’s almost time to download the January’s. (It’s not really free – I pay so much a month but get 1 “free” download a month with the subscription.) It’s been the best gift I’ve given myself. It’s also time tomorrow to put the Christmas decor up and I need to finish the video and get that up, but have to do George’s segment.

I’ve begun using my planner as the new year week started in the planner this week as New Year’s day falls into it. That was fun. Love the new planner. This week’s pages are full!

I have found that I LOVE THESE sparkling waters the best of any I have had. It has real squeezed fruit in it and it’s flavor is so vivid. I’ll be getting more of these!

George fixed a good dinner last night after my request for kielbasa or sausages meal. It was kinda cajun in a way. Poured over rice. Just excellent! Had red and green pepper in it. As well as onions and tomatoes. It was very good. He air fried the sausages which really took away a lot of the fat. So that was good!

I suggested we have a Brandy or Cognac after dinner. We watched Below Deck and sipped the last of a very good bottle of Cognac that George had received for Christmas last year.

Mr. Roger is a mess. He had the worst night ever a couple of nights ago. Last night George got up with him and they slept on the couch and when he went to sleep he brought him back to bed. We will keep working til we figure this out. But he is not liking the bed but when you put him somewhere else he howls because he wants you to be with him – just not on the bed.

Once he knows you are with him, (not on the bed) he does this……and snores to high heaven.

Well, I need to get ready and get this day done so I can come home and do all the things on my list here. Some of which is to give you all a year in review for the blog tomorrow. Put out my “here’s what I read” list. And there is so much but the focus will have to be as follows:

  1. Prep for Texas
  2. Finish next video
  3. Big Sur Update on Mac- have to get this done and a new security program set as the old one is about to renew and it doesn’t play well with Big Sur, want to finish the video soon in case it messes with iMovie.
  4. Christmas Decor up and out.

I can’t even remember what all else is on the list and it’s time to head to work. Yes I have to work on New Years Eve. So….over and out.

Oh and we are having leg of lamb for dinner tonight which was a Christmas present. Looking forward to THAT. I guess I’ll have to have a nap before midnight. I don’t see how I can possibly stay up that long. No way. What are your plans for today and tomorrow? Don’t forget to eat your black eyed peas!

Sunrise, SunDog, and Stupidity

The sky is firing up in the mornings when I leave. Last week though the sun was so bright in the mornings coming up this hill it was blinding. I had to take a different route out of the neighborhood so I wouldn’t be so blinded I couldn’t see again. That was scary.

Here is the screen shot of the hurricane. I see a rain band coming to Nashville. I hope everyone will be ok down there.

I enjoyed my shake yesterday. I added a banana. Who wouldn’t love that? It was really good. A coworker went and got a salad for us. I have had “luxurious salads” the last two days. I say luxurious b/c they cost a fortune but are so good. I’d missed my restaurant salads. And yesterday I had Logan’s salmon caesar salad. Yeah no calories in that at all loaded with parm cheese and some creamy caesar dressing. And to literally top it off, my coworker gave me the bacon and cheddar toppings thinking it was to go with my salad – neither of us realized at the time it was supposed to go on her loaded baked potato, LOL. Oh well. I told her it was good but I had thought whoever prepared the salad forgot what was to be on it. We laughed.

I’ve been seeing lots of sundogs lately. You can barely see this one. Go ahead and google sundog and click on images and you can see some with the full circle rainbow. Supposedly they are rare. I see them quite frequently at this location. The atmospheric conditions have to be right and it’s caused by light shining through ice crystals in the sky.

Supposedly it is good luck to see them but means “change” is coming. So the second one has to be true because things change all the time. Not sure about the good luck.

I do feel some change in the air though. There are signs of change no doubt poppin’ up every where. And of course it’s 2020, but 2021 could be even more interesting.

And for the stupidity part – George and I went to Kroger to get our grocery shopping done. I really didn’t get my list taken care of last weekend as we were at Mom’s. So we had a $200 trip this week. I think we kind of shocked ourselves. Plus the cost of groceries is no doubt going up.

The above pic shows how the carts were blocking the doors at Kroger (thus the Stupidity I mention). That is appalling. Nothing says we don’t care about our customer and employee safety more than that. I mean this is NOT an accidental empty box left at the back door while moving things around. This is a major entrance/exit. I wanted to go back and ask for a manager to fix it. But George was already headed to the car with our groceries so I just took a pic so I could help him. I’m about to email their corporate office. It needs to be addressed. I am just appalled. That is like Safety 101 for Idiots. Even if it were not a safety issue – it looks tacky.

Yes this is the Kroger North on Mount Juliet Road close to Lebanon Road. If it’s just a kid worker doing this and don’t know any better that is one thing but I hope the manager saw it and corrected it. Even an idiot would know not to do that, I would think. Geez. But again, it’s 2020. No one and no thing makes sense.

Hope ya’ll have a great day. I’m glad it’s Friday. Much to do at home. Looking forward to the weekend and doing “MY Agenda”!
