Big Blog Stat Hits, Work Efforts, Nail Salon Results, and Icy Weather

Wow, so the blog reached over 100,000 sometime during the day yesterday. So the blog has been viewed that many times since it’s beginning. I’m thinking it was some time in 2019 (but without looking – that is a guess). So thanks if you have in some way been a part of this number, whether you are a regular, an occasional fly by, a bystander, onlooker, stalker, troller, advertiser, curious coworker, bored personnel on a fault finding mission, lawyer (this is getting fun now), former boyfriend, or boyfriend wanna be’s (yeah we are getting in the weeds with a magnifying glass on that one), or just fantastically a friend, family, or one who cares! Thanks for bringing success to the numbers! It’s really just a milestone – not even one I was going for and there are no perks that I’m aware of except for maybe more SEO (search engine optimization) or something. It was a nice little surprise to see that this morning! There are also 600 of you that follow by WordPress Reader and 708 of you that have signed up for emails. I’m kinda astounded to realize that.

Dipping into Pink for Valentine’s Month

My nails are so much better – no cracks and no longer 3/4 up my nail bed with growth! Forgive my lack of lotion smooth skin. It’s winter and not much time given to making them soft – just pretty much ignored my hands for last month or two other than a quick pop in before Texas to get them done. This time with a pinkish tone and only the slightest of glitter. I wish the glitter showed more than it does. You can’t even see it in the photo. I’m not one to be big and flashy, but a little sparkle is fine. I keep them short for two reasons 1) I’m on the computer all day and 2) I don’t like anything getting under my nails and shorter nails just seem cleaner. I’m considering going back to my French nails but not there quite yet. I’m still enjoying the color. I’m actually thinking of going to a minty aqua color for the first time ever – for March. For the sake of explanation. This is color I’ll do next – along the lines of the colors of this wallpaper. lol. Snag it if you wish. That will also be my March wallpaper, most likely.

So the pedi was awesome as well. My feet really needed the attention. I did my own before Christmas as I just didn’t have the hour and a half to go and get it done. I just can’t do what they do though at home in keeping the nails from going into the toe and in keeping them soft. So my feet are pampered and happy and while it’s not quite time for flip flops – they are happy feet. I loved sitting in the massage chair soaking my feet in the water, getting a face time call from Katy – which I answered – not caring that people were all around. I turned the volume down some, right as she asked River “did you poopie?” lol

The massage of my legs and feet were wonderful except for that ONE toe that I must have broken or fractured and it kills me when they massage it. But I got the lady that does a good job on everything. So it was worth the walk in. And this also greatly lifted my mood. I had to leave work at 4 though to drop off our UPS as I’d heard they had not been stopping this week so there is a UPS kiosk I can drop them off to in Mount Juliet. So then I was on the way to Pedicure land and a happy girl. And one more item off the to do list.

Saturday is Feb 5th and Fancy Trim, momma’s out to eat day, errand/shopping day, and grocery day. So I won’t get any free time much til Sunday. And I’m so looking forward to it, of course we have laundry, George’s hair cut, housecleaning and our own grocery shopping so not much time to work on any personal things I’d like to do (meaning not much free time for me) but what free time I get will come Sunday in some format or it all just rolls into the nights of next week. ::sigh:: But better than last month I guess. I plan tomorrow to make some calls to set up doc appts and such and get that off my plate. One of which I’ve waited for 2 years to do as I didn’t get time last year to go.

Work Mode

I am still in w-2 reporting mode since I didn’t get the w-2 information until 1 business day before they were due, so obviously still data entering hundreds of w-2’s in various states. I will say that I am amazed at what all I accomplished at work this past month. I’m going to tabulate this up for you guys without giving too much info away which work people would be horrified over, lol. But if I give you the stats – there’s no harm in that (how many states and how many reports). Once I get finished I’ll figure up the recap. I kinda want to know myself so I can tell my grandchildren after I retire – lol lol lol. You know bragging rights and all. Of course people at work be like – you couldn’t have done more? <—This is humor ya’ll, so if you are a coworker or employer, I’m only kidding – or am I? I really don’t know what everyone else is thinking so it’s hard to say. But I can tell you that I’ve mostly been met in years past with “it has to be done” when asking about the time frame to accomplish said goals. This time it wasn’t humanly possible but I’m impressed much I got done in a short period of time even though I am pretty positive no one else was and I won’t be thanked for it. But if we improve a few things on everyone’s part, I might be able to finish on time at some point in future year ends if I am here for them. But don’t get me started here. This year end about made me show my rear end instead. But I’ve bit my lip, cried tears of frustration, and did what I could. Not much blood, but a few sweats and tears. All that said, I’m still glad I left HR. I don’t think I ever want to wear that hat again! And again, I love love love what I’m doing right now. I even like QE and YE processing – it’s the amount of work within a short time that I don’t like. I don’t like having the pressure of so much to do in so few time frames. Again, I’m moving on. I’m getting myself all worked up here. But yeah, all that to say – I’m still doing the YE processing! And it’s month end again and I’m going to have to stop to work on that so we don’t get behind in everything else too. Oh and I mention I do payroll processing, cut our garnishment checks weekly, and pay weekly taxes too? Oh ok. Well yeah, there’s the normal weekly processing that still has to be done. Ooops I was getting off the subject. Let’s move on.

New Roof

I am not sure I mentioned this as it’s something George has been handling for us, but we are getting a new roof. We had enough damage from the tornadoes that insurance is coming through for most of it. This is a blessing in a way because now it’ll be taken care of in our retirement. We are considering the gutters also as they kinda go hand in hand. So this morning at 5:30 a few minutes ago – I was picking out our shingles. Going with black. I think it has looked good black all these years.

Ice Storm

So Katy and Cody are getting what appears to be some serious ice, a couple of hours west of Dallas. I will check with them and see how they are doing. The same storm is approaching us but we are not supposed to have quite as much ice as them. We are still set for meeting neighbors tonight as I think the freezing rain will happen after then, but you bet I will be watching the temps just in case – ALL DAY! I’m taking my suit case with rollers to work so I can take stuff home in case it’s bad so I can still get work done tomorrow. I’d rather not have to worry about it and would rather be at the office to tell you the truth as it is easier. But God is in control. I have little to do with it other than trying to prep and prepare so life goes on as smoothly as it can.

And that is all for now. We’ll see how the rest of the week goes. Ya’ll take care if you are in this winter storm’s path or even the torrential rain or storms that are south of it and ahead of it. Ya’ll stay safe and warm. Prayers for all!

Storage Units and Appointments Galore

Well, Wednesday I was able to get the storage space all set up for May 29th for the Cargo Van move. I was very pleased with the place. They had nice landscaping which was a nice touch. We were not able to get a big storage unit so we got two medium ones. We also have a little bit of room left in our basement.

Their office area was nice and clean and a nice lady helped to run the place.

And we have made this little girls next two trim appointments. She has one last one in Columbia and we have set one up here in Mount Juliet, first available in July on Saturday. It’s hard to get Saturday appointments!! In June I will call and set up the August one. When I got off the phone I thought, “man, I should have gone ahead and made the next one too”.

Mom also made her first two appointments up here in these parts for her Eye Appt. They are in Hendersonville, which was really about the closest. All of the places were about 45 min away so we chose that one as I can zip through some back streets and avoid interstates. Mom prefers no interstates and while she will have to endure some, at least I can avoid it for the eye appointments and take back roads. They are scheduled through July.

There is an eye injection one every month to keep her vision in the one good eye. The other eye is blind. I will be having to take off about 1:00 for them one day a month. She made them on Fridays as late as she could get them so as not to interfere much with my work. We figured if I took PTO for this time I’d lose 6 days of vacation a year. So we figured I could just make the hours up by working over an hour a week each week to make up for the 4 hours I’ll miss a month. I will pick the days to do this and keep up with the time I made it up so I can show it was done. As I told George, I should have enough hours in the bucket worked over through the years from the HR job alone to be off every Friday from here to kingdom come! And laughed. But I will “give my extra cloak” and work the time so there are no questions asked! My bosses are understanding though so I’m not that worried over it. More worried about what those think that don’t know what is going on, as people think “why does she get to leave early on Friday and not use a PTO day?” Well it’s because she worked the hours on another day! I will get my work done and time made up. Which should be all that really matters.

So I got a pedicure yesterday after work and it was fine! However, they went up on prices. These price increases are killing me! And making me rethink what I am willing to do. I will make up the difference by eliminating a certain number of pedi’s per year that equals the cost of the increase. Because I’m stubborn that way. I still want my pedis but I’m not paying extra. So I’ll figure the extra cost and eliminate that many pedis, mostly will be cut off in the winter months when it doesn’t matter as much and I have more time to do them. Also in 2022 I will likely NOT do my nails anymore. So they are cutting me out of their market niche by the dramatic price increase! I will replace it with periodic manicures a few times a year just to do the things I can’t do as well – like shaping and cuticles and such.

I had really allowed myself to get nails done temporarily anyway as it was supposed to be a tradeoff while we were so incredibly busy with Mom on the weekends and didn’t have much free time. So we’ll see, but those are my thoughts on that.

And as for the progress on next video: I have organized end of Feb through current time and have several folders set for the upcoming videos and their segments and photos assigned to each. I just have to delete the last movie media from iMovie and import the new so soon – very soon – I will begin editing the next video. I like being able to have a set time to work on the videos now. As I’ve said before it works well to alternate blog mornings with video editing mornings! I get more time to plug away at it. And now that I’m a little more seasoned with it I can walk away from it a little easier to go to work. But it’s still hard! When you get into your creative zone it is hard to tear away! In the beginning I would get into learning something and be right in the middle of trying to solve an issue with something and it’d be time to go and it was so irritating. I’m coming around the curve with it though.

All that said I need to head to work! I didn’t leave myself much time and George left me with Roger responsibilities this morning. Have to try to change his diaper while he is asleep. That should be fun.

But you know what? I’m going to Target after work today. I’m so looking forward to it! Moreso than the Pedi yesterday I think. That’s saying a lot.

Happy Camper: Spring Coming, Pedicure Done, File Transfer Project Complete

March is here, says my calendar! And now we have the hope of spring, and we have daffodils blooming around in places and the trees are thinking about sprouting leaves as they are in “bud swell” and the grass is getting greener from the recent rains. We start our thinking now toward St. Patrick’s Day and all things Irish and green!

With Spring coming, so is flip flop weather! I am likely going to allow my self a new flip flop or two this season as I’m overdue! I’m over the Yellowbox’s making my feet black at days end! And I was most certainly over doing my own feet which was just painting my toenails during the pandemic and the winter. But I saved a few bucks and spent that on camera equipment and geeky software like Canva, Tube Buddy and Epidemic Sound.

The feet felt so good going into the hot water. And the back massage machine is a favorite and has me spoiled.

Is Getting a Manicure or Pedicure Safe?

Plexiglass drop downs are in front of each seat. The lady working on my feet, had a mask and shield. I had on a mask. I was required to sanitize before entering the salon. My temp was taken. And I was immediately seated and the only one I might add that was getting a pedi! But the nail station was full. I also got my own nails done – a spa manicure and just a translucent shine. I really loved the French manicure but just don’t want to go back into that. I need to be able to do my own nails some in between visits and not have to be subject to going every 3 weeks. I’m not ready to commit to that, but I’m ok with getting nails done on occasion. Both were only $45 yesterday as a combo deal but then I leave her a good tip. So that has to be considered into the cost. But for both, and considering the winter’s neglect to my feet and the hand sanitizer drying up my hands, the pampering was worth it. And yes, it was so safe it was probably overkill. I mean all that was left was sanitary clothing suits, lol. No we didn’t wear those, lol.

I picked the prettiest cheerful pink. It was perfect to start out the spring with.

George’s Lamb Chops and Home Made Veggie Soup

Roasted Lamb

Lamb Chops

Beef and Vegetable Soup with Macaroni

WE love lamb and he gave me several lamb cuts for Christmas. We had these over the weekend. I forgot to post it yesterday! I told him we should have this OFTEN. And I love his mint sauce! Well it’s a little pricey for having it too often, but not bad considering what that would be if we ordered it in a restaurant. I think our meal at home was about $10 piece for a weekend meal. Oh gosh it was good. I believe this was Sunday night’s meal. It was heavenly. And now I’m in the mood for a good ham. I think we are having corned beef for St. Patricks. Yum! But I’ll be on the lookout for a good Easter Ham!

Purchasing Extra Apple iCloud Space

Oh. My. Word. So I ended up NOT having enough space to do what I wanted to do and at the end of the day 48 hour battle, so I ended up just going ahead and paying $9.99 for a ton bucket load of space with Apple iCloud. But am I upset about it. No, not at all! Several things made me go ahead and buy the extra space:

1) I am tired of fighting the file battle to get everything where I wanted it to be. My Will is huge and I wanted the not yet created movie and pic files to be on the cloud. Period! And well there’s always going to be a huge “front log” of stuff I’ve not worked on yet that I don’t want to lose. I made my decisions on how I was going to be organized and quite simply I just wanted it to be that way! I didn’t want to change stream (AGAIN) mid way through the project of setting up and organizing files. I was not going to spend another 48 hours moving it all back off the cloud. I want it where I want it! Period. (It took 48 hours b/c I really didn’t know it was stuck b/c of the cloud space – I thought it was just slow, lol).

2) George wants to use the iMac to do some Garage Band work and that will be on the Cloud and those files are big too.

3) You really do get a lot of storage for the $. And for what I’m wanting to do $9.99 ain’t bad!

4) Now I can just have my Canon Camera automatically transfer to my Apple photos and then I’m dealing with only one stream of photos to “move into other files” for video creation. Not having to merge from two sources, b/c I have the space to do that now. Less time consuming and less worrisome.

Whew! This all takes some organization and thought. But it was my goal to improve, to be able to continue to do these videos, to be set up so I can get on a schedule, plan ahead, and be a well oiled machine, and I just needed to organize myself with all this. It’s been quite the learning curve of how to handle the files. Then making the decisions on how to organize it – as there were numerous options. Getting the iMac updated and secured with backup, and so forth took some research, thought and planning. But I’m over the curve and ready to go! So excited! And George is wanting to do the Garage Band and likely have some music for the videos! I love it and I love his support!

So bottom line – my photo files are on the Mac itself with a back up drive. If we have a fire it is gone as they are both in my office here. But like I have said before, the most important of these are all over social media and blogs as I share this stuff every day. So it’s available if I really needed it. Might would have to search for it but I think all in all, it would make it less painful knowing those files are still out there if I really needed them. And the video/photo media for future videos is on the Cloud.

So backing up – for about $20 per month I get a huge storage in the cloud and any song I want with iTunes – yes I bit that part of the apple some time ago. Access to any song at just about any time. I was spending that much in gift cards to keep putting music on the iPod. Speaking of iPod, why did I say that? It’s really on my phone, into my iTunes account. I rarely use my iPod anymore. I saw it not long ago and asked myself, “what is that?” —oh it’s my iPod – wow I forgot about it. lol Since it’s in the cloud I don’t need a separate device. I don’t have to worry about space. I just stream it. I also have the AT&T account where there is no cap on the service. So I don’t worry about that either. I’m not sure we need that, but we have it and we don’t worry about it. And now I’ve bored most of you to death!

I’m so happy the files are where they need to be. I’d have rather not put any more monthly money toward my habits but – it’s cheaper than golf or guitars? lol

I am NOW READY to create the new Intro when I get some time! And we’ll be on to making the next video and being on a schedule from there. Whew, what a process!

And now I’m a happy girl! But off to do payroll today. And then dinner with a friend/neighbor tonight! Excited to get out some in the world and to have a few things on the calendar. George and I even talked about taking a few vacation days and also considered the possibilities of the next Texas trip. But it’s too soon for that. But we do have our sights set on a log cabin long weekend some time this year! Gotta go!
