Heat Stroke Scare, a Picnic Lunch with Friends, and Happy Dog Pics

Friday came and went. It was a short day. I had a pretty good week last week being able to get my weekly, monthly, and quarter end taxes paid. Now I’m all ready to move forward with the quarter end processing in the coming week. I only worked half day on Friday since it was Mom’s eye injection day. So I left at Noon. (This is the reason I go in early every Tuesday so I don’t have to burn half day of PTO.)

So off to Lebanon to get Mom, and to Hendersonville to the doc appointment. For the first time ever they were very behind. We figured the docs must have had a heck of a lunch that day, lol. Who knows? Anyway her appointment still only took a little over an hour. I went through all of my emails. I think I was up to 500 or so. I try to stay on top of it. I have my normal email through AOL plus my blog email and sometimes just the gmail account that I had to have to go along with the blogging before LessHustleMoreCoffee was in existence. (Side note: It got confusing after the AOL blogs transferred to Blogspot, and then at some point I started with WordPress, and then when I started the YouTube I had a special email for that. Sometimes I wonder as I age if I’ll be able to keep up with it all. Probably not, lol! ha. I also use google to host my website domain. But for the most part I think I only have 4 active emails if you include work. I still go in and log in to the bookncoffee emails on aol -which also has the gmail version- again confusing but was necessary with the blog switcher-ooos and sign ons). I have to remind myself to log in to bookncoffee once every quarter. I don’t want to lose my old blogs. I can entertain myself for hours anywhere if I have my phone.

Mom and I ate lunch at Jonathan’s Grille in Hendersonville after her eye appointment. I had chicken tenders and Mom had quesadillas. It was all really good. I only ate a portion of mine. George ate my left overs with my permission. We also went to the store at Kroger. I had to do both mine and Mom’s groceries. While I didn’t even have a whole buggy full, it still took a while to get it done. Mom sat in the car with the a/c going. I was really feeling rushed and tried to go the fastest I could. It was one of those mega Kroger with clothes, shoes, linens, and everything else. I could have shopped all day but had to ignore any fun to check anything out. It took me forever as nothing was where I anticipated it to be and I had to look for items. I think I was in there for 45 min to an hour at least. I kept seeing $$$ in my head for Mom sitting out there with the a/c going. Half way through the shopping I began to get really anxious, like I knew I needed to rush rush rush. Well I ended up forgetting the Buddig meat for Fancy. ::sigh:: But George got it yesterday while he was out, so I’m taking that to her this morning.

However, when I got checked out and went to the car, Mom was sitting in the car with no a/c, windows down, and an umbrella out the window blocking the sun. OMGosh. She said the a/c quit and she was afraid we had burned it up as it took so long.

I got the groceries in the car and got in the car. It was 96 outside and I have no idea how hot it was in the car, but if it was too hot for me I know it was too hot for Mom. So I drove off and the wind was not giving any relief. I told Mom we would have to stop and have George come get us that we couldn’t drive home in this. She said she didn’t want to leave her car. Ok then we can go by ambulance and have twin heat strokes. Anyway, I was trying to drive and figure out what to do and it occurred to me to check the a/c. I mean Mom is so good at fixing things and if she said the a/c was out, I assumed it to be true. But I realized then “oh she can’t see” – especially after her shot because they have clouded up her one good eye. I said “Mom, did you mess with the controls over here or did the a/c just go off”. She said it got cold and she cut it down and it quit after that. I pushed the A/C button and cold air started coming out. LOL LOL LOL. Thank the Lord!

That was a horrible experience that could have led to Mom having a heat stroke if I hadn’t gotten to the car when I did and finally figured all this out. Of course I’d have taken us to a/c and we’d have stayed inside somewhere, but I never dreamed that she had hit the a/c button. I figured she would have known to try that. But I don’t think it even occurred to her that she could have turned it off. So this is sending me all kinds of signs, bells, and warnings. Geez. A scary moment. Such a simple thing could have been a catastrophe. I told her I wasn’t going to leave her in the car again even with the a/c going. Unless of course it’s reasonable temp outside or we just have an item or two. I should have taken her home and then gone back out for the groceries. I just didn’t really think it would be a long drawn out grocery run. But with two of us and a huge grocery I never go in- yep it was forever!

Friday night I slept well and Saturday George got up with Dexter dog, letting me sleep. I was thankful. I got Dex a new toy at Kroger. Here’s a 40 second video. George is goofing with Alexa in the back ground! He told her to add “grocery list” to the grocery list. lol. I’m gonna mess with George and change it to the man voice. Yes, there is a new voice available. Unsure if we should call him Alex.

Dogs crack me up the way they lay sometimes, but this says he is beginning to be really comfy around us I guess. lol

So Saturday we had a lazy morning – well I did laundry – some of it! George ran some errands. We had to drop off his car to get tires rotated and shopped at Target while it there as Target was next door. Then we set out to meet Don and Lisa and Amber and Dillon at Monday Night Brewing in Nashville. Lisa packed us some sandwiches and George and I brought some sides to go with it. We had a spread and a half and of course we had couple of beers as well. I had one and a half. I can’t do two anymore.

I’m special. I had the crown, lol. And water!

Making our Own Fun at Monday Night Brewing with Picnic Lunches

We didn’t ask if we could bring food, but being that we were picnicking on the outside, and each had our own little bag – no one said anything. If they had we’d have gone and ate in the car and come back in I guess. lol

Above just random pics around the brewing company and also in Nashville.

When we got home, George and I spent the evening reading, much of the time with Dexter Doodle in between us. He learned to jump on the couch yesterday all by himself. He missed the first time but managed to try again and made it and surprised us all!

So today, I’m taking Mom to church and out to eat and then I have to do a couple of things for her. Then we have to go get my car which is in the shop, but getting spark plugs and a new headlight so I can hopefully more safely drive it to work.

I have to come back also and do the ironing (my ironing is mostly just pressing to get the few wrinkles out for the work week), and I’m making enchiladas tonight, as the Hello Fresh taught me to do. I’m making them on my own. Looking forward to it.

Anyway, hoping church is ok today and the weird man doesn’t come back. Mom and I are going to sit somewhere else. I think it is supposed to rain/storm sometime today too. Anyway it’s horribly hot in these parts. Summer is definitely here and June about to come to an end.

Will be planning the July 4th meal next week. I have not looked yet to see what all we have planned for next week. I’ll be doing my reconciliation report next week at work. But not sure what appointments we have yet. I’ll look at the calendar Monday morning. I don’t usually have appts on Mondays.

Anyway, I’m glad ya’ll enjoyed the video. If you missed it – see yesterday’s post. I actually gained 4 subscribers. Wow, lol. I’m so happy. I am already working on the next one of course. I think you will like it even better. We are closing in on the rest of 2021 and make it through Thanksgiving in this one. It’ll be a little longer than some. Then the following one is our Asheville trip – so stay tuned.

I better go so I’m not late.

Whirlwind Weekend, Being Told Every Move to Make, and Needing Rest

The peonies have been beautiful. I have not had “time to smell the roses” and enjoy them. It’s been a quick flash of “oh look something bloomed”! So I will share flowers and random pics of the last few days here among my words.

Saturday was a quick but wonderful trip out to the Cool Springs area. Mainly because we had a gift card to the Cheesecake Factory. I mean that is how we do things. We have ONE thing that causes us to go a direction and we build the day across that in our excursions. Kinda like decorating a room around a special piece of decor, lol.

So we like to start around lunch and we made plans to go to YAT’s. I looked up about three places that looked good that were not overly expensive that we had never been to and asked George if he would like to try them. He picked Yats! We had told our good friends that live in the area that we would be out their way if they wanted to join us in any of our activities. So they joined us.

At Yat’s you can order half n half! That way you get to try two as it’s hard to decide. I got the Drunken Chicken and the Sausage with Red Beans and Rice. I did not eat all of my rice. This was great! I enjoyed it very much. Their lights were interesting and the food was quick. So its a quick service.

Afterwards we headed to grab a beer with our friends at a nearby brewery only to find it was closed. So we went to another ale house nearby called Brewhouse South. It was a special time to get to see our friends for a extra round of catching up. We were not ready to say good bye yet. And it was a blessing to see them all. And even Miss J who had flown in from California. Bless her, she bought our beer. And friend Lisa told me about this beer that is mostly gluten free. On our side of town the gluten free is hard to find. But this one and Daura Damm have big flavors but not the heaviness that the other ones have. I liked this a LOT. We spent a long while there at the place catching up. I only had the one in case you were wondering. Although Lisa topped me off once when she didn’t want all of hers.

Then George and I went to Gabe’s and shopped. It’s a discount store. I never buy much in there but I always find something. It’s fun to shop. It’s about the search. I bought a $4 shirt to wear with pajama bottoms, and I bought some hand soap. And a new pillow. They had good brands for “real cheap”, including memory foam.

Before I knew it we were ready for our reservations at 5:45. We checked in but George left his phone in the car so we missed our reservation call when they called for us – even though we were standing right next to the hostess desk. lol. When others behind us began being seated I asked George if he had his phone. “No, it’s in the car”.

“Then how are they to reach us?” George had made the reservations. He is used to me doing it and giving them my number. Or really just used to them calling “Cox, party of two”. So we inquired and they had called us, but they seated us anyway without further delay. We sat at a two seater (Mom would have hated it and complained). lol But it was plenty of room there. We had a pleasant meal. And iced tea was my drink of choice, lol. Our food was devine! The steak medallion dinner was out of this world.

Afterwards we went to Sprout’s, a grocery store we had not been to. We only had 30 min to shop as it was 8:30 when we got there. Shocked at how long the Cheesecake Factory took. But we wanted to go so we kinda rushed through. Thankfully it was a smaller store and not as big as a Kroger. We loved Sprout’s. A lot of healthy choices and much of it organic. We were just in love! But at the check out with not even a heaping amount in our buggy, it was nearly $200. Sticker shock. We bought lots of new things and some fresh things for the week. Our Hello Fresh doesn’t start til next week. I had storm warnings on my phone for our home area but was glad we shopped as it was no longer raining when we got home. It was totally clear on the other side of town.

We got home past bed time. I still think it was 10:30 when I finally laid my head on the pillow. And wake up time came much too soon. I was shocked to realize I’d only truly got 5.5 hours sleep. I think I tossed and turned some.

My body was feeling the tired crunch Sunday but we got up and took Mom to church and brought her a cheesecake from the Cheesecake Factory. (We also bought us one which I ate bites of Saturday night before bed and Sunday afternoon).

After church we went to a new subway shop near Mom’s. Jersey Mike’s. Their sandwiches are good. They only have subs that I saw. I didn’t see a wrap or a salad. But their rosemary parmesan bread was really good and seemed fresh. We had a little trouble inside ordering. Mom had given me money to order hers and then George and I were to be on a separate ticket. So I was trying to give them a name for Mom’s order and ours a separate name so it would not be confused. George interrupted/corrected me and told them to just put it under one name. That was his first mistake. lol

So at the check out they rang up Mom’s order and my sandwich. I knew it was going to happen, as George had changed the name and made them do it as one. I’m sure he was trying to make it simple for them but it really only confused them.

We had told the guy it was two separate orders when we ordered but down the way where they ring it up, they didn’t know as it was all under one name. So when she only gave me $4 back from Mom’s $20, I knew that they had overcharged us. I asked where the rest was as it was just one sandwich. They said “oh you didn’t tell us”. I said “well we told the guy when we placed our order”. (But since it was under one name, she wouldn’t have known.) She said “ok I’ll correct it”.

As she started to correct it George said “don’t worry about it. We will settle it up b/w us.” He was trying to make it easier for them. But I wanted them to make it right for Mom so I could give her back her correct change. I said “I don’t have change George let’s just let them make it right for Mom.” He said he said “no” that he would take care of it and pay her back.

I left to get in the car as everything I said was overridden and corrected and then I was told to move out of the way by George. So I just said “well I see you have everything in control, I’m going to the car”. I was embarrassed at being treated like a child, not like an adult that is trying to fix a problem. People were starting to stare. I am not sure if they were staring at me for the confusion of our order or staring at George for being patronizing and adversarial. But he wanted to correct everything I tried to say so I let him finish up the order and bring it out.

When I recalled the incident to Mom after short changing her for her sandwich and trying to explain what happened and why she only has very little change back, George didn’t want me to tell the story by saying “it’s all in control” twice. He wouldn’t let me speak. I called him on it. I told him that I get to have a voice and speak from time to time and if I want to tell Mom what happened I most certainly will. He retorted by saying we could just go to lunch by ourselves next time. I said “fine if you want to draw that boundary for yourself, go ahead”. So I guess he will begin taking a separate car. And if that means that I can order without such pandemonium and being corrected every time I speak, hey – I’m up for that. I just know that I don’t want to be shushed, overridden, and contradicted at every word that comes out of my mouth. It’s very frustrating and not appropriate and I will refuse to tolerate that on my end either. Everyone has to have “their way”. And I give it to them a lot to avoid confrontation. This is just a good example. I may have a few boundaries of my own to settle. We may need to have some serious conversation if that ever happens again!

Of course with all my manipulation and narcissist training, I have been trying not to let people get to me. It’s a curve you have to go around. I’m not saying George is a narcissist, but I do think that some of the 5 people I am around the most have narcissistic tendencies (possibly even myself) or perhaps we are just all very individualistic, selfish, and opinionated and we all like to call the shots and have things our way. So much so that it creates confusion – such as above when three people have three different ways they want to do something. But I have to learn to let people know how I want to be treated. Just because someone wants to do something their way doesn’t mean they should demand to have it their way. It’s really ok for Sonya to get to decide how something should be done too.

I think I did well yesterday. I left the scene so I would not cause one! Or I’d have given boundaries right there in a the restaurant for all lol. He is lucky I didn’t scold him on the spot and embarrass him as much as I was already embarrassed for being patronized, corrected, and interrupted, and overruled by Every. Little. Thing. I. Tried to do and say in the deli which continued in the car. SMH.

So we got to Mom’s and I’m trying to be calm and I choose to just be quiet and helpful so that we can eat and get home and move past it all. So I start to take our sandwiches outside to be helpful. And I was told not to do that we’d fix our plates inside. My every move is always being watched by someone yesterday it seemed. I could do no right by anyone. I told Mom “however you want to do it”. I think at that point I was just thinking “Lord I can’t do anything right by these people today that just want to control every move I make.”

I guess it just gets tiring being around so many people that are so opinionated and have to do things their way – every little thing – it gets so tiring. Can I just make a decision on my own puhhhhlease? It may be little things but it seemed all morning long no matter what I tried to do or say it was getting corrected or needed to be done a different way. Mom said “Sonya” —and then stopped. And it’s a good thing she did as I’d have probably left and gone home if she’d said another word. I’d had enough of being told what to do and how to do it. I told her “hey – I said however you want to do it. I’m agreeing with you – take it!”

I’m surprised someone didn’t barge into the bathroom and explain to me how they wanted me to tear the paper off the roll and wipe my butt. Sorry, TMI, but that is how I feel. I can’t move without someone trying to correct every move or telling me what to do. “Lock this, close that, open this, put that here, where’s this, you are walking too fast, no do it this way, put it here, sit here, let’s do this, let’s do that”.

I think I just need Calgon to come take me away. And I’m laughing because as I typed that it changed to Calvin instead of Calgon. I’m like who is Calvin? If he can let me be my own person and treat me nicely I might go with him! Just kidding, but gosh. What a day.

Bottom line is I think I’m just overly tired and stretched too thin and quite frankly just had enough of everyone. I’m not getting any time to myself to rejuvenate and likely not getting any rest. So guess what? This is what you get. You get your way most of the time still but I’m coming out of my skin to call you on it when I’m tired. It is true that I usually let everyone around me have their way. Give me a tired moment and let me have my way once please?

So we ate sandwiches on the patio which I’d been looking forward to. We did it Mom’s way and fixed our plate on the counter. I don’t see as it made much difference. I ended up having to carry the fixed plates to the patio, lol. So it wasn’t easier for me but if was easier for everyone else that is fine. But whatever.

So bottom line? Did George settle up with Mom? No he didn’t have change and I didn’t either. I told him so in the deli. But he had to have his way. Everyone has to have their way. So I let them. Now Mom has been short changed. I was just trying to make it right for her. George was trying to not have the place go to so much trouble. So we were both right except for his treatment of me and shushing me aside and overriding every little thing I tried to say. He should have just let it go. Instead I did. Arghhh. I hate situations like this. It was embarrassing for all. But bottom line the problems is now ours to fix. Well his. And I’m going to let him fix it as he is the one that owes her – not me. He overruled me.

I’m not going to hold a grudge over this incident. I’m going to let it go. I’m just venting. It’s just one of those things that happens in marriage and relationships. But I may need to set some boundaries about not being interrupted when I am talking, handling a transaction, or ordering. If I’m truly doing something wrong it’s one thing. But it made it confusing for everyone. There is more than one way to skin a rabbit but no need to try to skin it three ways at once.

The tribe has spoken.

Coming back home, I had about three or four days of stuff to do. I did not get it all done. I had laundry to do, ironing to do, kitchen to clean, dishwasher to reboot, dishes to wash. Work bag to pack for the week, vitamin/med pack to fill up for the week. I had my colonoscopy instructions to read so I’d know what all I can’t take this week as far as supplements. But I did take time to consolidate all the notes, thoughts, ideas, and to do’s that had accumulated across my desk for the past month.

I still did not get finished blogging today but I am already running behind. There is still way too much on my to do list for the week. Grad cards need to be mailed, we need to get to the bank, still haven’t worked on the cable, haven’t finished the dog applications (the ones I was doing, George finished his). I did get some dusting done though, Yay and changed George’s sheets. I have to go to Publix and pick up Rx and get groceries that Sprouts didn’t have.

I’m actually looking forward to the Colonoscopy to get a day at home. I still have to go have the procedure so it’s not a true day at home but at least I’ll have some down time to rest and/or do things I want to do that allow you to sit and do it. It’s so frustrating to fight with my time. Even now I’m probably late to work. And will have to work over to make it up. Always robbing Peter to pay Paul with time. Arghhhhhh! I was going to work on the schedule yesterday and figure a few things out, but I didn’t have time. How ironic.

Hair Cut Decisions, Nashville Predator Hockey Game, and Mid-Week Update

The Contest Winner – but NO PURPLE!

Good morning! I prompted a little voting situation on Facebook and asked everyone to let me know what style (I had them numbered) I should get, when I cut my hair next week. This one won. But I will not be getting the purple, lol.

I am just really undecided if I want to cut it like this yet. My hair has a bit of curl to it these days I’m not sure I can make mine look like that. But, even wavy, or curly I guess that cut could still work. Wish I could see the front! I imagine the front to look something like this below. I know I’m not going for bangs yet. But I’m ok with pieces that fall at my ear lob similar to this one.

Straight Bob Shaped to Head with Wispy layers at Bottom

These styles below also really appeal to me. One has long bangs and the other does not. Both are longer in the front and I wouldn’t want mine to be a LOT longer in the front but I’m ok with subtle.

Messy Bob with subtle layers.

I’m also really drawn to the look of this one below. With it’s long layers. Keeping in mind mine would have waves and would not be straight unless I did a lot of styling which I’m likely not to do more than a blow dryer and round brush or round air brush dryer.

Straight Shag Layered Cut

I also really like these below but I think I want more layers than just the bottom layer, but this looks really nice. II think the one on the right is better as far as that type of look goes and I think I actually like the one on the right quite a bit now that I think of it. I think I like it better than the one with purple above. This would still work fine with a little waveband the layers will look good straight or with waves or even a bit of curl. I think I may have made my decision by doing this blog entry. It’s really not far off from the top one except the top one (with purple) is more like a wedge in a way – instead of only having this cut on the back it comes on around to the sides a bit. I like mine longer in the front. I can straighten the front to come down like a long bob in one piece around my face (no layers unless they start at my ear lobe) and then the layers can start pretty immediately as you go around my face.

Bob Layered at bottom and/or subtle layers with tapering at the bottom. I’m not really sure what you call all these!

These below are the cuts that I had been getting all along and grew it out. Sometimes I miss it. But those bangs are so hard to grow back out. And I kinda like me without bangs now, but again, I’m a little undecided. I call this the “Meg Ryan” look – the way she used to look when she was in all the movies.

And one daring day, I’m liable to just go ahead and do a pixie cut! This one got several cuts. But wow my ears would stick out and it would be interesting. I think as long as the layers were long and it was cut lie this, it would be ok. I just don’t want to look like a man! lol. This is when big earrings would have to be worn all the time, lol! But I’m not that daring yet. It does seem to go good with turtle necks, which I don’t wear much of anymore.

So what do you think?

My appointment is next week. I will let you know for sure. I may just start with the long layered bob and after that go for the one that is a better shorter like the red head above. And then after that maybe go for the pixie and after that grow it all back out again and start over! lol. I really like having varying hair styles.

An Evening Out to the Predators Hockey Game

We drove in with our neighbors with us for a hockey game Tuesday night as George had been given tickets through his work. Since the photos are already on social media and shared, I figure it’s ok here as much of the same folks are on here.

Meet Chip and Anne and me and George.

And then we caught up with our other neighbor David as well centered.

We were laughing trying to get us all in the picture.

I had to laugh at this big hat but how annoying if you were seated directly behind him. I’m surprised such is allowed.

We went back into a special section of the building where there were some prehistoric bones found in Nashville and excavated while building things downtown. I guess that is where the Predators name came from.

There was a museum of Nashville sports back there in the “secret special location” of the building. lol

And of course there was a win! (Played against a Canadian team.)

The deer were hanging out with Sasquatch next door at our neighbors house when we took them home. We got home close to 11 p.m. So by the time I got in bed I was already 2.5 hours down on sleep.

Other Updates

So, I talked with Mom and her love sofa arrived. She likes it but says it is smaller and there is not much room for Fancy to sit and it is hard to nap in as it leans to far back for her liking. But she is “making it” she says. lol. I figured something would be wrong with it, but she picked it out over the others and liked it the best. So I hope she will come to enjoy it. She is like me (or is it I’m like her, lol) and we both notice what is not right about things. We are live critics of everything trying to make our world and our environments better places. At least that is MY story and I’m sticking with it.

She has also been having trouble paying her HOA. She pays it and they send the check back and then tell her she still owes money. I’m not sure what is amiss but thinking maybe she is sending to the wrong place or either they don’t have the right accounts set up or something. She is having a devil of the time getting someone on the phone.

We had storms to roll through – well it was more like very high winds with rain. It was windy all day long yesterday. I was afraid to go to sleep til they storms or line passed through b/c we were under a tornado watch and the energy within could pop up and rotate at any time so I stayed alert til the line passed. It was about 10:15 when I went to bed and slept. So I’m behind on the sleep this week. I’m feeling a little moody this morning and overslept by 45 minutes. George had to wake me up. I really don’t have time to blog but decided I’m doing it anyway as I had planned to. I’ll just have to work a bit later or do without much of a lunch break.

Ok so I’m over and out. This week has been a fast one. The next two days I will be heavily involved in quarter end. I’m making some progress, a little quicker than usual, so far. We’ve not had much time to get anything done this week with working all day and doing things in the evenings.

We talked with Mom and also FaceTimed with River last night for a long while. He is WALKING NOW! He has been taking like 8 to 11 steps at a time now. And he is suddenly talking more. And he will point to his face body parts when you ask where is your nose, eyes, ears. And he will say “Bye Bluey” and wave, and he and I made O faces at each other. He laughed when we did it back and forth. I love that he is communicating. He goes to the window and says “da da” b/c he knows his Daddy is out there (hunting).

So tonight I’m getting my nails done – I guess that means I won’t be working too late though. lol. I’ll just cut my lunch shorter then.

WE are looking forward to Saturday as we have a day at home and then Sunday is church day and we’ll take Mom to lunch and to AT&T. And before too long we’ll schedule another work day at her house to help more with her garage and haul off any Good Will items.

Well I better get out of here. My blogs are long when I miss a couple of days.

The depression is still on the way out. It’s been a good week. Thank goodness. And I’m hoping to get some things off of my list as we go into the next few days! Weekend approaching. Sleep is up there at the top. Getting more coffee and getting myself out the door. Take care! What is going on with YOU this week. Let me know!
