Filing a Police Report and Celebrating our 30th Anniversary in Nashville

Filing the Police Report

After filing the police report for the identity theft where someone tried to file unemployment claim in my name, we could then get on with our Anniversary Saturday plans. I had never set foot in a police department before so it was interesting. There was traffic court going on. We went in and a big sign said if we needed to file a police report to call using the phone in the corner. And then wait. So we did just that. I was expecting someone to come to us from within the building but a police officer drove up from the street and came in to help us. We went into a room. I told him what happened and gave him a copy of the claim that my employer had given me. He spent a long time looking at the report and taking notes. And I’m thankful they let me know so I could try to fix or block any damage done. Luckily no damage that we are aware of anyway and we’ve checked all the main things and no one can open new accounts either. We have a great police force here. The walls inside the police station were filled with big happy pictures of the crew within the neighborhoods and a canine dog – I wondered if it was one that had been a good one that passed or perhaps one that is still living now that they use. Anyway, an interesting time and we went home after that and got ready for our anniversary day out.

The title of this blog today is not a title I thought I’d be using for today’s blog, lol. Kinda catches your attention though doesn’t it. At least I’m lucky that the police were not separating us during our 30 year anniversary, lol! The way the title reads it kinda sounds like the anniversary went awry, but we had a great time!

Anniversary Celebration

We headed out just after the huge rains had past. Can you see that strange patch of blue? It was the strangest blue I’ve seen amidst rain clouds, with these white clouds passing under it and behind it. While we still had very cloudy skies, it was at least a bit lighter and only misty rain at times but I was glad it was not raining during times we were walking somewhere or driving on the interstate. I had prayed for that and God obliged. So we drove into downtown and into the Gulch where are rooftop experience awaited.

It was not possible to get both us and the view from inside. So now you see us!

Now you don’t!

We enjoyed the rooftop drinks. Has to be a special occasion for these drinks as they are about a 50% mark up from a normal restaurant. Usually with cutesy names, a bit of decor in the drink, and a pricey little view. But we love to do this about once a year! I mean, we were mainly paying for the rooftop view!

Blue Stripes Cacao Shop, Nashville TN in The Gulch

For the first time ever, we went to a Cacao shop. I had heard that cacao was very good for you. So we ordered cacao cappuccino for each of us. It was perfect! I loved it. I want another! We got it to go and headed back to our car. The Gulch area was very busy and alive. You can see the angel wings in this pic in the distance where there is always a line to get your pic taken for instagram and social media! lol. Every city has it’s cool spot I guess to get your pic taken to prove you were there?

Then we drove over to Frugle MacDoogal’s. It has been the cheap place (sometimes but not always) to buy wine, liquor, and there’s a beer section too. It’s been there for years and years and years. I can remember it being there in the 80’s. I bought a bottle of wine for me. And we bought some club soda to make a citrus bubble drink for me with orange juice and I bought some bitters too. George bought a bottle of wine to go with our dinner tonight – might even be to cook our dinner in, I’m not sure. But anyway we made a stop while we were there. And they also had a tequila tasting going on.

The tequila on the right was $129 tequila. I was really impressed that we got to taste it. It was smooth of course. But I would never pay that much for tequila. I hardly ever have tequila at home anyway. I only drink it when we get a margarita and that is usually at a Mexican restaurant if I’m in the mood for it.

Then on to our 5:00 p.m. reservations at Rolf and Daughters. There was some security to knowing that we would be in Nashville and out of Nashville before dark. Not saying that all places are unsafe. And probably where there are lots of people you are generally safe. In this day and age that is a false sense of security if there is an active psycho shooter. But that could happen anywhere. But I did feel good that we had early reservations. We normally would shoot for six or seven p.m. but they were all booked up so we went with five p.m. and that was fine with me.

Rolf and Daughter’s Restaurant, Nashville, TN

The menu often requires some explanation, which is part of the fun and can be part of the mystery. Even when explained, you still are not sure what it will be like. I believe if you like to experiment and perhaps go off on the ledge a bit, you will find that you are absolutely smitten with this place and will look forward to coming again.

If you are a picky eater you still might do alright as for example, on this menu there was a chicken dish, pork dish, and some pasta dishes. So the waiter can help you choose something on the conservative side. I chose to go more on the seafood side. The bass caught my attention. It was good but I think if I could choose again, I’d do something different. But I got to taste what that was like. And I’m sure my body thanked me for the fish. I like to eat fish once every couple of weeks. Would prefer every week but usually doesn’t work out that way.

We ordered the bread and seaweed butter which was excellent! George ordered the Agnolotti, sweet corn, jalapeño, lime and pecorino. Which was like sweet corn ravioli. We got the hamachi which was calamari over peas with green onions on a red sauce which was a little spicy but not hot.

We had mousse and olive oil ice cream for dessert. It was out of this world eaten together!

I had coffee with dessert.

We did some damage! ha. But we chose to do this instead of taking off and spending money on travel and hotel. There is just so much going on and so much we are wanting to do. And we love our Saturday excursions. We’ll be able to do more of that next year we hope but the day we planned was perfect and just what we wanted to do. We explored new foods and new drinks and had a blast being together and doing our excursion things.

You’d never find the place if you just went looking for it! But oh, word of mouth gets out. It is a popular spot. And one we are loving to share with you! We highly recommend it if you are a foodie type and not too picky about trying new gourmet dishes. You likely will not be stuffed here when you leave – but you will feel perfect and pleasantly satisfied, in my opinion. Let your waitress or waiter help you in determining the dishes that are right for you. I would suggest that this is a share all the dishes type of experience. It doesn’t have to be, but I recommend that whatever dish is on the table, you share with all so all can get a taste.

For the most part, I like what I see when I look back at our 30 year marriage! Yeah there were some rough patches but there are always those. Yeah, even today, our marriage is not perfect, but I’m happy to be where I am and with who I am. I think over all we made the correct choices for ourselves and good decisions along the way. It may have got started off in rocky ways but I think God knew what He was doing when we both prayed to lead us in the right directions.

God can see the bigger picture, when we cannot always see it.

And back home again to our wonderful little and growing Mount Juliet, TN. What a wonderful evening.

In George’s card, I told him of 30 ways I loved him.

Yeah there’s probably more reasons to love George! But those are the thirty I listed as they came to mind. I teased him that there were just only thirty, lol.

Now today, I will work on catching up, resting, cleaning, working in my office and whatever I need to do to make the week a bit easier! I’ll see you in the morning and let you know what I accomplished today in my free time (oh how I love my free time) and I’ll give you our week’s outlook.

What grand and glorious things – or restful things – or busy things – are you doing this weekend?

Video UP: Crab Boil for Two, Fall Decor, and an Anniversary Weekend

The next video is up! Other than the very first video I did, I think I struggled with this one the most. Improvements are needed and will happen over time once I get time to learn how to video myself and get comfortable with it. Just need time to do the lessons. But, I also had over 2 hours worth of footage and had to get it down to 18 minutes. Was shooting for 17 but by the time you add the ending it went into 18. So it’s a little choppy as I cut nearly every breath and pause that I took out of it. All in all though, I think I did an ok job with the effects and music to try and make it presentable. I have laboured over this one for HOURS! I pushed it to finish yesterday, ignoring my household responsibilities.

So if you want to give me some love and support, go to Youtube and subscribe and give it a like. You do have to sign up but it’s free. They will ask you to do the paid one and just ignore that and do the free one. I have 31 subscribers and hoping for 100. I never dreamed how hard it would be to get to 100 subscribers. It really messed with your psyche. But in doing my research, I see that it is never easy to get the first 100 and it gets easier after that. But I have highs and lows after I publish a video. I get excited and then deflated. This time I’m not as excited. I’ve kinda detached my feelings from this one. Well sort of. Let’s just say I’m not getting my hopes up and then maybe I’ll be surprised.

I’ve been in a funk the last few days. Probably several reasons for it. But I’m working my way out of it. Lots to be thankful for, lots to trust God with, and a restful 4 day Thanksgiving weekend ahead that we are looking forward to. The Bible study above was great and it’s finished now. So I’ll be looking for another one of his. I needed a break from the normal study ones that I do. Which is usually Beth Moore.

Yesterday was spent mainly on the video. George gave Roger a bath as he has the walk in shower. I dried him off and gave him a trim. I was surprised that he let me do it. He was very patient for a very long time. I think he knew what I was doing and trusted me. He looks a bit choppy as I don’t have the proper tools and my scissors need sharpening. But this is the way we are going to have to do it. He struggles with his balance. I even had to watch him after the shower as he does his nose and side body along the floor but he runs himself under the bed and gets stuck, nearly knocks over guitars on the guitar stand, and he’s just not safe. Regardless of me being the trimmer, he seemed happy, much cleaner, and looked better. He snoozed.

Grandson News

Katy called us and sent us pics and videos of River’s 3D ultrasound. You can see his face. He’s a cute one. They caught a pout when they kept poking him to move around some. lol. His little cheeks are cute. He looks like a combination of both of them but I can’t tell about whose features are whose. I had decided he had Katy’s cheeks. He looks a lot like Cody but still a lot like Katy. Of course it is hard to tell with the 3D images.

I’m not sure what I can post and can’t. I was told not to post their faces and home in video but I think I can probably post the nursery on my blog. There shouldn’t be any reason that would be a problem. Plus I want to brag on my girl! Look how pretty. She has done a great job with it. And the floor is open for play time!

That dresser was mine growing up and then eventually Katy’s.

I got on line and ordered some vitamins I needed and a few more Christmas items. We blew it out of the water for Christmas shopping already. Our Amazon bill was incredible. There was more than Christmas on there too I think. So we’ll be shrinking back a bit on the things we do. And with COVID rearing it’s ugly head again, we have another reason to hang low. It’s ok. While I’m sad that we can’t have the hustle and bustle, there is a part of me that is totally ok with less hustle. I mean really is that not what the blog is all about? LOL And of course I just went and filled my coffee up again.

Thanksgiving Update

We downgraded our menu for Thanksgiving since Mom is not coming. We are not going to have the broccoli salad, not going to have dessert, having plain cranberry instead of the gussied up cranberry salad, and no longer having rolls – we are eating those this morning for breakfast with the leftover ham. George is buying stovetop stuffing instead of making the real thing. I’m considering making dressed eggs though. Mom was going to bring those, but I think I may make those now. So we’ll have turkey, dressing, pea and asparagus casserole, dressed eggs and we’ll have the special Japanese sweet potatoes that George got from Demeter’s Common.

So today’s goals?

  • Iron, finish laundry.
  • Pick my wardrobe out for tomorrow
  • Take care of doggies
  • Watch for the rain coming
  • Look at the forecast for this week
  • Clean my office
  • Vacuum
  • Clean the tub
  • Fan blades clean in the kitchen
  • Clear out the imovie and start the next one
  • Read a chapter in my book
  • Do a devo
  • Look at some cookbooks for things to fix to help George out

It has the potential to be a lovely day, despite the grey outside. I’m ok with a grey day.

I have plans to film our day on Thanksgiving from start to finish. We’ll see how that goes. My learning curve with the camera is not coming along too well as I don’t have time to sit and do the lessons. I keep doing videos on a whim w/o taking time to learn. Why? Because life doesn’t stop. However it seems like it is slowing down so I will take advantage of it and I plan to do that some next weekend – maybe I can sneak in a lesson today before Thursday when I’m supposed to video some. Much of the video I shot in the latest video in the house was out of focus. It didn’t look out of focus in the view finder. Anyway, I will make the most of the time we have and try to learn something. The lighting in the house is horrible also. I have not invested in the lighting equipment yet. That will have to come later. But it’ll be a big help when I am “learned” (lol) with the camera itself.

I’ve been working on my list of things to work on in 2021 and I’m very excited about that. Mainly has to do with the video and vlogging journey.

And with that I think I’ll end. I’ve not taken a lot of photos lately. Not much going on and it’s kinda been a tough week for me for a LOT of reasons. I will admit it has been a struggle. But I will not park all my feelings here. To do so will just wallow in it and make it worse than it is. I’m choosing to rise above it, LET GOD do HIS thing, and then I’ll do my things in peace.

Likely I will not be posting much this week unless I get some time from somewhere. I have 3 very long and busy days of trying to cram 5 days into 3 for payroll and taxes. It won’t get all done and I’ll play catch up the following week in a month end situation. But I will work longer hours to get the critical things done. And then we will have 4 blessed days off. And we are looking forward to that. We’ll also start decorating for Christmas the day after Thanksgiving. I’ll film some of that too. ha.

I better get cranking with all the footage I already have! Bless its heart. We’ll see! And I may do a private blog entry to just get a few things off my chest.

Retirement Ahead, Anniversary Outings, and Today’s To Do’s

Ahhhh, it’s been two days of no blogging but it feels like a half of a century!

Friday we went to our financial meeting in Hendersonville. I always enjoy going to these as I learn so much and it’s interesting to me. Financial subjects have always intrigued me but also has intimidated me as the terms and the concepts can get away from you really fast. I always had an interest in everything financial – just like I do science, but both topics took a back seat to everything else in life. George began doing our finances as he asked to do so when we got to together. We have come a long way since then. And we are set to retire in just 4 years now, Lord willing.

The pic above is our coming back from our meeting, but after our dinner at Casa Vieja in Hendersonville. Was a really nice evening as a cool breeze and fall weather has begun, so we sat very comfortably out on their patio.

It was nice going home and realizing that we had 2 days off.

Saturday, The dogs had to be at their groomer at 8:00 a.m. And George and I dropped them off and went to the store for a few things for the crab boil we are having tonight. Fun to see fall coming together.

We went the back way to check out another store close to us and found something interesting and disgusting. I guess whatever was in the trash at the Thai restaurant was totally calling in the vultures. Interesting isn’t it?

There were SO many more than this. Like 3 times more. You should have seen them take flight when we came through. I’ve added a video here of the vultures but may come back and take it out because it doesn’t appear to be working too well. In case it doesn’t work and I forget……..If you see it – then we are lucky. If you don’t – you know that WordPress failed at being able to show it. This feature has been iffy in the past if you don’t put it on YouTube or Vimeo. Right now as I’m in draft mode, it looks black and says “loading”. So no guarantees.

When we got home yesterday from the store, I worked in the house some, fixed us egg sandwiches for breakfast, started laundry – mainly my normal routine. I did catch up watching a lot of the YouTubes I watch throughout the day here and there – mainly while eating – lol since I am sitting anyway.

We did a bit of meal planning for the week.

One of my favorite things is to dip food into Catalina Dressing. I tried to pick one that wasn’t too sugary and had the best oils in it. I’m sure it’s not the healthiest of dressing choices but it’s better than most. I enjoyed this snack and it made a perfect lunch yesterday.

We picked the dogs up from their trim. They came home and snoozed to recover from the excitement of getting baths and poked and prodded. We hear Roger is not fond of getting his paws done. With no teeth, when he tries to bite, he only gums you. lol. Bless him.

Miss Maisy
Mr. Roger

They look sharp after their trims. I really like Maisy with her butterfly ears but we get them trimmed back as they grow pretty fast. She looks like a boy til it grows back. But we know that she is our dainty little Maisy so no gender confusion there! lol

We have kept the sunroom open! Not many times in the year that can happen as no heat/no air makes for a very hot or cold room.

Later on we headed over to HomeGrown Tap Room. Wow it’s been a long time. Hardly anyone there. Everyone wearing masks when moving around, waitresses and waiters wearing masks, and hand sanitizer on every table. I wasn’t as impressed with the beer selections. None of my favorites were there but they did have an IPA I liked.

We didn’t really NEED food, but we had bacon pop corn. NOT your healthy pop corn here. We sure knocked it down.

We discussed Christmas plans a little bit. That is always fun. We used to budget as we had a lot to buy for. There is not as many to buy for these days so we nixed the budgeting.

Later we headed over to our dinner reservations at Hermitage Steakhouse. We were unsure how they would handle the salad bar, or if there would even be one. No one was allowed to do their own. There was one lady, wearing a mask that completed all the salad bar entries. Their salad bar keeps people coming. Well as does their steaks. I don’t think I’ve EVER had a better steak!

We swapped our anniversary cards at the table. A side perk to this is that every time, we end up getting a free dessert. It’s always fun to see if we do each year. This year was an excellent one.

I am not sure how this menu turned out so pink. I guess it was the glow of the light through the wine bottle. But look at these choices of desserts. I mean how could one decide?

It’s torture to pick from those as ALL were my favorites. George, not a big dessert person, usually lets me pick. I picked…..drum rolllllllllll……………….

Our waitress was cute and sweet. She was learning. She had never uncorked a wine bottle and George showed her how. She blocked her managers view so she wouldn’t be thought less of I guess. And when we ordered dessert, she was really pushing the chocolate cake. I ordered Bananas foster and she said “I’ve only made this once”. So I know she had hoped we ordered something else, but she did great. I wasn’t going to take a pic as I didn’t want her to feel “watched”. But George encouraged it. I missed the big flambay though by the time I actually hit the button to take the pic. You can see a little of it.

The restaurant is so nice and elegant with white table cloths. And a log cabin interior. I took pics after the people in the seats next to us left.

So you can imagine how stuffed we were? I realized later while looking at other tables, they had forgotten to bring us bread, but I was so glad they did. After all we ate yesterday and also this meal of salad, and loaded baked potato, a steak and then bananas foster which had an entire banana and 3 scoops of ice cream as well as sugar and other ingredients. Oh my gosh! But we left nada! NOTHING!

We were absolutely miserable by the time we left the restaurant and remained so through the night. We were going to watch a show but for me a food coma had set in. I went to bed. I had to eat a Rolaid at 1:30 a.m. and drink water. Wow, it was so good though. Every bit of it.

We are trying not to eat anything today until our crab boil. I think I may mix up one of my cleanse drinks. LOL

So today’s agenda:

  • Devo
  • Laundry
  • Change sheets
  • Iron
  • Work in my office which includes below
  • Carpet places research
  • Cleaning the office
  • Prepping for next Video
  • Uploading footage I did yesterday
  • Working on some projects
  • Planning
  • Telling Alexa the grocery items needed for my upcoming dishes.

So, I am cooking a couple of times next week. White chicken chili and BBQ meatloaf. So I may need a few things. I’ll have to make sure we have what I need.

I am excited to get on with our day. Hoping to get started on the next video, but I have to do a few things. One I already figured out. I figured out the subscribe button. It now displays all the way thru my videos at the bottom right hand corner. So now you can easily do this while on YouTube. But you do have to have an account. It is FREE.

The other thing is I have to redo the Intro and Outro. The audio in my current intro is not working. So I’ll have to silence the video on the intro where I introduce myself and George and the fur babes – as the audio is on the video itself. I will silent the video and then add a voice over. That will solve that. But I also want to add a quick little branding start up – I’m not even sure what you call it. They call it an intro but it’s just part of an intro. I can’t explain it but hoping I get to work on that today as well.

I better get started if I want to accomplish everything today. At least I feel great other than being overly stuffed and very WHALE like! lol

What on earth are YOU doing today? I love to hear your stories! Leave me a mini blog post in the comments below, ha! Love it.
