33 Years and Counting, Plus a Weekly Update

Today’s VLOG is much of what you are used to from me: a bit of a chat, doing things around the house, having moments with the dogs at home, but in ADDITION this week, George and I have some OUTINGS. It’s our anniversary week! So a few special touches to the video to include that in. We also have some moments on Sunday where we are trying to recoup from a bad experience we had on Sunday morning with a member of our crew. :-O. You can watch it HERE.

A little life update since my schedule is bonkers and I can’t just come and write my feelings out in the mornings anymore like I used to do daily. Here’s a few bullet points.

  • I’m training my replacement and I think it’s going well.
  • I’m having a little adjustment issue though as I normally eat at my desk at the point in which I’m hungry but by then I’m in the middle of training/talking and it seems inappropriate to just say excuse me while I bite into something/anything to keep my tummy from growling and to keep me from eating my pencil, pen, mouse or keyboard, b/c at this point I’ll eat anything, lol lol lol (I’ve taken a bite of two blueberries, train train train, take a bite of a strawberry….this trend is not working for me. lol).
  • I’m not hungry until after I get to work so to force myself to eat when I’m not hungry doesn’t seem to be doing right either, but I have to figure something out for eating as I can’t do this for forty more days.
  • I also usually stop during the day to check messages, get coffee, check the news and weather (like everyone else in the building does, but probably doesn’t admit) and feel like that would be inappropriate to do while training, lol—I miss that but have to remind myself to just be patient and this will all be over soon.
  • I love having the heater on and she is hot natured and doesn’t. So I’ve given up my heater but at least having two of us in the office I’ve not been cold but about 3 times and I just put on my sweater and have started wearing winter clothes to work even though it was 80 outside. That works.
  • I like eating lunch early at 11, and she likes eating lunch late around 1:30 – and me with no breakfast yet, has been a challenge for me. So I think we’ve kinda been meeting in the middle. Mainly as I keep asking “are you ready for lunch yet?” lol. One day, after a “not yet” I said “I’m sorry, I have to eat my sandwich though, I’m hungry”. So I did my little “take a bite talk/train for ten minutes, take another bite, talk/train for ten minutes, lol”
  • So just little adjustments as I’m not used to having someone at my side all day to consider, but I am very happy with her and the training itself is going well I think.
  • Just one more week of me being in the seat and her observing, and then we’ll switch seats and she can “drive”.
  • Normally training someone is only for 1 or 2 weeks and this is what – 3 months? lol. So a little bit of an adjustment having someone by my side for that many hours for so long in a day. I don’t think I have ever had anyone at my side like that since I had a child at home for the six weeks after birthing, lol. This cracks me up when I think about it in that light, lol.
  • Anyone reading this needs to know I’m not complaining, but this is just me observing me in my changed situation and how I’m dealing with the changes or coping. It is not disparaging to anyone – it’s just how it is. lol. So if you are taking this in a different light than how it is written then I’m glad I could set you straight, right away.
  • I’m also struggling with some other schedule changes! And trying to figure life out a bit in other areas.
  • Also after the intensity of talking for 8 hours straight, I’m exhausted and have zero creativity or brain activity when I get home. So likely the channel will suffer.
  • I also got my hair cut and I’m not loving it.
  • I also got my toes done and that was a treat and relaxing but I almost fell asleep in the chair and was a lethargic vegetable basically coming home.
  • Mom has decided NOW to start going back to church again. We’ll see what happens Sunday. She makes flip flop decisions all the time now (sell the car, don’t sell the car, getting a scooter, not getting a scooter). It just depends on what day it is. Hopefully the Sunday School class will have forgotten the comments she made about how the church spends their money, and that they pay the preachers too much. Oh my. She doesn’t even know what they make!

So that’s me this past week – just in training mode and trying to figure out the new eating schedule and being comfortable with the changes, but it’s all good. If you read all that and want to watch the video. It’s HERE. Have a good week everyone. Pray for me. I am feeling a lot squeezed right now.

I’m so glad I found your vlog and now to read your blog. I’m enjoying every minute of it. We’re in similar times of life ( I’m just older) as I commented on one of your vlogs, I feel like I have a new friend. I too gave my notice that I was retiring 3 months early. My retirement date is November 1st with my last day to work October 31st. No one to train yet and that makes me really anxious because I care about the position I’m leaving and the people I work with, but those decisions are out of my control and I’m trying really hard not to let it bother me. Don’t know why I just told you all that but thought you may understand where I’m coming from. Living in the South is truly unique and your take on life is really interesting. Keep up the good work and try not to feel too overwhelmed. Warmly, Jean

Hi Sonya great as always. You certainly had a great Saturday. Loved your trip to the Mall I’m amazed at the delicious looking meal you had only sorry the steak was not as well done as you would hope. There was so much food on your plates though I coudnt even have eaten a quarter of it. Indeed the portion size would never been on any plate we would receive over here.!! Now whilst I’m thinking of food…that funny man you live with I’m sure is the best chef ever..I think everything he made this week was fantastic good on him…also liked to hear him strumming!! You mentioned having to buy or at least update some of your IT equipment and how you should go about it.?? Well I have to update my IPad soon so I’m in the same situation. We are lucky we have a marvelous organization called WHICH that every month does research into everything from which ice cream comes up best, which supermarket comes out best. They also review regularity electrical equipment recommending as Best Buys a few weeks ago they did a very large survey of best lap tops, computers, iPads etc etc. depending on how you use them. They found and recommended the previous years models were at times better than the …new model…indeed always. So look out at the previous 1/2 models as best buys…Good Luck. We need a new lap top for church so are looking into doing exactly that..one Apple Brand was £400. Cheaper than the latest model with no difference in it….so we are going for it I think. Sorry you last your glasses…but actually I prefer the ones you had on. Your …new lost ones…were I thought to big and gave you more of an owl look…sorry ! Just me.This has gone on far to long. I had better stop. As far as work goes. Please stand up for yourself whilst teaching your ways. You eat when you want it’s up to her to fit in with you..not the other way round, Better go. Take care. God Bless.

Happy Anniversary! I enjoy seeing the shops and where you had dinner. I have always wanted to go to The Rainforest cafe. Such a neat place. Just curious once the new girl is trained, will you be moved to a different dept until you retire? Or just help her.

It makes my day when I hear from you...
