Storms, Cicadas, and Work Stuff

Good morning. I apologize for not getting an entry done mid-week like I try to do. Somehow the time got away. Plus there was not really much new to share. If you are here to get the next video link I’ll go ahead and share that HERE.
This week, I found out our new dental insurance with MetLife does not take my dentist. So either MetLife has not acted well as a provider or my provider has astronomical rates. I mean why would they not have a relationship with someone as big as Met Life? So my cleaning was to be this week and now I’ve had to find another provider, but I’m happy with the one I’ve selected (on line anyway). Seems to have a good background and also they could get me in by July. Another one couldn’t see me until November of all things. It upset me that I had to change and it caused me to spend about an hour or two getting it all sorted out with research and phone calls.
Also I’ve been thinking a lot about retirement this week as summer nears. We all know how fall is. It’s busy and then time dumps you into Christmas and the new year is here. As I have been honest with my bosses and even HR about the approximate time frame, I’m starting to get a little pressure in conversation to give a notice like 3 months early. While I like to be honest, I also feel very uncomfortable giving that much notice. I saw someone do that once and they wished they had not as some things happened that they needed their job before the time came. I was thinking more like 1.5 to 2 months 6-8 weeks. I kinda wish I hadn’t been honest and mentioned it now because then everyone tries to make you feel bad about not giving 3 months but you know me, I refuse to be pressured or guilted into doing something I don’t feel comfortable doing. It also makes you feel like they want to hurry up and get rid of you and not respect your own life’s wishes, after being there for so long. While it’s customary to give two weeks, I realize the complexity of my job will require about 4. And I’ll still be nice and give at least 6 to 8 weeks notice. That’s 1.5 to 2 months. But I think they’d be happy if I gave it right now! And I’m NOT going to do that! I’m sure everything will be fine but I’m not giving a half a year notice. lol. That’s ridiculous. I’ve not ever known anyone that gave more than a month or six weeks notice EVER in my life time of work – which mostly was in HR! Situations could change, the economy, family stuff, insurance rates, personal health issues. I don’t know what reasons might cause me to want to wait but I’ll wait until my intended time to give notice to protect myself. Because NO ONE is going to be looking out over my welfare!!!!!!
At first it made me mad to be pressured, but then I tried to put myself in their shoes. And I told myself to feel good about the fact that they realize it is a job with a lot of responsibilities and that we all have the same goal. (I think) of wanting to get the right person with the right about of skill set to be able to do the job. I’m trying not to take it personal. It’s a unique job of not only doing payroll but paying all the payroll taxes and doing returns which most companies pay ADP or some other payroll agency to do for them. So it’s unique for sure. I’m trying not to take the pressure personal but to have compassion for the reason. Payroll would go haywire and hog wild wrong if it’s not handled just right. I have a series of things that I do that secures an almost perfect payroll every time. It’s not 100% but we have few issues I think.
So that said, I’ve started taking notes and making very specific instructions about what I do each day and what to look for and in what order so it all works. I’m starting with the normal daily routines and then I’ll work my way through month end and quarter end. And I’ll get as far as time allows. I’m sort of just redoing the payroll manual. And also digitizing it as I go along.
And that was my week. This next week is a HOLIDAY week and it will be busy and also Month End again so I’ll have very little time to work on the manual until probably mid-month.
I did get some things boxed up in the last week at work – old files to make room for the new ones. There’s so many. I tried not to lift anything but it’s impossible not to lift a bit. And now I’m having extra trouble with my back and hip alignment. It’s been stiff since the surgery but this didn’t do it any favors. So I’ve not felt good the last half of the week. Also I think my Vitamin D levels are lower. I changed my supplements around and I think that I’m not getting enough Vitamin D and I have “jelly legs” as well. Last Saturday I had a horrible time with my legs and had to sit down a lot. So I upped the Vitamin D dosage this week and it’s been better but I’m still not quite right and have to figure out the supplements a bit better.
The Isagenix shakes were perfect at getting my vitamins in but they are so expensive, so I just have to figure it out.
Anyway I’m excited it’s the weekend and I have a lot planned to get done on my to do list. I’ve not had time to sort through today’s list of to do’s as we stayed up late and I slept later, but I know that cutting my hair is one of the things.
As far as Mom. I’ve prayed to God to help me with everything that Mom needs and for the timing of it all. Out of the blue I got a phone call (from an angel, lol) from a medical management case worker through her docs office that helps manage health care (esp for older people). We talked about her health and habits and such. I answered her questions as best as I know how. And she is going to try to get her on Meals on Wheels. She said she could help us get in touch with resources we need. I explained we were on the waiting list and she said she had connections and might be able to get her moved up.
I feel like I’ve not accomplished much in May, but…..we were busy with Life Group prep and Mother’s Day activities and a doc appointment or two and we had a few nights out and I had very little Saturday’s at home. So like the month of March I’ve had no choice but to give myself a break and not push to get an extra video out, or try to get anything extra done around the learning curve, or extra things done on my own personal list which aside from the actual weekly videos, just basically gets sent to the bottom behind everyone else’s needs and desires. So it keeps one from being selfish I guess, lol.
OK so if you are one that wanted to read the blog first and THEN go watch the video, here is it again. You can watch this week’s video HERE.
I’d love to know what you are doing this weekend! We are just chilling out which I very much need. I went to the store, out the blue and on a whim, after work yesterday. It THRILLED my soul and brought my morale up about 10 notches. We didn’t have a lot in the house that I like to have available since we are here for 2 of the 3 days. It was $169 but I didn’t buy much in the last two weekends so it was a much needed run. Made me happy! Have a good weekend whatever you do.

You are correct about not wanting to give 3 months notice. A friend of mine -teacher- was planning on retiring at the end of the school year. Her husband passed 3 weeks ago. It’s so hard for her to know next steps.

Yes I know. And I won’t be pushed. I have a date in mind but it could move based on our needs and in either direction- sooner or later. So we will wait til proper time. I can’t imagine training someone for three months! Good gosh no! I had two weeks with the person before me but someone else was there to answer questions when I got stuck and got me started on returns. 3 months is too long!

Well, today hubby and a friend loaded up some furniture that we are putting in storage until my daughter moves from her one bedroom apartment to a two bedroom in July. We had built-ins put in the dining room so she’s going to take our china cabinet. We also have a rocker recliner she’s going to take. There’s a chest of drawers and a short shelf thing we used as a coffee bar that she might take. What she doesn’t take we’ll give away. Sunday we’ll grill some steaks and I guess Monday we’ll just hang out. 😊 I take a 1000 iu softgel of vitamin D3 everyday. It’s been working well for me. I hope you have a great holiday weekend! Take care, Sheila Y

Sounds like a big plan on the apartment upgrade! Moving is stressful. I used to take that vitamin D and I switched my business to Melaleuca but it’s not as powerful so I’m going back. I have been taking a couple of other things that also had it in it but it’s just not working. I’ve ordered a multivitamin for 50 plus. But going back to the other D! I think I may quit melaleuca. I enjoy most of the products and American made and healthy ingredients but I think it’s making me spend more to get the free shipping and make the monthly points. If I stop taking their supplements then it’ll be hard to spend that much.

You didn’t mention Cicadas in this. Guess it’s in the video.

Yeah it was in the video which was the main reason I posted today but then I wrote additional comments since I hadn’t done a proper update this week.

As always a great vlog. Maybe you did talk to much LOL but I love hearing you talk so that’s ok by me. Oh my the sound of these …..beasties !!……can’t spell ciciidas!! I don’t think I would like them one little bit, thank goodness they are not over here. It was fun watching you shopping , I coudnt believe how lovely the beef was but such huge pieces I could never ever pay the price for so much over here…in fact I very very rarely buy a piece of steak only if it was what they call a ..Red spot….which means it should be used by the date and so it’s much reduced even then I hesitate. It’s now Sunday over here …you will still be in bed….yesterday I spent some time (after we had been out for breakfast…). wrapping up two wedding presents for a couple who are getting married in 2 weeks I’m hoping they will be at church today as I won’t see them next Sunday ((our church dosn’t meet on the 1st Sunday of the month.) it’s amazing how long it takes to wrap two small gifts. Then I had to wrap up the baby gifts ….my friends daughter had her first baby late Friday so I can take that to church as well and the new Grandma can take it to Elizabeth, Michael, and baby Lara..After all that I was able to sit out enjoying some sunshine. I had hoped today might also be nice after church to sit out but I just see that Thunder Storms are forecast for our area…but hope they will pass over without stopping over Box !! Anyway that’s it for this week Thanks again for the Vlog and CONGRATULATIONS on getting over the 500+.

Good morning- we have severe storms- 3 rounds today and a flood watch. The storms just won’t go away. The cicadas are lessening. I think they peaked last weekend. Less noise yesterday but I wish they would get on with it, bury their eggs, and die out. Carcasses are everywhere but the birds and other animals eat them I think. Wild times! That was a lot of gifts! Oh, we used to eat steak often. But it’s a rare thing now. Even roast beef. George fixed the best pork chops last night on the grill. They were about 90 cents each! Have a good day! I’m going back to sleep.

I was shocked how loud the cicadas were! I was reading about them. They drink 300 times their weight in plant sap every day. And can shoot their urine about 10 feet per second! People eat them sautéed in olive oil( no thanks). And in Chicago they put them in a mixed drink.
We haven’t seen any here. Husband said they attract copperhead snakes. So tell George to be careful while doing his yard work.
I’m so happy your retirement is near. You deserve it after all the years you have worked. I think a 2-3 weeks notice is what I would give.
We are grilling steaks this weekend. We bought ribeyes this time for today. I am grilling Paula Deens bbq chicken tomorrow.
I really wish I was at N Myrtle Beach. The water is so blue and beautiful this year. Oh well maybe next year.

Oh wow on the Cicada info! Yuk! There’s a stream near our house. I’ve only seen one snake. It was in the front yard and disappeared into no where. I suppose there was a hole in the tree or ground somewhere.
Eating cicadas would be yuk! In the Bible they ate locusts- I wonder if they are similar. And I wonder if this is a plague! (Lol)
Your cooking sounds good. I wish I was at Myrtle Beech too! Let’s go! Think they would miss us? lol I’ve never been. We almost went one year but ended up going to Destin.
