In the Kitchen | Cooking, Cleaning, Organizing

A woman with curly hair in an apron is thoughtfully holding a fork while standing in a kitchen with sizzling meat on the stove. A menu of meals is displayed on a chalkboard, including lamb chops and chicken schnitzel.

We were busy little bees this week. We got a lot done. We were productive. We ate well. Not everything was from scratch or took all day though. We make a good team pulling our household together and getting things done. And we might even enjoy it. We share our lives in the kitchen this week, whether it’s cleaning, organizing, cooking, or eating. Enjoy and you can watch it HERE.

Nice, interesting vlog. We need to do a better job menu planning and cooking at home. My husband and I are both good cooks and we like cooking (we have two kitchens in our house and a big grill, a smoker, and a Big Green Egg!). We have a lovely collection of cookbooks we always say we need to pick out recipes from and just “do it.” We’re just so busy some days and out and about and it’s easier and more convenient to eat out. We’ve reached the point where we’re tired of eating out, it’s not worth the money for mediocre food, in a busy place that isn’t necessarily relaxing, our dining room and food we make is better quality and healthier and we have a beautiful dining room, which we DO use, it’s not a holiday-only room. We just need to make it a priority. Our pantry is an ongoing organization project as well. Part of the problem is we have too much food for 2 people. We need to get in the mindset of letting Kroger be our storage! We literally have a Kroger 1 mile away. There really is no reason why we need more stock than a container or two of something. Every year I’m clearing out expired stuff because we forgot about it. The wasted money is hard to swallow, especially in today’s world. My husband and I are very much like you and George about whether to use expired products. I would just pitch, he is more “no, that’s still good…” Can’t lie, I do clean things out sometimes when he’s not here for that reason. And I agree with George…. “so long” till we see you again??!!! (Laughing here, NOT a complaint!) They blogs are nice, words from Sonja midweek, even if sometimes I can only catch up on the weekends. Your videos inspire, did a little cleaning in my kitchen today too. Have a wonderful week.

Thank you. I have a tendency to stock up in the fall – it’s always been my goal to be able to survive 2 weeks off grid. I’m nowhere near there but we get better every year. It’s very likely an ice storm could take us out for two weeks – it has before in these parts. Or a tornado. Both have. There there’s things like 2020, or some unforeseen awful event. We need more water and then the ability to have power somehow, but I keep working at it and of course George has to agree but he’s not as “prepared” as I am. We do cook a lot and turn over most of what we have. Then we buy ONLY on sale, so that keeps the cost down. And we eat on “yesterday’s prices” and dart in and out for our fresh stuff. I like to be stocked going into winter. I guess it’s our nesting instinct? lol. Instead of hunting we go freezer diving. lol

Every time you do an organization video I get inspired to do more around the house. I enjoy them so much. I looked for George’s YouTube channel for the music but couldn’t find it. I’ll try again tho. Can you show us how you store food in your big freezer. I know I saw a video where you guys were going thru it. I’d like to know if you have a system, or if you use any bins or dividers. I have the hardest time navigating thru my freezer even though I purchased some freezer bins :\ Love your content. Enjoy your week!!!

Thank you for watching the channel. George’s song is under “GW Cox” – No dots in the initials. He’s on most anywhere you download music. I don’t know that our freezer organization is great. I bought him some “containers” to put in the freezer for Christmas last year we ended up putting them in the bottom part. I can’t say they helped a lot, but maybe a little. But we try to go through the freezer about every 6 months and “turn it over” so that we make sure we know what’s in there. It’s a small deep freeze. I use the refrigerator freezer for my personal freezer things – stouffer meals, and any of my stuff I use so I don’t have to dig for it in the big freezer. We also have another fridge in the basement and that has a fridge so if we ever need space we have it. We use it at Christmas or when we have people over for sure.
