Hobby Week, Fixing Hand Fatigue, and Our First Sponsor

Finally Getting Some Down Time

George and I finally had some time off. To be honest, we had to MAKE the time, and it didn’t come by easily as it’s been very busy lately trying to get Mom’s house ready for listing. George has done all the grunt work – painting, vacuuming carpets, etc, but we earmarked one day to take as ours and we had a Hobby Day! You can watch the video here.

I’m happy to say that we also had our first sponsor, Bob and Brad. Bob and Brad YouTube channel, are the people that helped me cure my inner ear by showing the maneuver a few years ago and they have been heroes of mine since! And I’m happy to have them as my very first sponsor.

I’m very picky about what I select to show on my channel. It has to be something useful to us and something that I approve to share. And I very much approve what we did on this week’s video with Bob and Brad.

George is so taken with this Bob and Brad hand massager, that he sits with it every night while he reads. It has taken away the pain and stiffness he was experiencing when playing guitar and it’s loosening his fingers and making circulation better which allows for more fluidity when playing. He’s raving over it. I like it too. My fingers get stiff just from holding the iPad, and of course I like the massage. So yay, way to go Bob and Brad. And yay, for our first sponsored video.

There is a link with a description code in the YouTube description box below the video if you are interested.

It’s Been Crazy Busy Tho’

The schedule seemed like it was going to slow down, but life said “just kidding’ ya’ll” and we just kept going. The main culprit is getting Mom’s house listed. We have signed papers two or three times. It keeps changing b/c something else will come up, but the furniture is almost gone, and the carpets are clean and electrical work done and minor painting done. Thanks to George for putting in most of the work and I’m the one filling out the paperwork and signing the forms as Mom’s POA. I’ve been trying to get things done on YouTube, and get caught up around here, take care of Mom’s needs, her financials, and so forth.

The Latest Mom Info

Mom has lost her handicap tag and we had to go a day without it on a day where we had like 4 stops. We were lucky to find pretty close parking in most cases though. We found it later in a bag she had for the hospital. She said we had it, then said a neighbor had it, but she had it. I knew she took it from me the last outing we had.

I took her to buy bras. She decided she wants some Moo Moos – gentle soft day dresses that are cool and relaxing, but cute enough to wear to lunch or dinner, easy to get on and off. But Kohl’s does not have Moo Moo’s, lol. She always wants the hard to find items. I think with so many people being older, there should be an older person’s store that just caters to what they need. If I were rich enough we’d do it. A clothing line that caters to seniors too – cute but yet clothes that meet the needs, ya know?

So I guess I will look for some day dresses on line and also will need to buy her fall/winter PJ’s soon as she is down 2 sizes from what she has worn all these years.

And she called and her tablet has gone blank on her so we have to go buy a new tablet and she wants a new iPhone. I hope her spending curves some, so we can keep her in assisted living as long as she needs to be there. Money does not grow on trees.

The housing market is NOT a seller’s market either, just saying.

There’s also been some other issues (arguments) over cords in her apartment and we experienced a rather toddler like episode of “just do what I say” which was very discouraging as I was trying to help and make sure we bought the right cords with the right safety code. It ended up with me copying her toddler behavior and flapping my hands up and down like her and matching her angry tone and doing the same thing back as a reaction. I’m sorry, I was wired to mimic my mother – taught by the women herself, and then I realized that is not who I want to be, as funny as it seems in my head though NOW, I have to try to hold my composure next time and let her be alone in her frustration and not drag me into it. I’ve since watched several videos to help me with that as it’s just not healthy to be around the negativity. I’m trying to help but she just wants what she wants and wants it now. But she has to understand there are rules and consequences, but since she didn’t want my help she can fend for herself if they are not happy with the cords she wanted and comphiscate it. I’m personally not going to argue over it with her – they can if they don’t like what she had me order. It’s her money. Her apartment. Their rules and their property. The two can have it out.

I’ve decided also that I’m not going to be the middle ground for her in relationships anymore either. She wants me to find out how everyone is and report back and she can call herself. If she can call me, she can call them. If they won’t talk to her, that is not on me, but I’m no longer a news agency. Although I’m not required to tell her that, I have indeed told her I’m not the middle ground anymore.

She asked if I’d heard from my sister and my reply was “un-unh”. I haven’t. But that’s how she gets you. If I had, she be asking what we talked about or what’s she is up to. Then I have to carve out a response to that, b/c I am no longer open to being the information guru to feed info back and forth. And that goes both ways. I’m no longer going to be the in between unless it’s something that matters – sickness, death, or another move (if she has to go to memory care or nursing home if money runs out, etc.)

Alright. Everyone have a good week. Maybe soon I’ll be able to blog more. But I have discussed some things with the verbal option of ChatGPT, which I enjoy from time to time. Mine has an Australian male voice and has helped me out immensely lately with YouTube, avoiding scams, a TV issue, help with the Mom issue, and several other things. I like the chat version when I don’t need to see a bunch of steps. Then I don’t have to type as much. Oh and I also started up some new games. Meodowku (a cat finding puzzle game) and also Toca Boca (a decorating your home game by visiting and collecting things as you explore a growing world – and you take your friends with you so they can help you carry things). It’s the most bizarre, fun, and stupid thing I’ve done in a while. lol

It you made it to here, then here’s the YouTube link again HERE.

Loved today’s vlog & the blogs. Hope George had a Happy Birthday (and I totally get the pre-/post birthday days, isn’t that a thing for everybody??!! ) My birthday often falls on a holiday, and the “rule” is, if it does that year, I get TWO birth”days.” And, of course, it starts the weekend before regardless. 🙂

Good for you for setting some boundaries with your Mom, it’s hard to stick to them though, at least it was with me sometimes. Totally been there with the mimicing their behavior thing… yeah, not the most mature thing (talking about my own moment here, NOT yours!) but for just that few minutes, he had pushed my buttons and, well, it was what it was at the time.

Loved the time set aside to do hobbies. I need to get better at that. Liked how you organized your folders … I might borrow some of that. I have so much of that to organize, old scrapbooks to re-do, photos, papers, etc. Hope you make videos when you go through the memorabilia boxes in the future, as long as the stuff isn’t too personal. I am mired down in that right now, and will still be doing it through next year I’m sure. Each time it gets harder as the easy stuff is pretty much gone. But as time passes, a little easier too as emotions settle a bit more. But right now, there’s about …. I don’t know, 25 boxes & totes minimum, not to mention stuff just piled out right now in half-started projects and stuff I’m trying to find places to display. If I’m going to keep this stuff, I don’t want it sitting in storage boxes downstairs. It should be used and honored as a keepsake. Easier to say than do all the time.

I’ve been following Dana K. White (A Slob Comes Clean) and some of the Minimal Mom’s older videos to go through this stuff. There is a girl on TV too, I can’t remember her name but the channel is the Spacemaker Method. She’s cute and fun to watch, not quite as minimal in theory but she does a lot of small spaces so again, the questions and storage ideas are really good. My problem is I have a pretty big house with lots of closets and a big storage room! That’s how I’ve ended up as the family’s storage locker. And a hubby that isn’t as willing to let things go as I am right now. There’s a lot of compromising. I’m not minimal in any sense of the word, and some of their results are more extreme than I want to go, but I like the questions they ask that make me think about whether I really want to keep something and do I really have room. Right now, my goal for the first round is to be able to access things without having to move things around to get to it. We’re about 70% there. Once I have achieved that everywhere, then I’ll move onto to stage 2, reducing the inventory, concentrate more on what I use and what I love.

Busy week here too this week, when does the retirement “slow living” start?
    Take care!

I subscribed to the Space Maker Method. I’ll think about the other one. I just don’t have a to left that I want to declutter other than just a general annual run-thru. But the small spaces and reorganization ones are good for me. I’m not sure when slow living will come back. We are moving into our busy season of shopping, excursions, decorating, anniversary, fall trip (maybe), Thanksgiving on the ranch, and company coming for a couple of weeks in December I think, so our timeline will be moving some since they will stay with us instead of Mom. So we have to be free for them and so time line has to moved earlier two weeks ahead of normal schedule. Is there a normal retirement? I’m not sure. lol. Maybe in January we can hibernate til after Valentine’s Day. I’m personally looking forward to that. Oh and yeah, I do plan on going through ALL the memorabilia boxes in 2027 and will be filming a lot of it. Have a great week ahead. It’s supposed to be quieter here and we are supposed to take the time off- house goes on the market so we’ll see what happens with that.

It makes my day when I hear from you...
