Finding Rest amidst Fall’s Beauty

Good morning. Here’s the vlog today. You can watch it here. I’d been feeling pretty burned out and I needed a bit of rest from vlogging. I had planned everything so I wouldn’t have to vlog. I was ahead in the videos. But guess what? I couldn’t do it. I picked up the camera and well, here I am. It’s shorter than normal. It captures some moments of rest and down time. It also shows our trip to Green Hills Mall. There’s a mask talk, lol. I also show a gift I put together for my friend and just random clips of what we have been doing.

Yesterday was a fabulous day. We finally joined Costco and set BJ’s so it would not renew for the next year. So I filmed some yesterday and got clips of our “haul”. We ran a lot of other errands before hand and had lunch at Oscar’s Taco. We arrived home before the afternoon turned angry with storms nearby. It never got bad at our house. I watched Ryan Hall Ya’ll the rest of the evening and played Candy Crush, while exhausted from the day.

Do you have a Costco Membership? IS there one near YOU?

We spent a LOT at Costco. I think it was $589 but we also spent $130 or $135 (I forget) separately for the annual membership, which came with perks that we thought we might can use, including the longer hours. A lot of what we bought though was for Christmas. I’d say we spent $250 or more for Christmas. The rest was spent buying A LOT of stuff. We bought meats, canned goods (beans, diced tomatoes), huge thing of olive oil, 3 bottles of wine, George bought a huge box of German style beer, we got a huge box of classic k-cups, a huge jar of salsa, huge thing of peppercorns, more Italian organic spaghetti than we can eat in a lifetime, lol. I bought almond flour tortillas, that you keep in the fridge. I plan to try these with the sandwich meat and cheese and make a roll up. We bought a rotisserie chicken for $4.99, lol. wow. And it was good too. We had it for dinner. Bought 2 HUGE things of peanut butter, huge bag of sweet potatoes for $5.99, and 2 big things of spicy vodka sauce to try. We bought twice the amount of fresh tomatoes for the same price we buy at Publix and Kroger. And we bought a 3 pizza kit which is a sourdough starter kit including crust, sauce, and it was like $5.99 or so. We will add the toppings. We bought Wagyu beef waaaaaaaay cheaper. We splurged and bought 2 roasts which ended up being $21 a piece because we love them so and look forward to having it a couple of times in the winter. We got lbs of ham. and 2 big blocks of cheese. Butter was about half price of what we normally buy per box but you buy in bulk, so we are stocked up. Also the Palmetto pimiento cheese we like, you get twice the amount for the same price.

George said we were going to have to rethink how we shop because not only do we save $ in the long run, but since we are executive members, we get 2% back at the end of the year. I imagine we will get our fresh veggies from Sprouts when we can. Then we will do most of our grocery shopping at Costco. I had figured Costco would be a monthly stop. However, I think we may shop there for most of our shopping needs. They are so close, and we are retired and can avoid the weekends.

Today I have a lot to do. Since the Costco Haul was pretty short I plan to continue the vlog today and capture a few more clips. I don’t want the video to be too long, because now I have to stop and work on vlogmas, get ready for Christmas, and get ready to see family.

Today my to do list includes:

  • Promoting the vlog
  • Laundry – 2 loads (the week starts over, lol)
  • Find pork chop recipe that Phil Rosenberg suggested from Somebody Feed Phil
  • Do World Bible School
  • Do my devo
  • Book Dexter for his doggy daycare
  • Vacuum using the little (less loud) vacuum as he’s shedding badly
  • Fix a pot of chili
  • Make the easy bread recipe I’ve been wanting to make (we bought a lot of sandwich meat and Swiss cheese yesterday).
  • Clean off the front door camera as it’s smudgy
  • Mark off some presents as “marked” on the Christmas gift list
  • Order some gifts for George’s Christmas – just little ones as he has the guitar and several things for himself already
  • Sign into my OLD blog network so I don’t lose it. I try to log in every 3 months.
  • Plan next week (plan YouTube to do’s around life so it all gets done)
  • Write a plan to finish Christmas (lists, deadlines, so I can make sure I’m on track)
  • Decide when I need to order dog food again and how much before we put them in boarding
  • Do a thumbnail for Chattanooga video which is already edited for next week
  • Wrap a few gifts and record it for vlogmas
  • Read, puzzle, watch vlogs
  • Check on Mom
  • Check on my sister

And that’s enough to keep me busy don’t you think?

Ok we are caught up! I’m going to get started on the day. I hope you all are having a great day. Here’s the video link if you need it again. You can watch it HERE.

Watched the video this morning and subscribed to the blog as requested, hope you get to that 1000 mark!! Love starting my Saturdays with you… although maybe I don’t qualify for superfan as no, I don’t get up at 7 to watch it. Like a good wine, I prefer to let it air a little…. than I enjoy with my tea. Were those headstones I saw in the trees in the shots with the deer at the beginning? Is that near your house? Lucky you if so! I’m a genealogist and have always thought I’d love to have a little, old family cemetery on my property. Doesn’t have to be my family, I’d have to research them, and then adopt them! We also love Port Protection and we watched the original Life Below Zero series too, not as jazzed or regular with the later spin-offs, I think the original ended last year. I think you’re right about the Italians not putting so many chemicals in their products. I’ve had people who are French and German tell me the same thing. And they say basic products cost a lot less over there than they do here too. We’re going to Germany and I plan on visiting their version of a drug store and purchasing some things to bring home and try as my souvenirs. I’m still settling into retirement and trying to figure out how to not let my To-do list rule me but it’s soooo hard! I have so much I want to get done, trying to do “slow living” but I need to get better at making time for me. My husband is retiring at the end of December although he is off a lot now to use up his PTO. I think he has about 10 actual “work days” left. We have a big, bucket list trip planned in December so I’m getting us ready for that too. And we’re hosting family for both holidays through to the new year. Slow living might have to wait till Jan. How I did ever have time to work?? Hope you guys have a great week. (Love Maddie and Dexter too, always enjoy seeing them.)

It makes my day when I hear from you...
