A Week in Retirement: Busy Days and Fun Moments

A woman smiles at the camera while sitting at a table with a binder, surrounded by a bright indoor space. Text overlay reads 'SPEND THE WEEK WITH ME IN RETIREMENT' along with bullet points for 'SHOPPING HAUL', 'INSURANCE ISSUES', and 'PROJECTS'.

Spend the week with me. It was a good week, but last week’s busy week, plus editing this video nearly sent me over the edge. I had over 2 hours of footage. I had no idea. I weaseled at it and got it down to under an hour. Was not easy and took forever. To cut anything else out of it, would have detracted from the video I think. So enjoy a good detailed one. There is without a doubt some funny stuff in there – so enjoy Hubby George’s butt dial, lol. You can watch it HERE.

Update

This week has been one of the busiest since retirement, except for Christmas week. Something like this:

Monday – Took Mom to lunch for Mother’s Day (early) at Demo’s “Steak and Spaghetti house” and then to Lowe’s to get a fountain, which they didn’t have. Started filming my going through the basement for the next video. I was on my feet most all day.

Tuesday – Maddie had her trim. Went to the store for a few things. Then back to pick up Maddie. Filmed another round in the basement. I fixed meatloaf for dinner.

Wednesday – Got up and vacuumed the entire top floor of the house. Moved the sunroom furniture around and vacuumed behind everything and in the crevices. Actually rearranged the sunroom completely and love it! But it was a lot of work. Met a friend for lunch from my Sunday School class. Filmed another round in the basement. I had a few pains in my colon in the afternoon and evening and I determined that it was my body telling me to rest because once I did, I had no more pain. Seemed to have nothing to do with food. Could it be possible that diverticulitis like pain is just our bodies telling us to slow it down (???).

Thursday – We had an appointment with the Honda dealership for my oil change. I went with George as we were doing several things and running errands. However, we only went to Good Will and went home. I didn’t realize the “line up” of errand running had changed or I would not have gone, lol. I thought we were going to Aldi and to Houston’s to fill up the freezer with meat as we are getting low, but because my SS check didn’t show (I think he got the timing of it wrong as it’s next week when it comes), George said we should wait for any non essential expenses. But on the bright side I finished a short book called The Sublet, by Greer Hendricks while waiting for the oil change. Once home, I video’d again another segment in the basement. It stormed and hailed but I was already in the basement anyway, lol. Once the storm was over we went to the Greek place and got a gyro platter. George wanted to take me for my own Mother’s Day b/c he knew I’d been wanting Greek. I was fine with the earlier Demo’s being my Mom’s day meal too but that was nice that he supported one for me as well. Katy sent me a mouse pad with the kids pics on it for Mother’s Day which I’m grateful for and am using it now. I was happy my Mac mouse works on it.

Friday – George and I went yard “sailing” and I bought a few things, which will be in an upcoming video (same as the working in the basement video). As well, I video’d in the basement. My goal was 5 days in the basement, to video. So that was completed, but I still have many projects down there, as I was just getting started, but alas it has started. Have wanted to do that for probably about 3 to 4 years, even before the parent moved up here, but there was never time.

I did all of the above in addition to reading a chapter in the Heaven book each day (my current devo book), and in doing World Bible School (grading tests, answering email messages from students, and adopting more daily), and house work chores as assigned (by me in my to do list), doing Mom’s bills as needed, laundry, YouTube, and pet duty. And finally getting the insurance settled!

So yes, it was a hairy busy week.

Next Week’s Outlook

Today is Saturday and the day I plan next week’s busy week. lol. I think it’s going to be just as busy. Mom has a dentist appointment, we have to get her a big grocery run in as her sister is coming up for a couple of weeks, and I’m having lunch with a friend from church and possibly a previous coworker/boss from my job on another day. I’m also trying to film my exercise routine after a couple of fairly unsuccessful weeks of trying to do it. Because when the day gets busy a lot of times it is the exercise that I tend to let go of. Most of our outings were in the morning and that is when I like to do my exercising. So when we got back home I set into all the things and exercise was not one because I didn’t want to be all sweaty when doing my videoing and I was already dressed for the day. So I don’t know how next week is going to go but I had planned to video it so I will. And I’ll have to video it whenever I can but some mornings are going to be busy sooooo..that’s just how it goes. I’ll force it to work. The days I did do the exercise routines, it felt so good and it was not too hard for my body. And what I want to do with the video is to encourage people to build a routine of their own that suits their age and any disabilities to keep things strong (muscle and movement) and to improve stamina.

Thanks for following me along and for watching the videos and also reading the blog. It means a lot to me. And if you read this far and want to watch the video you can watch it HERE.
