Mom finally agreed to go the Doc, the Future Remains Uncertain

Well, Mom finally agreed to go to the doc for help. We decided to try Care Now mainly b/c it’s hard to get in quickly to see your primary care doctor anymore these days. And this Care Now is associated with Tri-Star which already has all Mom’s meds and so forth.
So we waited at Mom’s for our “Next Available” appointment. I had to leave work and get to her house before asking for the next available appointment so I could make sure we had time to get there. I think it was about 6:00 when they finally sent us the text. It took 15 to 20 minutes to get Mom to the car and inside it. She is walking with two canes very slowly and both her ankle and her knee was hurting.
So what happened is the gout that started in her toe, went to her ankle and then also began crystalizing in her knee. So they gave her steroids to help with the inflammation and because of her blood thinners, they have to be picky about what they give her. I have to make a follow up appt with her primary care for ongoing care and prevention. She doesn’t want to take the prevention meds because of the side effects. But at this point, I’m thinking she best take it so that she is not in this pain and risk the other side effects. She does not have quality of life if she is totally immobilized. Being immobilized also will get her in a nursing home of some type, possibly even skipping assisted living all together – unless there is some type of advanced level. Because I think with the main assisted living care you have to be able to get dressed and to the table to eat and currently she is having a lot of issues doing just that. So her ability to take the meds and take care of herself, will ultimately determine her fate as far as where she lives in the upcoming days. If I was her, I’d seek very heavily to get this in control and take the meds!
Anyway, I was out til after 9 last night. We went through Chic Fil A drive through and ate in a nearby parking lot as we were both starved at 8 p.m. last night. I then raced over to Publix to get her prescription for the steroid. I was very happy not to have to miss 4 hours of work this morning just to get that and get it to her. But we barely made it over before they closed the Pharmacy. It was a very long day. And then didn’t get in bed until 10 because of explaining to George what the doc said and then getting ready for bed.
So I didn’t get anything done last night. But I sure did sleep good. I guess over the next week or so, we’ll see if this gets any better. If not I’ll probably be contacting that “find a place for Mom” site and I guess we’ll have to get her house up for sale. Because she can’t just sit and rot in her recliner over there. So for her sake, I hope the meds work and she can get this under control before it just paralyzes her whole body. She’s almost there now.

Oh dear Sonya, I’m so sorry that you had yet another long day with Mums ailments taking over your day. But pleased that she agreed to get help. Just hope she does take the Steroids they should help. But if not it’s definitely the time to start talking about her future. Take care love, hope you have had a good sleep and that work will go to plan today. God Bless xx

Oh my. After all the work you and George put in that place. Hanging things, moving things, appliances, packing unpacking. May the Lord be with you.

Yes I know. I knew this wouldn’t last long. Hopefully she will take the meds or this can clear up because it’s really immobilized her currently.

It’s a start. Thank goodness she went to Clinic. I hope the med works. I know you all have worked so hard getting her moved and helping her. She has suffered too long with her foot. It’s scary how one day you will be fine and the next in excruciating pain. Our bodies just wear out. I wonder sometimes if everybody has pain when they get up in the mornings. I feel so stiff and achy when I wake up.

I’ve cut back on added sugars. I still eat some starches like potatoes and pasta but I feel so much better and not as tired. It’s amazing enough that I think twice about having dessert now. It’s easier to say no. I’ve also cut back on white breads. I’ll eat a wrap over a sandwich with bread. Also whole grain is what I’m eating if I want bread. That seems to help a lot if you want to try that.
