Early Retirement: Insurance Shopping and Movie Watching

Couple sitting on a recliner covered with a blanket watching a TV documentary titled Life on the Hill: The Sheep Story

Wednesday, May 27

It’s kinda the last quiet day before the storm. Monday and Tuesday I spent working on video editing, working on laundry, working on the house. But we did get out and go to see the Sheep Detective Movie at the Roxy – in the reclining chairs on Tuesday (matinee day). Absolutely loved the movie. When it ended we were both crying and then that made me burst out laughing that we are crying at a sheep movie – sheep that could talk and actually solved a murder mystery. I absolutely fell in love with the sheep and I’m going to miss them. It was a story very well done. You must see it.

So, today, we got up and headed out to get my insurance for the next year and a half til I turn 65. As my Cobra ends June 30. There’s an agency that we went to, to help us shop around. We took her my current insurance coverage and she found a plan with United Health Care. I had to answer some questions. Because I’m overweight the plan is going to cost me a couple hundred more per month than if I was not overweight – but still it is under $1000 a month, so that is about what we were anticipating. But I went with a 70/30 plan that still had copays, and a decent out of pocket max.

We brought up dental insurance also and I wanted to remain covered under a dental plan but she forgot to give it to us after doing the health insurance so I had to call her back and she is emailing it. I think I really need to have that as well b/c of the possibility of having to have a crown or worse, and also so that I don’t have any problems getting coverage in the future and then having a waiting period before they will cover anything. I’m not sure how that works under medicare but think it’s best to go ahead and get dental also. So we’ll have to see what she emails us. But at least that is done. I am approved but we don’t actually have to sign up until next week, and we’ll have to give my first month payment for July 1.

I’m just glad that we didn’t have to do the shopping ourselves. This was quick and easy having a broker handle it and give you some options. Very grateful for that. And I’m glad that it’s not going over $1000. That alone is still ridiculous but unfortunately necessary.

This will likely be my only blog entry for a little while. I will still try to upload the link to the video Saturday morning but we are booked crazy solid from tomorrow through at least next Wednesday or Thursday. We have packing at Mom’s, a wedding, more packing at Mom’s, Mom’s move, in addition to taking care of our own things here at home. So I am having to reduce my activities and let go of some of my normal routines and activities.

I’m a little worried about having so many days in a row scheduled being out and about and not having much time at home. Although some of the activities will be fun, it will be a long stretch for an introverted person like me who loves her routines and doesn’t like to be off it much. So pray for me there, lol.

We are going out to dinner with friends tonight. I’m looking forward to that. My video for this Saturday is uploading currently and I will need to do the thumbnail and description but will have to do it in the evenings as my upcoming days, as mentioned are all booked. I will be vlogging Mom’s move though – I will see if it will be packing and then a moving video or just all in one. It depends on how much I can vlog I guess. Or what kind of mood I’m in.

Ok I will see you as soon as I can Saturday to give you a post here on the video, but….I am thinking it may not be on time. I will be with Mom at breakfast then and it may be hard to get the link out until later in the morning Saturday. Take care ya’ll and I’ll see you when I am free to return. I’m not waiting til Friday to post because it may not get posted if I do.

Hello friend! I know exactly what you mean about leaving your routine for so many activities/obligations! I feel the same way. I have a wedding in two weeks it’s in Montana and although I’m excited to travel and experience that Montana, it’s a long way from Miami. I’ve been mentally preparing for this since December 2025 lol…Good luck with the move and all you have going I’ll be praying and sending you good vibes from the sunshine state…

Please don’t let these busy days ahead stress you out. Once your mom is settled, perhaps things will slow down. I am glad you are standing your ground about not moving items. As much as you love your mom, I am sure you have had many instances in your life when you didn’t stand up for yourself. You are doing everything you can to take care of her. Make sure you are also taking care of Sonya.

Once she’s settled we get ready for estate sale and sell the house but at least maybe there will be less stress. It’ll take a month to get her settled or longer. So I’ll be juggling her needs and trying to deal with house. She will have me shopping all over Mount Juliet redecorating lol! 😂

It makes my day when I hear from you...
