My Experience Buying from Amazon Third Party Sellers, and Reading the Time Bandit

The sunsets have been wonderful on the drive to work in the mornings. And the deer greet us home in the evenings.

Third Party Amazon Sellers

I guess I had my first experience returning something from a third party seller via Amazon. It opened my eyes to be more careful of what I buy through Amazon. I had my normal expectations of having the assurance that you can return something whatever it is. I return a very small percentage of what I buy through Amazon. Mostly due to the faults of not being able to see or feel in person what you are buying. Usually it is something that does not fit, does not work, or product damaged via shipment. And I buy a lot on Amazon. So I have high expectations that if something goes wrong that is not my fault, I have Amazon to back me. In all these years I have had quick and easy returns. But that is a false sense of security. As it is not always so.

I bought a picture that looked like this:

It came in rolled up in a tube and looked like this.

So, yeah it’s just so muted (and curly) with lines in it. See below.

So I thought no problem, I’ll just go to Amazon and return it – click of a button- get my label and off it’ll go and we’ll get a return for it.

Not that easy. To my surprise I had to submit a request for approval to return. What? No.

So I did. The sellers were in China, of all things. I should and did know that once my order was placed and I saw the ship date go from “Thursday to some date in November” LOL. However, I guess that put it on a fast boat and it got here in about 2.5 weeks.

So I waited and got a response back from seller to send photos of the item. What???? So I did. I was nice and said I appreciated them letting me return the item as it just was not going to work. (Letting them know my expectations nicely- if they read b/w the lines they’d know someone was going to have a fight before the week was over if the answer was no – so I let them know I was expecting a return. But I had a feeling in the pit of my stomach that I had been HooDoo’d. (We’ll come back around to that one later.)

So…the 3rd party seller in China said “Since this involves international shipping, how about we compromise with 50% dollars?”

While this is not ideal, I realize the shipping costs on their side has now probably surpassed the value of the item. I discussed with George and because (I guess) we get to keep the item (I’m not sending it back without a label anyway.) So George says he likes it and it will take it and so now he has it for half price.

But I have learned a lesson.

I‘m not ordering from 3rd party sellers from overseas unless I’m certain it’s something that will work or I’m willing to EAT the $money over.

I’ll be likely to change my selection when my order turns from arriving Thursday to a month from now. That is trickery in my opinion.

Something that does not have reviews, could likely be suspect. Just order something with reviews. Previous customers can give you great insight.

I will be more selective and yes, quite picky now. As if I weren’t before.

Getting HooDoo’d

So…..I guess I’ve heard my family say this over and over. “I guess I got HooDoo’d”. I took it to mean that someone pulled one over you. And well yeah, it pretty much does. After looking it up on line. Sometimes I use words and because I’m typing them out for the public to see (and make fun of as some like to do) so I thought I’d make sure it really does mean what I thought it did. After all in my 20’s at work I repeated a phrase my grandfather used and found out it was something someone took offense to and I had to say I was sorry as I was repeating verbiage and didn’t really know what it meant. Goes to show you – not to say bad things as it will be repeated even innocently. Like we have people out there today that worry about such things, what am I saying? Well I do worry about such things.

So, yeah, it means bad luck and it kinda comes from the VooDoo phrase which I didn’t know. I thought it was spelled “Who Do’ed” as in Who Did it – as in Someone – Who ever it was – Done Did it to me”. lol lol lol. But it’s Hoo Doo as in Bad luck or bad charms or bad spells, to bewitch. So yeah, bottom line….

Sonya got HooDoo’d by Amazon and this Third Party Seller. So scrutiny will follow every purchase now. I’m not viciously angry over this situation but I’m enlightened and miffed. And no longer as trusting. So there you have it.

So I had tuna for lunch. Trying to lose some belly fat! ha. Our recent outings of late has done some backward damage! Scaling it back some. I’d not had tuna in a while and it was really good. Back to using a honey dijon mustard instead of mayo. But as always on the home front, there is something good cooking up!

George made a potato omelette that was out of this world! Oh my gosh it was so good. Lately his dishes – I’ve been saying “oh this is a keeper” or “We should have this at Christmas” or “fix this for Katy” or “Let’s eat this one with the Irelands (long time friends)”!

Wow, it’s 49 degrees F this morning. Fall is here!

It’s Wednesday and the payroll went smoothly, well almost, I was a little late getting started as I had some last minute intakes that I had to stop and figure on before I could get started, but I was able to finish in time so that I had time to do my “after payroll shakedown” instead of throwing it all in a drawer and going home and dealing with it til Wednesday. Now all the payroll stuff is put up and reports sent that everyone needs from it. Now I will sort our local plant’s checks, do “dummy checks” or manual checks, and get reconciled for my garnishment check run in the morning. And will get our 941 taxes paid and weekly withholding taxes paid for the week.

Reading, My Way of Being on the Water

Last night I read more in my book, TIME BANDIT. I’ve not really given myself much time for reading, just audio books in the car. But it was nice to let everything go and just plain read. I love reading books about being on the ocean. Being on the Bering Sea would scare the life out of me. The book is interesting. The cost of running these fishing trips is insane. The crew makes a lot of money though in a short amount of time and it’s hard to get “the crazy” people who will be able to endure it and can take it to work on the boat.

A little Google research showed the Hillstrand’s sold the boat for 3 million – if that is accurate research. Why not sell at that rate? lol.

I watched Deadliest Catch a lot. Most of the episodes were about the same. I found that it was relaxing of all things to watch (not sure why- maybe the sound of the sea?) and I’d fall asleep. George seemed to only endure it and didn’t prefer to watch it, it seemed so we didn’t keep up with it season to season. But I do like reading about the business aspect of the fishing industry and all about running the boat itself. I’m not sure why I’m always about everything “ocean” and “boats”. I guess it is in my blood somehow. I DID have an uncle that was a captain on a ship for years. But I wasn’t around him much and didn’t hear about his experiences. If I were going to be on the boat, I’d be the cook – lol. That is about all I could do on that boat. But I’d be too sea sick and scared. I’d be a weini! No way. Just reading about the wave size in unreal!

Anyway, that is all the news I have. I need to get kicking here as I’m about 15 minutes late and have to make up the time somehow.

Since I stopped to read last night I didn’t finish the iMovie. I want to look up how to do the end of the movie – and see how to link prior videos to it. I always try to learn something new with each imovie if I can – in these early days! I think I have enough for another movie after that. Then I’ll need to start videoing some more. Not a lot going on to video! But I can always step up the game and just video something I’m doing around the house. About every 3 weeks seems to be about how I’m getting them out. I’d love to be able to do one a week but I think that is likely impossible with working Full time. Two I may be able to do once I’m in the groove. But it depends on how busy we are and such. I’m afraid to commit to certain dates like every third Thursday, lol. I think that would take the fun out of it for me.

Ok off to work we go!

Eating Out During Covid, and Working on the next Vlog Video

Famous Dave’s, Almost Empty

We had a fine and dandy weekend. Never long enough. I didn’t get in as much housework as I intended. But I did get the fall clothes tubs up from the basement. I had my winter jammies, scarves, winter purses, and some sweatshirts down there. I also got rid of two sacks of clothes for donation. And everything organized. Laundry was done and ironing complete. But I could use another day to finish working on the house. I’d take a PTO day but I have to save them for flooring days and also for January.

We were able to go out to eat Saturday night at Famous Dave’s. We got the meal for two that comes on a Trash Can Lid.

My favorite was the chicken and the ribs. Brisket not bad but as far as tender and flavor – the first two get my vote. Hard to decide between the ribs and chicken because their chicken was just absolutely delish.

Here he is, Mr. George, about to dig in.

Famous Daves went over and above on the duties to protect employees and customers. First of all since we’ve been there, some paint and flooring have been added and it gives the place a brighter and cleaner look. But besides decor, they took our temp at the door. They set everyone apart. They asked that you wear your mask when entering and standing and. moving about. Despite the efforts there was hardly anyone there. Of course we ate earlier than the normal crowd but still at around 5 minimal people were entering the restaurant. It was so good and it was a fast meal! The order came quick.

And George wanted to settle a tip situation at Hermitage Steak House. They had not put the tip through. So George took them cash to cover it. The manager was so nice. While there Saturday to settle up (before we went to Famous Dave’s) we booked Brunch for the next day. What???? We hardly ever do brunch out anywhere, but you know breakfast is one of my favorite meals! We usually eat our big meals at the end of the day, thus the almost impossible task of losing weight made that much harder. But we had a Noon meal. Again, hardly any folks there. But it was wonderful.

Of course, I’m there with no makeup on as I’m not wearing makeup under these dang masks. People will just have to be scared, not sorry. LOL

Since it was Brunch. I made it true to the word and got the salad bar with it. (They fix it from a check list).

Smoked Salmon Eggs Benedict

Oh my heaven do you know how wonderful this Eggs Benedict was with the smoked salmon?

I just love this place!

After that we went to Kroger and bought a few needs of things we ran out of or were making dishes with this week and then our dog food that we buy.

This was hilarious. Those don’t look like strawberries. And even funnier it’s on a tomato box.

George made some Rosemary Olive Oil yesterday and I worked on the next iMovie.

So I worked on this most all of yesterday because I wanted to! I’m happy to say that it is ALL complete except one part at the end – my OUTRO and then doing the thumbnail. So this will be up before the week is out Lord Willing.

I still have a LOT of little details that I wanted to do this weekend that remain “undone” so I’ll work this week after work trying to get those things done.

I’m feeling a little pinched on all sides as it is quarter end, we have plans for the next two weekends, it’s getting near time to start getting ready for the holidays, we still have the flooring issue to settle, pick out, and schedule. And I agreed for us to host that One Chip contest. Ahhhh! Anyway, it’ll all work out. I will get done what I can get done with the time I have and what doesn’t get done will sit there rot til I get to it, eh?

Well, ya’ll have a good week ahead. I’ll be trying to keep my head above the water! And here comes some cooler temps – at least I hear it is. I’ve not really had time to watch the weather or the news.

Take care!

One Chip Challenge, Ipad Update, and Canva App

Good morning! It was a pretty one coming out of the neighborhood yesterday. The sun beginning to rise through the clouds. Friday was an alright day I suppose. I was able to eventually make progress on month end taxes due and quarter end as well. A few interruptions but was able to pull through. I learned a few things too when I had to do something I’d not done before. So that was a big win for me. The day passed pretty quickly. About 2:30 I was really mind weary but a cup of coffee and an e+shot got me to my 2nd wind.

At home George and I had a relaxing night, walking the dogs. I caught up on some YouTubers and George caught up on computer things. Then he fixed corn bread to go with the leftover white bean chili. It was so good. We went to watch Yellowstone and discovered that PEACOCK channel had tricked us. It had showed that the Yellowstone was FREE but after we watched one and got hooked, it then said we had to pay. It made me so mad that I’m likely going to delete PEACOCK. We are not paying for another subscription as we’ve not watched what we want to see on Netflix yet. And honestly I’m starting to think we need to just drop cable TV since we have a smart TV and mainly watch the apps anyway. I just want to be able to get the local channels for the news but I think now you can get that on line anyway. I guess we are old school and it is scary to let go of what we are used to. But truth be known we are paying for a triple play and I think we are not using two of the three items very much.

George sent me a pic of his new office set up in the Warehouse at the property he works with. I have never seen so many monitors.

He and a coworker painted it this week and moved in. He’s no longer in the offices but in the warehouse so he can work with the people he is mainly ordering the parts for in the mine. He works for a large world wide mining company of zinc.

So I had to tease him b/c the right screen on the laptop shows someone from the office saying “Come Back”. I told him “Wow 4 screens and one screen just for communications with his #1 fan club”. LOL

Paqui One Chip Challenge

So blog readers are asking about the Paqui One Chip Challenge. A chip so hot it comes in a coffin.

This one is on Ebay. Apparently people buy them from the company every year and resell them on ebay. George knows someone that bought and paid $75 for one tortilla chip. So now I think you can only buy ONE from the company. George and his friends each bought one. George’s hasn’t come in yet. It has Scorpion Chili Pepper in it.

So George and his buddies want to get together and do this. I’ve told him we can do it at our house which is kindof in the middle if he wants to invite everyone here. So whether it happens or not, who knows. George wants me to video it if we do.

There are numerous One Chip Challenges on You Tube. The Redneck one is pretty funny, and one with a news anchor – but the Redneck had too much cursing so I wouldn’t repost it. This one was pretty funny. Apparently it is about 6 minutes of hell in which you finally feel like you are going to die. I don’t really see why anyone would want to put themselves through such agony but I guess they want to see who reacts the least? And that makes for the toughest male? Oops I forgot there is one woman doing the challenge.

My chest and stomach is burning from just watching it!

On my end, the challenge is about how many subscribers can I get, LOL LOL LOL! So hopefully I’ll get to share.

Home Screen: IOS 14 Update to iPad

Here’s my Home Screen after doing my little update and decor. Here’s my thoughts, some are repeating from an earlier post.

  1. You can’t move the widgets around on your ipad, other than that left area of your screen. That needs to be improved!
  2. You have to use the area to the left (swiping right) and put in jiggle mode and hit “keep as home screen” and then hit the “+” sign and it will allow you add widgets
  3. I downloaded “Colorwidget app” and “WidgetSmith” apps.
  4. You can’t use your “Larger Icons” mode and be able to use the widget area as your home screen. I had to switch that mode to the regular size apps before it would let me. I discovered this early on quite by accident.
  5. If you group apps together it’s quite small. I wish they would allow groupings and it be bigger on the ipad.
  6. So because of #5 I had to take all my apps out of the group as it was hard to see them and find them since they were not in large mode.
  7. It was a good time to delete all the apps I don’t use.
  8. I intend on setting up just a “game page” with all the B games I don’t play much. The A game, Candy Crush is on the first page, LOL.

I reset it so all my favorite apps are on the front page. The next page has all the others and there is a third page. But hopefully a future update will provide more for us. It makes me wonder why. Perhaps there is something greater and different coming for the iPad in a future rollout?

Free Background / Canva App

Here is a background I used if you want to use it for your iPhone or iPad. I downloaded it from Canva. I encourage you to download Canva app if you haven’t already. You can do Canva for free. Either an app or on line. There are a lot of free photos. Yes it can be aggravating though b/c you’ll see one you really want and it’ll be premium only! Ha! I had Canva free for like two years before I finally said enough and paid the premium. The ability to lose the background sent me over the edge and I had to have that function. I have enough reason now with so many different uses for it. (Blog, Vlog, phone decor, and more.). It’s one of the things I gave up doing my nails professionally for. I always felt guilty paying a subscription for something. But I wanted this app so badly. Now I use it several times a week and sometimes every day!

I had mentioned before that you can make your own backgrounds easily with your phone camera. Just start noticing textures, patterns, and start taking pics. Get creative. Canva also has all sorts of designs to add to your photos and you can layer them on and create graphics as well.

Weekend Outlook

So anyway on to today. Sleep was excellent last night – a full 8 hours sleep with only one wake up. It was great and I feel great. If only I could sleep those additional hours from 4 to 6 every day. I really need those hours daily now but can’t have them.

Much to do today. House cleaning – surfaces, floors, linens changed, clothes washing, giving George a hair cut, returning Amazon purchase, sending a get well card to someone, checking on Mom, emptying trash cans, taking care of doggies, and hopefully working on getting some things accomplished for the next video. I’m itching to do this!

We are going out to eat tonight. We are going to stop at the Hermitage Steak House and check on our tip we left. They did not charge us the tip we left. He also left an additional cash tip that was small as he decided to up it in addition to what we left on the card. Our waitress was new but was so good and was so nice and trying so hard. We want to go buy and make sure we settle the tip for her. We are going early so if they have a table, we are going to eat there again b/c it was so good! We decided to leave it up to chance. If they don’t have a table then we will go somewhere else and we have a whole list in that area that we decided we’d be happy to go too. I suggested that we try to go out to eat about every Friday night or every other so we can begin getting around to all the places we have missed.

So I’m going to get off of here and get another cup of coffee and then get started on my Saturday.

What are your plans for the day?
