Graham, TX Shopping Extras and Mid-Week Update

Here’s a few extra pics from our shopping day in Graham, taken with the new camera. I took some pics on the square that day. We usually go and park somewhere on the square and walk around and shop. There are not a LOT of shops to go in on the square so it goes pretty quickly. But we had also made a few other stops in various places in the city of Graham, including a tea shop. It always makes for a fun and favored day and only about – 30 to 40 minutes away from Breckenridge, as my memory recalls. The town is bigger than Breckenridge and has a lot more restaurants and also a few chains for shopping and eating if you are looking for those.

I’m always excited for the Graham shopping day. I love the little stores that are NOT chains. The people are so nice and friendly as well. And the clothes- well I always find clothes and jewelry. And the earrings in Texas are BIG. I buy them, come back home, and I’m afraid to wear them lol. See the pic below? You can see an earring selection there.

On the way back from Graham I used a function on my camera that captures movement. Worked pretty good I guess. I got the cow! lol

And a building! Although this one is blurry.

We enjoyed our day in Graham. I have another post here from a couple of weeks ago of our day in Graham. Those included my iphone shots while were on vacay. These are from the new camera, transferred over this weekend. Still getting used to the new camera and how it works. I always have the iphone with me and have to “plan” to carry the camera but I do love it and will learn more and more as I have time. There is always a problem with “time”. But it’s like a house, if you have more time you simply fill it. And that we do.

Notes from the Week:

It’s been very busy trying to keep up with things at work. So many things going awry. You fix one thing and then something else happens. Certainly about one show away from being a full blown zoo right now. lol Just lots of factors playing in to it. But yesterday I was sailing along with payroll and decided to go grab lunch as I was making good time. I really meant to go get gas in the car so I’d not have to after work but I was hungry from not having breakfast so I shamefully went through and got a quarter pounder from McDonald’s and a cup of coffee, since our office Keurig played out. This “Primadonna” (those of us that use the keurig, as restated from one of our leaders, lol) needed some good tasting coffee and McDonald’s does a pretty good job. But I said no to the fries. I got back to work and parked under a shade tree and ate the burger, got to my desk afterwards are realized several things.

  1. I forgot to get gas. Should have done that first.
  2. I was now scheduled for a 3 p.m. impromptu meeting so had I known I wouldn’t have taken lunch
  3. I had an email full of issues again
  4. The phone was ringing with a call that a plant forgot to turn in someone’s time. They were about 3 hours too late to discover that. The day is not even over yet and problems already happening before I can even get through the payroll process. ::sigh::

So I ended up having to work late and having so many interruptions also made me make a mistake – as when I went back to pick up what I was working on – I ended up working on the wrong person as I thought I was in one person’s screen but was in another’s. And that I had to get help to fix, as I noticed it further down the payroll, but I learned something and was able to fix it. So it was kinda good that happened in the long run, but I really need to have a day to just do payroll and not be involved in so much at once – as every time there’s things going on that take me back and forth – it’s a spelling for disaster. It requires focus and not a lot of jumping around. lol Anyway, it is what it is and I finally got to leave for the day although late.

I have a dental appointment this morning. The only one I could get several months in the making was at 8:45 a.m. and I think that was a cancellation. It’s been 10 or 12 months since I’ve had a teeth cleaning I think. As my six month one was cancelled due to COVID. I also had rescheduled a time or two b/c of work before that. But I was not cancelling this one. Come hell or high water, I was getting my teeth done today and so you can imagine my nerves at 5 p.m. yesterday when I was still working on payroll and not sure I’d get through before the day was done. I thought if I’m here til midnight so be it. So I got everything done to get the payroll closed but had to stay late, and called Mom on the way home and she said something about getting gas and I said “oh….gas….let me stop and get some” as I was just coming up on the gas station. So I had to call her back. Life is hard. Just no time to even think I guess. lol

In the evening, my left leg – right above my ankle began hurting. It feels bruised. I think it’s the way I’m sitting and leaning on it. I’ve been having trouble with my muscles this week. I tried to do a shake a couple days ago and it turned my stomach for some reason. The shakes have been my savior with my muscles. But I’m out of the ones I like the best. I’m trying to make myself drink the other flavors before I order more, and that is not working out. I need to check the expiration dates on them. You know it’s kinda like those jeans that don’t fit the best. They are ok but you have your favorites? It’s like that with shakes. I’m trying to be frugal and not order my favorites again til the less favored ones are gone. The result? I just don’t drink them at all. lol Oh well. I’m going to have to toss them out and order the favorites I guess so I can keep these muscles going. My guess is that we’ve had less protein since we have been back from vacation. I’ve eaten a LOT less of course. That hamburger helped. We had chili the last two nights. And I really haven’t been that hungry.

My ankle still hurting a bit this morning and I think I just put too much weight against it while leaning it against a hard surface – like my chair or desk or something. I really don’t know but I’m always wrapping my feet around something – my chair, my other foot, lol. So I think I’ve bruised it. It feels more like a bruise than a muscle pull.

So that said, I’m going to go fix eggs this morning as I have a little more time.

We need to go to the store for quite a few things, but decided to go this weekend. It’ll be a wet one though with the hurricane remnants coming over us. Maybe we should go tomorrow night instead before the rain. We did have some plans Saturday but I may blow that off. I told George I didn’t want to go out in the heavy rain.

Haven’t had much desk time the last couple of nights. Mainly have had to do Amazon orders to replenish my vitamin supplements supplies and redoing my order on that system I do. Had to get the darks done so George had shirts for work. Meant to do my nails but ran out of time.

Why are we so busy? We ought not be this busy. It’s Wednesday and I’m worn out already and need some down time in a hurry to just take care of me, of us, and get the critical things done. I think we are still off routine a bit from vacation. I had to get stuff done – laundry and grocery and such during the week when we got back. So on the weekend I had a lot of free time. Well now it’s the work week and it’s all ready to be done again, lol. So I need to get back on the schedule to where we get things done on the weekend and not during the work week.

Better go get some protein in me. Probably need to reboot laundry as well. Ya’ll take care.

Random Pics from Texas

I miss my daughter’s dog Findlay, aka “Little Stink” as called by George, or “Fin Fin” by any of us. She is a sweety pie. She would often lay in my lap while I worked a crossword.

I miss the ranch window. Love to sip coffee and look out at the morning glow and the evening sunset.

We cooked a lot for “the kids” as we call them, although they are very grown up. And each evening I would change up the centerpiece – just from whatever Kate had setting around for decor. I hope it didn’t bother her. I tried to make it different night to night.

See the dog ears on the napkins (paper towels)? LOL

Findlay loves to sit and run along the back of the couch. It’s hilarious. She looks for her Daddy to come home.

My daughter is an excellent decorator. I always enjoy her flair.

George with Findlay

I could take pics of the dogs all day long. She was good to pose for me, and has calmed a bit from our previous trips. Before it was hard to get her to be still for long.

Sweet Roger

There’s something about these mesquite trees that I love.

Miss Maisy wanting some attention.

George at the helm cooking up some din din!

A cook book I looked through at Kate’s and I put some lemons in a bowl. Katy enjoys her fruit. There was some liquor George had bought in the background. I thought it made it pretty picture.

We did try to do this, Cook with Love! I love the spoon holder message.

George began making pizza dough one day. I was practicing using the camera.

Mr. Roger, doing what he does best! Except for scaring the deer off. He loves to scare the deer away.

What a great message to see every morning before taking your shower. I love this. And I also loved doing laundry there. If anyone put a load in, I folded it. I washed a couple of loads of towels and also a couple loads of our darks so we could rewear our “comfy jeans”.

Every laundry center needs one of these. I find change nearly every time but I don’t have one of these. This is cute. I guess it pays to do the laundry.

And that pretty much sums up the “extra pics”. I still have some Graham pics to share and also some Gender Reveal extra pics as well as some sunset pics.

So, for the daily update:

Work has been extremely busy. I think I’m sortof caught up from vacation now. But I’m not really caught up from last week yet, lol. I didn’t take a lunch yesterday but just ate what I could find around my desk. I was pretty full anyway from all we’ve eaten lately.

I came home and fixed chili yesterday, after talking with my sweet friend, Lisa. Have been in the mood for some chili for about a month.

Also saw this wallet on Amazon.

I’ve been wanting a thinner one. This one keeps people from getting your card information. Apparently people can get your number just by standing around you. But this has that protection so your information cannot be read by those special devices. This above is an example of an ad that pops up. I didn’t order it yet. I will wait. I need to check it out further and make sure it’s what I want. I like mine now but it’s just soooooo big. I need something a little flatter. And I would like to have one of these RFID wallets.

Amazon has perfected their ads to the point that they are showing me ads of what I’m thinking about. How scary is that? I’ve not written, mentioned, or spoken of a new wallet. But thought about it a few days ago. And there it is. However, I did speak with someone over the phone that had their account broken into so perhaps it recalled that conversation. But there have been numerous times lately when I thought about ordering something and the ad shows it within just a few hours. Like some blue casual sandals – bam – there they were. lol. They may have already discovered a way to know what we are thinking? lol lol lol I’m not worried about it. I like having ads that suite me rather than ones that don’t. Less having to hunt for things. Whooop, there it is! That item I needed. lol

Well I better go get ready and go. It’s payroll day. Once payroll is done, I sigh a big fat relief sigh and just process everything from the payroll run the rest of the week such as pay taxes, upload and pay 401k, pay the garnishments and then get ready for the next payroll week. I had a lot of garnishments come at once last week – I want to say like 15 or 18 – so I had a busy day yesterday of taking care of those and getting them set up on top of everything else going on.

Anyway, I hope everyone is safe from the Hurricanes. I know that our area is awfully muggy today. I think the southern mugginess from these storms is being sent our way. I had to take out Roger last night at 11:30 and it was horribly muggy then.

OK off for more coffee and figure out what to wear today. I’m not sure I’m happy with the line up I picked. I need some more pants! I’ve focused on the tops way more than the pants but I’ve got to order some I guess and then see if they fit.

Ya’ll have a great day out there. Is the hurricane going to impact you any?

Seeing Family and Fun Times on the Square in Columbia, TN

George fixed a fine meal Saturday night of pork chops, sauteed spinach with pine nuts and potatoes and corn. It was all so good.

The spinach is one of my favorites that we took away from a show called “Spain….On the Road Again” that had Gweneth Paltrow in it. It calls for the spinach to be sauteed in a really good EVOO, Extra Virgin Olive Oil, pine nuts added and a bit of fresh lemon juice which along with the olive oil and pine nuts make a great taste! And the pork chops were pretty tasty too.

Saturday afternoon/evening I was able to get started on the next video. Being that I cleaned most of the week and finished it Saturday morning put me in an excellent position to play with that this weekend. So great progress made. I do need to film a little segment for the “value added” portion, sometime this week or weekend. But I should be able to finish the video by the end of the weekend.

Around 11:00 yesterday I quit working on the video as we were meeting my Aunt and Uncle and Mom in Columbia. George had to stop at a gun store on the way to get a gun repaired. So we gave ourselves an extra hour an a half but it did not take very long at all. So we headed on down to Columbia and hung out on the square until our reservation time after driving around a bit.

George was excited to see places he never sees. We are always sitting on the sofa on our devices, all of us, including Mom, so while he has been to Columbia numerous times, he’s never been shopping there. He saw a gun store, and outdoor store, a baby shop, and he said “we are going to have to come back here and shop some day”. So, it’s really nice to have a hubby that likes to cook and shop! 😀

We drove around one of the local parks near the shop. I remember this area mainly as a ball park in my days growing up. And I believe the ball parks are still around that area.

Here is the court house taken through the car window. I have a video shot of it but will save that for the 3rd video or so coming down the pike. (I actually have enough footage to be several videos out now with all the Texas trip and now this outing). I kinda like that. And hope to get in a regular rhythm soon but I have to stop and figure out a few things about storage and back ups and my security system is about to be outdated with the new updates coming to Mac – so will have a brief interruption to get all that figured out. But back to Columbia…..

I guess I failed to say that this is my hometown of Columbia, TN. I grew up here. It is a quaint little town for the most part. The square area was not really where any of us hung out though back then. It was mainly open Monday through Saturday and you went only if you had business there. It is much the same today but there are more restaurants and even tap rooms and breweries and ice cream shops all about the area now. Back then beer was only drank at places everyone called “honky tonks” and quite frankly it was looked down upon. Now the breweries are like coffee shops all across America and a place for gathering like coffee, not a night club.

Excuse me for saying it but isn’t “honky tonk” considered a racial term now? I mean if we choose to be politically correct? lol. I guess I can say that word as there is a restaurant in Nashville actually called that in name. George says that the term “honky tonk” collectively is not as it’s meaning is a beer joint, lol. I beg to differ. Because “honky” is what a black person has called a white person for years, among other names. And if we were to tack on certain titles to the word “tonk” it would not fly. So I think I will take offense then to the “honky tonk” term. I am just making a point. I really don’t care who calls what or what calls who. But anyway all that to say that it was quite different back then.

While I’m on the subject of race here and speaking of past history. And in doing some research on line, I verified that there was a business district that was a black business district on a hill in the offshoot streets from the square. It was known as the “Mink Slide”. Don’t worry, it’s NOT my term, so don’t get mad at me, but apparently an official term that is in the history pages of that area. I was told growing up not to use the term in case it offended someone but in the realm of history since it was actually called that, I will mention that here only.

I’ll continue sharing some pics from the square. Then I need to get ready and head to work!

We went to the Taps on Main while walking around and had a C’Zanne’s while waiting for time for reservations at Puckett’s. Here it is below.

George and Uncle Ken took interest in this cool old car parked on the square. Got a pic of Mom and Aunt Martha here as we walked in to Pucketts.

George may have forgotten how to wear his mask! It was sooooo good to see everyone and to be able to eat out again with everyone.

We were incredibly full but we still had some Hattie Jane’s ice cream after.

What a wonderful day! A wonderful time with family. It was good time to go at 2:30 as we missed lunch and evening crowds. We will have to keep that in mind!

OK I’ve got to get ready and get to work. I’m almost caught up but have a few things I need to do today before the next payroll run. And after work I’m fixing chili. I have been craving it for a while. I crave it in August and also again in October – every year. I’ve not had many cravings this year but I think now it is more of a habit. Anyway it’s spicy so it will have some flavor and taste good!
